MHA: Reborn with Magneto's powers

Chapter 9: Chapter 8

Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, an entire year had gone by.

Both Ryoma and Momo had grown significantly—not just in skill, but in understanding of their Quirks and how to apply them efficiently.

Momo had refined her Creation Quirk to the point where she could generate objects much faster and with greater precision, minimizing wasted material and energy consumption. Her strategic thinking had also improved, allowing her to create tools tailored for specific situations rather than relying on generic weaponry.

Meanwhile, Ryoma had pushed his Magnetism Manipulation even further. Through rigorous training, he could now manipulate electromagnetic fields with more precision, allowing him to not only control ferromagnetic and paramagnetic materials but also subtly influence weak electrical currents.

Despite their progress, a surprising turn of events occurred—one that Momo hadn't expected.

One afternoon, Momo was called into the principal's office. She sat across from the middle school principal, who smiled warmly at her.

"Yaoyorozu-san," the principal began. "I'm pleased to inform you that you have been selected as our school's representative for U.A. High School's Recommendation Entrance Exam."

Momo blinked. She had to process the words twice before she fully understood.

"I'm… the recommended student?" she repeated, eyes widening.

"Yes. Based on our assessments, you have demonstrated exceptional academic performance, strong leadership potential, and a well-rounded set of skills that make you an ideal candidate for U.A.'s recommendation system," the principal explained.

At first, excitement filled her. Being chosen was an incredible honor, something only a handful of students in the entire country received.

But then… a thought crept into her mind.

"Wait," she said, furrowing her brows. "What about Kurogane-san?"

The principal sighed. "Ah, yes. Kurogane-san is indeed a remarkable student, and we strongly considered him as well. However, as you may know, each school is only allowed to recommend one student for the entrance exam.

While Kurogane-san is undoubtedly talented, the final decision was made based on overall assessment criteria. U.A. looks for more than just potential or Quirk's power—our evaluation also includes academic excellence, and demonstrated leadership. Which you had shown both when you became the class representative and with your high results in all subjects."

Momo still felt uneasy. "But…"

The principal raised a hand gently. "Yaoyorozu-san. We are confident in our choice. You've earned this."

Momo thanked the principal and left the office with mixed emotions.

That evening, Momo met Ryoma in their usual study room at the Yaoyorozu estate. As always, he was casually flipping through a physics textbook while absentmindedly manipulating 3 small steel balls with his Quirk to fly around his free hand.

She took a deep breath before speaking.

"Ryoma… I was chosen for the U.A. Recommendation Exam."

The steel balls stopped spinning and dropped on the table with soft clink noises. Ryoma looked at her with his usual calm expression, then gave her a smirk: "Nice! Congrats to you Momo. Have you told your parents about this?"

Momo nodded: "I have, they were very happy and excited for me…..But I'm just confused, why didn't the school choose you? You have way more potential than I do! Your Quirk is incredibly powerful, and you've developed it so much over the past year. You understand science better than anyone our age, and you've helped me improve more than I ever could have alone. I—"

"Woah woah woah!" Ryoma held up his hands, stopping her.

"They picked you instead of me. And that's not a bad thing.

My Quirk might be strong, and yeah, I'm good at science but you are consistent and more well-rounded. They looked at the full picture. And you fit what they were looking for."

"Plus, my GPA is much shittier than yours because of that dumb ass literature subject so that's probably one of the reasons as well.", Ryoma shrugged his shoulders jokingly in acceptance.

Momo lowered her gaze, still feeling conflicted. "...I just feel like I don't deserve it as much as you do."

Ryoma sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. "Momo, do you think I'm upset about this?"

She hesitated, then gave a small nod.

"Well, I'm not," he said simply. "I never expected to get the recommendation. You worked hard, don't diminish that fact."

Momo bit her lip, still unconvinced. "But… that day, when we faced the bullies… You protected both of us and stopped them using your Quirk and quick thinking. You've proven your ability in real life situations . I haven't."

"That wasn't just me. You called the police too, remember? The credits of that case belonged to both of us. Stop downplaying yourself.", Ryoma pointed out.

Momo stared at him for a moment before finally sighing, some of the tension in her shoulders easing. "...You always make things sound so simple."

"Because they indeed are simple," Ryoma replied. "You deserved the recommendation. End of story."

Momo let out a small laugh, part relief, part exasperation: "You're really not upset?"

Ryoma:"Nah, I'm happy for you."

Momo finally smiled. "Alright… I'll stop overthinking it, then."

"Good," Ryoma said, standing up. "Now, let's stop talking about this and get back to work. We both have exams to prepare for."

Over the course of the year, Ryoma didn't just focus on developing his Quirk—he also trained his body rigorously and studied martial arts for self-defense. He understood that while his Magnetism Quirk was powerful, there were potential threats he couldn't ignore.

What if he faced an opponent whose Quirk could counter, suppress, or outright erase his abilities? What if he found himself in an environment without any metallic materials to manipulate? Relying solely on his Quirk was a weakness he refused to have.

To address this, Ryoma committed himself to physical training, improving his strength, endurance, and agility. He incorporated bodyweight exercises, weighted training, bulking up muscles and cardio into his routine to ensure he could hold his own in a fight.

Alongside this, Ryoma registered at an MMA gym operated by a Pro Hero who specialized in martial arts. He knew that learning from experienced fighters would be the fastest and most effective way to build real combat skills.

The gym focused on practical fighting techniques, blending boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Along that, his parents supported him for his training routine as well as they both committed to aid him for his hero career. Mr Kurogane saved money to buy Whey protein for Ryoma and pay his gym's fee while Mrs Kurogane organized and cooked strategic nutrition meals for him.

_________

The day had finally arrived.

Momo had her own separate recommendation exam, while Ryoma walked through the front gates of U.A. High School, surrounded by hundreds of examinees.

As Ryoma sat in the grand examination hall of U.A. High, he casually leaned back in his chair, arms crossed, observing the hundreds of examinees around him. The room buzzed with excitement and nerves, a mix of hopeful future heroes murmuring about the upcoming test.

At the front of the stage, Present Mic, the ever-energetic Pro Hero, stood before a massive screen, explaining the details of the practical exam. His voice boomed through the speakers:

"WELCOME ONE AND ALL TO MY LIVE SHOW! EVERYBODY SAY HEY!!!!!!"

Everyone in fact, was dead silent.

Present Mic continued:

"I'VE GOT SHIVERS DOWN MY SPINE, TOO, LISTENERS! ALL RIGHT, EXAMINEES…"

"I'M GONNA GIVE YOU THE LOW-DOWN ON HOW THIS'LL GO DOWN! ARE YOU READY!?"

'Jesus fucking Christ! This fucking maniac with excess energy!!!', Ryoma cursed mentally as he reached into his pocket and pulled out two steel balls, each about the size of a large marble.

With a subtle flick of his fingers, the spheres deformed, flattening and expanding as if they were made of clay. He magnetically shaped them into smooth, contoured ear covers, ensuring they fit snugly over his ears. The moment they snapped into place, the overwhelming noise dulled significantly. While not perfect soundproofing, it was enough to prevent his eardrums from taking a beating.

"YEAAAAAHHHHHH!!!"

Present Mic said "calmly".

Ryoma glanced around and noticed others flinching at the sheer volume, but he remained composed, arms crossed as he observed the rest of the examinees.

Present Mic continued his energetic speech, completely unaware that one student had just casually crafted improvised ear protection in response to his excessive enthusiasm.

The screen displayed three different types of mechanical opponents that the examiners were going to face: one-pointer, two-pointer, and three-pointer robots, each varying in size and difficulty.

"Excuse me, may I ask a question?!", A bespectacled boy with neatly combed blue hair shot up from his seat—Tenya Iida. He adjusted his glasses with precision, his movements rigid and disciplined.

"On the hand-out,there are clearly four types of villains listed! Such an error would be the height of embarrassment for a top-tier national academy of Yuuei's caliber!

The reason we are seated here today is because we seek guidance on the path to becoming model heroes!"

Iida immediately turned to Midoriya, his eyes narrowing:

"Moreover, what's with you? Yeah, you, curly-haired kid! Can't you sit still for a second... you're distracting! If you think Yuuei is some pleasure jaunt, then leave this place at once!"

Midoriya jolted, turning red as he closed his mouth in apology: "Sorry…."

On stage, Present Mic merely grinned, unfazed by Iida's interruption:

"Okay, oookay. Thanks for the segue, much appreciated, examinee 7111!

The fourth type of villain you'll encounter is worth zero points! Let's call them "Arena Traps"!

Have any of you ever played Super Mario Brothers before!?"

In a nutshell, he explained more clearly that those Fourth Robots were supposed to be stage hazards that everyone needed to avoid and run away from rather than facing them.

"Now let's move to the main event!!

"PLUS ULTRA!!

And may you all gladly suffer the trials to come!!"

________

As the buzzer rang, signaling the start of the practical exam, the room erupted into a frenzy of activity. Present Mic's voice boomed again over the speakers:

"Aaand START!!"

Ryoma, unfazed, immediately activated his Quirk, his eyes flicking toward the metal plates on his shoes and the metal rings on his fingers. With a subtle but precise push of magnetism, he propelled himself into the air, his body soaring upwards effortlessly, much like a rocket taking off and launching ahead other students, much to their surprises.

"What's the matter?! There's no such thing as a countdown in a real battle!! RUN! RUUNN!!", Present Mic shouted.

Others were still stuck in the thick of the crowd, frantically trying to rush toward the nearest bots. Ryoma, however, was already at the first robot, a one-pointer, before most of them even had the chance to move. He raised his hand, directing his magnetic power at the bot, and with a sudden yank, ripped out its core, deactivating it in an instant. A single swipe and it was down.

It was a walk in the park for him. The next bot was a two-pointer, and Ryoma wasted no time. Using his Quirk, he zoomed toward it, dodging obstacles with ease. With a flick of his wrist, he disintegrated the robot's legs, sending it crashing to the ground before he wiped out the rest of its body in mere seconds.

By the time other students started to take down their first robots, Ryoma had already destroyed five, each falling one after another with minimal effort. He wasn't just fast—he was efficient. His quirk allowed him to dismantle each bot with surgical precision, eliminating every single point-worthy target before anyone else could even get close.

The other examinees could only watch in disbelief as Ryoma swept the field. Whispers of frustration spread through the crowd, and the tension in the air grew thick with resentment.

"How the hell is he doing that so fast?" one student muttered.

"This is bullshit! He's just taking everything!" another grumbled, fists clenched in anger.

They could barely keep up as Ryoma hovered from bot to bot, his magnetic abilities turning the battlefield into his personal playground. His speed and overwhelming control made it impossible for anyone to compete with him. He'd taken out every bot he'd encountered in a matter of seconds, and the others were left scrambling to catch up.

In addition, non of the robots could fly, so Ryoma was simply chilling in the air without worrying about any dangers.

"How is this fair?" someone shouted, barely keeping their frustration contained.

"Yeah, that guy's got some unfair quirk!" another voice added, echoing the sentiment.

Ryoma thought to himself, uncaring about the growing protests around him. "This test is just stupidly biased for combat Quirks. And it is even more ridiculous when they use tin cans to test someone like me. Oh welp, not that I'm complaining about it."

After 9 minutes, Ryoma swiftly accumulated 139 villain points. With only one minute remaining, the colossal 0-point robots were released. Ryoma considered targeting these formidable machines to further test his Quirk, as they weren't worth any points, and the exam hadn't specified that destroying them was against the rules.

However, his attention was diverted when he noticed a girl trapped under debris, struggling to free herself. It was Ochako.

Ryoma hesitated, torn between the opportunity to test his abilities on the giant robot and the immediate need to assist Ochako. Prioritizing her safety, he decided to use his Quirk to rescue her.

But before he could comprehend the situation, Midoriya lunged at the giant robot and, with an incredible display of strength, punched it straight in the face.

"SMAAASH!!"

Ryoma's eyes widened as the massive robot crumpled under the blow, falling to the ground as if it were nothing more than a broken toy.

"What in the actual fuck?–", Ryoma blurted out loud in disbelief.
