Fury was genuinely terrified now, especially when he saw the face that looked much more mature than five years ago. He suddenly felt a chill run down his spine.
Five years ago, the guy who had been threatened and assessed as extremely dangerous by the Kree, the guy who had taken forever to recover from injuries and nearly burned the entire aircraft carrier with a fire!
And this guy's teacher? Well, he was truly something else. Standing on Earth, he fiddled with things for a few moments, and suddenly, an alien fleet set off fireworks in space.
Is this even human?
You're human? So what does that make us?
Although this magician named Noah had followed his teacher and left with his friends, Fury, Coulson, and the pilot couldn't even speak about their current situation!
Even the Cosmic Cube Noah had given them, which was glowing with an azure light, made Fury too nervous to even think about coveting it.
Though he knew it originally belonged to SHIELD, he didn't know when it had been stolen. But now it seemed to belong to the magicians.
Yes, Fury still remembered Noah saying the Cube was just temporarily stored with him. So even though they constantly researched it and knew how dangerous it was, they dared not take any action.
It was too dangerous. Fury didn't want to disappear mysteriously.
In the past five years, Fury's position within SHIELD had steadily risen, and now he was nearly sitting on the director's chair. But no matter how much his position had changed, he couldn't forget that there were people inside Earth who were far from ordinary.
Today, Fury received a piece of intelligence: a mutant, whose identity was confirmed by SHIELD, would soon present at Congress.
To be honest, this was not a big deal to Fury anymore.
The mutant issue was troublesome. The real problem lay in the higher-ups' decisions.
Some believed mutants were a threat to humanity's existence and needed to be controlled. Even more extreme factions had started capturing mutants for experiments.
Another group disagreed and believed mutants were part of humanity, even the next stage of human evolution. However, they were divided into two factions. One side thought mutants should remain hidden and not publicly known, while the other side felt they should be fully integrated into society, with the same rights as ordinary people.
Fury had a headache over these trivial matters, but those above him were preoccupied with them.
As for a regular mutant speaking at Congress? He could go ahead and speak—what did it have to do with Fury?
At most, he would just deploy more agents to ensure the speech went smoothly.
But the intel he received wasn't only about the mutant issue. According to the reports, the leaders of the two major mutant factions—Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr—would also be present!
This news made Fury uneasy. After informing his superiors, he quickly assembled a team to investigate.
The woman, Jean Grey, gave an excellent speech, but the question she asked made Fury shake his head.
To be honest, once you've revealed your abilities, why do you naively think that nobody will take notice of them and you'll be treated like an ordinary person?
Driving is dangerous, and countless traffic accidents happen each year, which is why we have driver's licenses. But how do you know mutants won't accidentally cause harm? They may not intend it, but it's still dangerous.
Fury shook his head. He didn't want to watch the rest of the defense.
Jean Grey, the mutant lady, should have been a scientist or biologist, not arguing with a congressman.
Just then, a voice suddenly came from behind him.
The voice sounded familiar, so Fury didn't react immediately. But when something felt off, he turned around, and his eyes widened in shock.
"Shit! Damn it! How did you die?!"
"I say, how much do you hate me? If my memory serves me right, I seem to have saved you and your men, right?"
Noah, looking at a clearly shaken Fury, was confused. What's wrong with him?
At the same time, the little orange cat, Gugu, who had been hidden by Evan to avoid security checks, jumped out. She lazily looked at Fury, her face full of panic.
"Oh, God! My little cutie, you're here too?"
Seeing the cat, Fury calmed down slightly but quickly remembered his eyes had once been blinded by this little creature. He didn't dare pick up Gugu like he did five years ago.
"Well, long time no see, Noah. Damn, I always wondered what I'd do if I saw you again, but now it seems like there's nothing I can do."
"What? You still want to deal with me?"
"Sorry, professional habit. Although I know I can't do anything, I still can't help but think about it. By the way, why are you here this time? And where's your companion from last time?"
"I'm bringing students. As for why I'm here, it's probably for the same reason as you."
Noah leaned against the fence, just like Fury had before. Meanwhile, Phoenix, the lady in red, was nearly speechless in front of a congressman.
Noah found it quite amusing, but he couldn't help wondering if this Phoenix lady and the old bald man had used their abilities to control a senior official.
Would their lives be much better then?
"Bringing students?" Fury asked.
Noah nodded. "Yes, bringing students. But I think this whole situation is quite naive."
"I wonder what you special people think about mutants?" Fury asked.
"I don't have any opinions. Just like you, the magical ministries around the world are arguing about whether mutants belong to the regular world or the magical world."
Noah continued, "They had originally decided to leave mutants in a gray area between the two worlds, but now the issue's resurfacing."
"So, you came here to observe the mutants?" Fury asked.
"Pretty much. But neither the Ministry of Magic nor we know exactly what they think, so I'm just here to see," Noah replied.
Noah didn't need to think much about what mutants would choose. If they agreed, he'd take them to Dumbledore to learn the ways of the magical world. If they didn't agree, Noah would simply leave them alone. He wasn't their nanny or savior.
The reason Noah had stirred up trouble at Hogwarts was that he had a future connection to the British magical world. But mutants had nothing to do with him. Helping them was simply out of sympathy, and if he didn't, that was his right.
"Seems like you people from the mysterious world are also troubled by mutants," Fury chuckled, looking like he hadn't changed since five years ago.
"It's fine. But why are you here? A mutant giving a speech in Congress can't possibly draw your attention."
Fury grinned. "Because their leader showed up. The so-called 'good principal' had to be here. Then there's the one who's even worse. If it weren't for his ability to control metal, I'd have arrested him by now."
Fury's face turned bitter. He looked truly depressed.
Noah thought for a moment and understood immediately. He remembered now: Professor Charles had come to give a speech, but also Gandalf the Dual Wielder and Erik Magneto had come.
Noah had to admire Fury's intelligence network. It was top-notch.
"Are you going to meet them?" Fury asked.
"Meet? Of course, but not right now. Are you interested in watching the show with me, like five years ago? To be honest, it's rare for me to get out."
Noah thought for a while, then shook his head.
It was true they had to meet eventually, but he wasn't in a rush. He was curious to see what tricks these mutants could play now. In the future, Noah thought it might be better to avoid them. But for now, he was willing to watch.
When Fury heard Noah's words, he shuddered, clearly remembering something unpleasant. But soon, he recovered and hesitated before asking, "Are you sure this isn't about aliens again?"
"Aliens?" Noah blinked. "What aliens? Why are you asking that?"
"The last time you showed up, it was because of aliens. Tell me, you're not here because of aliens, are you?"
"No, no," Noah laughed. "Just mutants this time."
"Do you swear?" Fury asked, looking skeptical.
"Okay, okay, I swear. Damn, why are you so paranoid?"
