Chapter 106: 102. The ...... of the Future Biological Sage In!

Inside the decrepit old house.

With his ever-present toothy grin, Zaire engaged in a brief but amicable conversation with Connors, who had gradually regained his composure.

Eventually, compelled by the circumstances, Connors agreed to accompany Zaire.

Soon after, Zaire, having rinsed off the green blood from his body, put his sunglasses back on.

He led the way with a weary demeanor, while Connors, his biology teacher, still carried an air of hesitation between his brows. Together, they exited the rented house and approached a humble scooter parked outside.

Vroom, vroom—

The struggling sound of the scooter's engine came to life. Seated in sportswear on the rear seat, Connors seemed to suddenly recall something. He raised his lone hand and tapped Zaire on his broad shoulder, cautiously asking:

"Uh… why do you seem so familiar? Have we met somewhere before?"

Hearing the question, Zaire chuckled without looking back:

"Connors, I already told you—you're my teacher… Don't you remember the student who failed the biology exam last semester?"

No sooner had the words left his mouth than Connors' eyes widened in shock. He leaned closer, whispering in disbelief:

"Zaire? Is it really you?"

Blinking rapidly, Connors took several deep breaths and leaned towards Zaire's ear, his tone growing urgent:

"Zaire, how did you end up like this? Did you undergo human experimentation too? Do you even realize what that means? It's not just irresponsible—it's…"

"You think I became a lizard just to gain some kind of unchecked power?"

"Teacher!" Zaire interrupted coldly, cutting off Connors' lecture. Without turning his head, he rode the scooter through the dilapidated streets, saying casually:

"It's a long story, and this isn't the place for it. We'll talk later."

"Sigh…"

Hearing Zaire's reply, Connors exhaled deeply and fell silent, gradually calming his restless emotions. Oddly enough, Zaire's revelation seemed to inadvertently lower Connors' guard, and even the hesitation in his expression faded.

Twenty minutes later, Zaire, riding his modest scooter, brought Connors away from the bustling crowds, navigating through countless streets before finally arriving at the entrance of an underground passage.

After parking his vehicle, Zaire gestured for Connors to follow him.

"Uh…" Connors hesitated, glancing around the unfamiliar surroundings. Eventually, he chose to proceed.

As the two ventured deeper, scattered construction materials began to appear in the dimly lit tunnel. Breaking the silence, Connors, staring at Zaire's broad back, murmured:

"Zaire, I understand how Tony Stark has inspired countless young people to dream of becoming superheroes… but the workings of the world are far more complicated than heroes fighting monsters."

"Superheroes?"

Zaire stopped abruptly, his lupine green eyes narrowing as he turned to face his earnest teacher. Grinning to reveal sharp fangs, he said:

"Don't be naive, teacher… We're not superheroes. Even in the childish stories meant to entertain kids, we'd be the villains."

Suddenly, Zaire's sharp ears twitched, as if sensing something. His gaze shifted deeper into the passage, and he smiled.

"Well, what a coincidence… Teacher, meet your future ally."

As he spoke, a towering metallic skeleton, standing over two meters tall and carrying a pile of construction materials, emerged from the shadows of the dim corridor. Its blue, glowing eyes flickered, and its sleek, metallic body reflected a faint shine.

"W-What is that…"

Connors' eyes widened in disbelief as he stared at the robotic figure, his voice momentarily failing him.

"Heh." Zaire's grin widened. He gestured toward the towering robot and introduced it with pride:

"Meet David, a true mechanical lifeform. He's my construction expert and the caretaker of this base."

With a loud thud, David dropped the pile of materials and approached, bowing slightly toward Zaire.

"Master."

Then, turning to the stunned Connors, it raised its metallic hand in greeting:

"Hello, unfamiliar human."

Connors, snapping out of his shock, stammered:

"H-Hello…"

Zaire stepped forward, placing a clawed hand firmly on Connors' shoulder.

"Let's go, teacher… You'll grow to like this place."

After nodding to David, Zaire led a dazed Connors deeper into the underground passage.

Soon, they entered a brightly lit hall within the base. Connors, just realizing the existence of a vast underground complex beneath Manhattan, was once again overwhelmed by shock.

Slumping into a chair by a metal table, Connors sat in silence for a long time before finally speaking, his tone bitter:

"I thought turning into a humanoid lizard due to a failed experiment was shocking enough… but Zaire, you've far surpassed me."

"Teacher, is that really something to celebrate?" Zaire asked warmly, handing Connors a glass of "Gleise."

Without hesitation, Connors downed the drink in one gulp. The harsh burn of the alcohol cutting through his throat made his face flush red. His bloodshot eyes locked onto Zaire.

"So, I'll never leave this place again, will I?"

Removing his baseball cap to reveal streaks of gray in his hair, Zaire shook his head with a faint smile.

"Teacher… you're completely free here. You'll have the best equipment and can continue your experiments. As long as you help with occasional research and avoid jeopardizing the team or humanity, you're free to leave and live your life however you see fit."

"That's it?" Connors asked skeptically, brushing golden hair from his brow.

"That's it. But teacher, let's be clear—my combat capabilities and David's presence, you've already witnessed. If you think becoming a humanoid lizard gives you the freedom to act recklessly, I'd welcome you to try."

Zaire's sharp fangs glinted as his grin grew colder. Faced with the veiled threat, Connors chuckled bitterly and shook his head.

"I just want to become human again. If possible, I dream of perfecting my regeneration serum. But after losing everything—my job, my reputation—I have no means to restart my research…"

"So, if what you're offering is true, I'm willing to join your team—not out of fear, but because of a scientist's ideals and a crippled man's desperate obsession."

His voice trailing off, Connors stood, his expression firm as he extended his lone hand to Zaire.

Clap!

Zaire's clawed hand gripped his tightly.

"Teacher, here's to a fruitful partnership."

"Here's to it."
