MHA: Reborn with Magneto's powers

Chapter 10: Chapter 9: First day in U.A.

The dust settled from the U.A. Entrance Exam, but the impact still lingered. Ryoma stood amidst the wreckage, mentally noting the abilities of the other examinees. Izuku Midoriya, despite his apparent lack of prior physical conditioning, had unleashed an overwhelming punch that obliterated the Zero-Pointer at the cost of his own body.

Ochako Uraraka, the girl who had been falling, demonstrated some form of gravity manipulation—at least, that was Ryoma's assumption based on how she floated before being pulled down by natural forces.

Instinctively, Ryoma had extended his magnetic field, latching onto the surrounding metal debris to form a makeshift safety net, slowing both of them down. Izuku, despite Recovery Girl's immediate treatment, remained unconscious for the time being.

Watching Recovery Girl work intrigued Ryoma. Her Quirk—an ability that accelerated healing—was far beyond normal medicine. He stored the observation in his mind for future reference, already contemplating its implications for combat endurance and medical applications.

One Week Later, both Ryoma and Momo received their acceptance letters, confirming their success. When he saw the results: he placed first overall.

Meanwhile, within U.A.'s staff room, the teachers reviewed the official rankings.

Ectoplasm noted Ryoma's combat efficiency, impressed by how he used his Quirk not just for raw power but for tactical advantages.

Cementoss praised his environmental awareness, as Ryoma had manipulated metal debris strategically rather than simply relying on brute force.

Midnight commented that while he demonstrated exceptional control, it was uncertain how he would perform against real life villains.

Ultimately, while Ryoma's first-place ranking was indisputable, many teachers agreed that he had been extremely fortunate—the test conditions were perfectly ideal for his unique Quirk.

On the first day of school, Ryoma arrived early—not out of excitement, but out of habit. He wanted to analyze the school's infrastructure, noting how the facility was built to accommodate various Quirks. Some buildings had reinforced materials, suggesting preparation for destructive abilities.

He walked through the hallways, mapping out key locations before eventually making his way to Class 1-A.

When he entered, the classroom was mostly quiet. Soon after, Momo arrived.

"Good morning, Ryoma," she greeted.

"Waddup," he replied simply.

Some students glanced their way, surprised they already knew each other. Murmurs spread, but neither of them paid much attention.

Then, the more chaotic arrivals began.

Bakugo entered and immediately propped his legs onto a desk, oozing arrogance.

Iida Tenya scolded him, prompting an explosive argument:

"Don't out your leg on the desk! That's disrespectful towards your classmates!"

"NO, AS A MATTER OF FACT, I DON'T THINK SO. WHICH MIDDLE SCHOOL ARE YOU FROM ANYWAY, YOU TWO-BIT EXTRA!?", the angry explosion kid shouted back.

'2-bit extra?', Ryoma thought.

"I'm from Soumei Junior High School, the name's Iida Tenya.", Iida introduced him.

That kid Iida made an impression for Ryoma as he remembered about the entrance exam: it was him who asked the question about the hand-out's information as well as scolding the curly haired boy who'd been noisy in the hall.

"Soumei? Well aren't you an alite. Seems I've got a reason to fucking end you afterall!", Bakugo barked back with a taunt.

Ryoma let out a barely audible sigh, watching the so-called "explosion kid" act like he owned the room.

Momo, sitting next to him, seemed just as unimpressed. Her polite demeanor didn't falter, but Ryoma could tell she was internally questioning the same thing he was.

Ryoma leaned in closer to Momo, keeping his voice low but laced with sharp sarcasm. "Seriously, did Yuuei accidentally enroll a rabid chihuahua? I thought this was a top-tier hero school, not a daycare for emotionally stunted toddlers with Down syndrome."

Momo coughed, trying (and failing) to suppress a laugh.

Ryoma wasn't done. His gaze stayed locked on Bakugo, watching the blonde snarl at Iida like some feral animal marking his territory.

" Christ... this brat acts like he's the main character of a bad-written manga. If we threw a rolled-up newspaper at him, do you think he'd chase after it?"

Momo elbowed him lightly, scolding but clearly entertained. "Ryoma, be nice."

He shrugged. "I'd consider it if he didn't look like his entire personality was built around screaming at people like a patient from mental asylum ."

Momo shook her head, exhaling through her nose as she composed herself. "Well… perhaps he has hidden qualities? U.A. must have seen potential in him."

Ryoma scoffed. "Yeah, the potential to make every group project a living nightmare. I swear, if we ever get assigned teams with him, I'm petitioning for immediate transfer."

At that moment, Bakugo turned his attention to the next person entering—Midoriya.

The second their eyes met, Bakugo's face contorted into something truly hateful.

Ryoma tilted his head, intrigued. "Wait…Momo, it's that kid I told you about. The broccoli hair who one-punched the 0 point robot in my exam."

Momo raised an eyebrow, following Ryoma's gaze. "Really?"

"Yeah," Ryoma confirmed, watching Bakugo's face twist with unfiltered disdain. "And judging by that expression, I'd say he and "noisy chihuahua" have… history. Welp, we're about to have some entertainment in class to watch."

Momo glanced between them, noticing the way Midoriya hesitated before stepping inside. "It does seem personal. Do you think they were friends….wait no, it should be former "bully and victim", I think?"

Tenya Iida stepped forward, extending a hand in an overly formal greeting, introducing himself to Izuku Midoriya.

Midoriya introduced himself back. Tenya gave praises and respects towards Deku's action in the practical exam.

"Ah! It's you! Curly-hair kid!"

Ochako Uraraka entered the classroom with a bright smile, making a beeline for the green-haired boy. As she thanked him enthusiastically for saving her.

Ryoma watched as he recognized her as well.

"If you're gonna be hunting for buddies and do it elsewhere.", Aizawa inside his sleeping bag interrupted the friendly conversation between the two kids.

"This is the department of heroics.", he crawled out of the sleeping bag.

'.....What in the knock-off homeless John Wick is this?', Ryoma thought, looking at the his untidy appearance with unshaved beard and messy long hair.

"Hmm. It took you 8 seconds to quiet down. Life is short kids, you're all lacking common sense. I'm your homeroom teacher, Aizawa Shouta. Pleasure meeting you.", he introduced as he grabbed a P.E. uniform:

"Wear this and shove off to the P.E. grounds."

As the Quirk Apprehension Test progressed, Aizawa instructed Bakugo to throw the pitch ball using his Quirk as an example. With a cocky smirk, Bakugo wound up and unleashed an explosive blast, sending the ball flying.

The number 705.2m displayed on Aizawa scaling device.

"705 meters?! That's unreal!!"

"Awesome! That looks fun!" one student exclaimed.

Aizawa completely snapped them back to reality as he emphasized again this school is not for fun or good times. This is the school to train and produce future pro heroes, and he made sure they didn't forget by giving a warning:

"The student who ranks last in total points will be judged "hopeless" and instantly expelled."

"This is our first day here!! But even if it weren't…that's just too unreasonable!!", Ochako argued.

"Natural disasters, massive accidents, ego-mad villains….All kinds of calamities can happen when we least expect them. Japan's now positively drenched in "unreasonable".

And it's our jobs as heroes to reverse it all and restore "reasons".

If you were counting on a friendly chat at local McDonald's after school, that's too bad. From now on for the next 3 years in Yuuei, all you can expect that your life is one hardship after the next." Aizawa concluded:

This is "Plus Ultra". I expect you to overcome the trials and climb to the top."

As Aizawa finished his speech, the class fell into a tense silence. Some students looked uneasy, while others, like Bakugo, just scoffed.

Ryoma, standing beside Momo, leaned slightly toward her and whispered, "What do you think about his threatening?"

Momo crossed her arms, her expression calm. "It's obviously just a ruse."

Ryoma raised an eyebrow. "You sure? He doesn't sound like he's bluffing."

Momo let out a quiet scoff. "There's no way U.A. would expel students on their very first day. This is a prestigious school—they carefully select their students. Expelling one immediately would be counterproductive."

Ryoma hummed, unconvinced. "Maybe. But I wouldn't be surprised if he's done it before. He really seems like the type."

Momo gave him a knowing look. "It's just psychological pressure to push us to our limits. Nothing more."

Ryoma wasn't entirely convinced, but he decided to let it go. Either way, it didn't matter to him—he had no intention of placing anywhere near last.

Before the pitch ball test began, as the students waited for Aizawa's instructions, two figures approached Ryoma from the side.

"Hey, uh… you're the guy from the entrance exam, right?" Midoriya asked hesitantly, his expression a mix of recognition and nervousness.

Ryoma turned his head slightly, spotting the familiar curly-haired boy alongside the friendly brown-haired girl.

Ochako clapped her hands together. "Yeah! You saved us back there! You controlled the metal to stop us from crashing, right?"

Midoriya nodded quickly. "Thank you for that! We would've been in real trouble without you."

Ryoma shrugged. "No problem."

Midoriya fidgeted slightly. "We, uh… didn't get your name before."

"Ryoma Kurogane."

Ochako beamed. "I'm Uraraka Ochako! Nice to meet."

"Midoriya Izuku, nice to meet you as well." Deku introduced himself with a slight bow.

Ryoma gave them both a nod, his gaze flicking to Ochako. "Yeah yeah all the pleasure. Ochako,I was meaning to ask about your Quirk."

Ochako tilted her head. "Huh?"

"Enough chatting," Aizawa's voice interrupted, sharp and no-nonsense. "Pay attention. This is a test, not a social hour."

Ryoma sighed. "We'll talk later."

Ochako chuckled awkwardly. "Right, test first."

When it was Ryoma's turn for the pitch ball throw, he calmly picked up the ball, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a small steel sphere. Under the confused gazes of his classmates, he pressed the steel tightly against the ball and activated his Quirk. The metal sphere unraveled, reshaping itself like a cocoon around the ball, creating a solid, aerodynamic shell.

With a flick of his fingers, Ryoma sent a pulse of magnetism outward, launching the newly modified projectile at incredible speed. The ball rocketed through the air, vanishing into the distance.

The device in Aizawa's hand beeped as the score registered.

"896 meters"

A few students murmured in shock, while Bakugo scowled at the number.

For the rest of the tests, Ryoma had excelled significantly.

Then came the most shocking moment.

Ochako Uraraka stepped forward for the pitch ball throw. With a cheerful smile, she picked up the ball, tapped it lightly, and tossed it into the sky.

Everyone waited… and waited… but the ball never fell.

The device in Aizawa's hand displayed the final result: INFINITY.

Everyone was in pure disbelief. Ryoma narrowed his eyes, intrigued. 'Yup, I REALLY need to know how her quirk works.'

Ochako walked back to the waiting line, where Ryoma took the opportunity to approach her.

"Yo," he said casually in a low voice, trying not to catch Aizawa's attention.

Ochako turned to him with a bright smile.

"Oh, Kurogane—"

Ryoma waved off her friendly manner to get straight to the point: " What is your Quirk all about? You manipulated gravity, didn't you? In the entrance exam, you made yourself weightless, and just now, you floated that pitch ball indefinitely." Ryoma crossed his arms. "How exactly does it work?"

Ochako blinked, a little surprised at his blunt curiosity, but before she could answer—-

"Next, Midoriya.", Aizawa called out to him.
