Marvel’s Spider-Man: Across the Multiverse

Chapter 52: Chapter 51: Ant-Man and The Wasp

If two words could describe Peter's feelings at this moment, they would be: utterly confused.

Just a second ago, he was planning how to build a good relationship with Ant-Man (both generations) to gain access to the quantum tunnel, hoping to enter the quantum realm and find a way to reach Gwen-Spider's world.

But in the very next second, the massive quantum tunnel... exploded?

Damn!

Peter felt a pang of frustration, though he had no intention of voicing it aloud.

He turned to look at the "culprits."

In truth, he didn't even need to look. He already knew that the ones emerging from the tunnel at this moment had to be Ant-Man's in-laws—Dr. Hank Pym and his wife, Janet van Dyne.

Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp, had shrunk to the subatomic level thirty years ago to stop a missile, only to become trapped in the quantum realm as a result.

The entire plot of Ant-Man and the Wasp revolved around Scott briefly entering the quantum realm, allowing Janet to use his body to contact Hank and Hope. Together, they defeated the villain and rescued Janet, the wife (mother, mother-in-law) they had long thought lost.

And now, it seemed they had reached the end of that story.

Dr. Pym had ventured into the quantum realm, found Janet, and was now bringing her back in his quantum vehicle.

Hiss—

The car door opened, and an elderly woman with silver hair stepped out, followed by an equally silver-haired elderly man.

The woman was none other than Janet van Dyne, the original Wasp. Despite her gray hair, her face looked remarkably youthful—perhaps the quantum realm had some anti-aging benefits?

In contrast, Dr. Pym appeared much older and more worn.

When Hope saw the two of them, she was immediately overcome with emotion.

She trembled as she stepped forward, her lips quivering, but no words came out.

Janet was just as emotional.

Mother and daughter embraced tightly, their feelings pouring out without the need for words.

Meanwhile, Peter walked toward Dr. Pym.

Dr. Pym noticed Peter's costume and looked at him warily. "Avenger?"

It was clear he mistook Peter for Tom Holland's Spider-Man.

Though their suits were different, in this world, the only one wearing a Spider-Man suit was the MCU Spider-Man.

Due to some historical grievances, Dr. Pym harbored deep resentment toward Tony Stark and, by extension, wasn't fond of Spider-Man, who had been mentored by Stark.

Peter reached up, removed his mask, and said, "Hello, Dr. Pym. It's an honor to meet you. My name is Peter, and I'm Spider-Man from another world. Not long ago, I almost got trapped in the quantum realm, but I sensed the quantum tunnel you opened and was able to escape. Thank you."

Dr. Pym looked at Peter's face—a distinctly East Asian one—and his wariness eased. He shook Peter's hand and said, "Hello, I'm Hank Pym. I'm glad I could help."

"You said you were almost trapped in the quantum realm?" A voice came from the side, drawing Peter's attention—it was the original Wasp, Janet van Dyne, who had been listening intently.

"Yes," Peter nodded.

Janet's expression instantly turned serious.

She let go of her daughter's hand and walked over to Peter, scrutinizing him carefully.

After a long moment, she said, "You're lying!"

Peter was taken aback. "Why would you say that?"

Janet replied, "I admit there's a trace of quantum energy on you, but I've never seen you in the quantum realm!"

Peter shrugged. "Well, I never saw you in there either. That doesn't necessarily mean anything, does it?"

"No..." Janet seemed to be holding something back, abruptly stopping mid-sentence.

She took a deep breath before continuing, "Fine, let me ask you this: before you came out, what did you see around you?"

"What did I see?" Peter thought for a moment. It didn't seem like anything worth hiding, so he answered truthfully, "Raging particle streams and several quantum gateways leading to different worlds."

Janet frowned slightly, but then let out a sigh of relief, as though a heavy burden had been lifted.

She looked at Peter apologetically. "I'm sorry for overreacting."

Peter shook his head, indicating that it was no big deal. However, his mind was racing through his memories. There hadn't been any mention in the films of what Janet experienced in the quantum realm.

But one thing was certain—her strong reaction was definitely tied to something she went through there.

And whatever it was, it probably wasn't pleasant.

Peter tried to recall the space he had passed through before coming to this world, but it hadn't seemed like a place where much could happen.

Could it be that there were multiple quantum realms?

Wait...

The quantum realm... the quantum realm...

Suddenly, a term surfaced in Peter's mind: Quantumania!

To be precise, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania!

That was the third installment in the Ant-Man series.

But by the time Peter had crossed over into this world, the only films released had been up to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

He had stumbled across the title online once, but he hadn't seen a trailer or any real details about it.

At the time, Peter hadn't paid much attention to the name. But now, combining Janet's reaction with the "quantum" theme in the movie title, he had a bold hypothesis.

Could it be that Quantumania was about Ant-Man and the others returning to the quantum realm to confront whatever it was that Janet feared?

Knowing Marvel's storytelling style, Peter felt that this theory was highly plausible.

However, he decided not to dwell on it for now.

He wasn't close to the original Wasp, nor had he known Ant-Man and his group for more than a few minutes.

If they didn't want him to know, why bother asking?

Besides, there was a more urgent crisis to deal with.

Avengers: Infinity War!

Thanos!

On the other side, Dr. Hank Pym, Ant-Man, and the second Wasp all noticed the original Wasp's unnatural behavior.

They exchanged glances, their eyes filled with concern.

These were all highly intelligent individuals, and it was clear to them that Janet van Dyne's 30 years in the quantum realm were likely far more complicated than just being "trapped."

Even Dr. Pym, who had conducted in-depth research on the quantum realm, couldn't figure out what might exist in that almost completely uncharted space.

His gaze landed on Peter, who was lost in thought.

He remembered Peter saying that he, too, had been trapped in the quantum realm. Could this young, Eastern Spider-Man know something?

Thud! Thud! Thud!

At that moment, a figure burst through the glass door, panting heavily as they ran inside.

"Big, big, big trouble! The police are here! A whole swarm of them!"

"I've got to go," Ant-Man said immediately.

After all, he was still serving house arrest. If he got caught now, it would be over for him.

At best, he'd face legal trouble; at worst, he'd end up back in prison.

And he definitely didn't want to return to that underwater prison!
