Chapter 13: Chapter 11: Battle Training
Ryoma felt good with his costume, it didn't end up too bad at all. He looked exactly like the comic character Magneto from his past life's pop culture.
And he was impressed with how quickly the company made this suit and delivered. Especially the iconic helmet, it fit his head and didn't look that goofy as he imagined.
He thought as he observed himself in the changing room's mirror before heading to the ground.
_________
As the students of Class 1-A gathered in the training grounds, Ryoma Kurogane stood among them.
He was shocked.
Baffled.
Perplexed.
Confused.
And above all, insulted.
'What in the discount Kidz Pop...? Who the fuck designed you kids' costumes??!!! 4 year-olds or registered sexual predators?', Ryoma thought as he looked at them.
'Did this Todoroki guy really just freeze half his body and call it a costume? What's his hero name—'Hypothermia'?'
'That "explosion chihuahua"(Bakugo) strapped two giant metal grenades into his arms….I give it five years before that motherfucker turns into a double-arm amputee. Then he'd really be 'blasting off' straight to the nearest prosthetics store.'
'Midoriya….so he's trying to confuse the villains or attracting furries with the bunny ears?'
'...The invisible girl is literally fucking NAKED!', Ryoma baffled but then he thought again…she's invisible…..Fair enough.
'The red haired kid with hardening quirk is wearing a dog mouth cover piece on his mouth and shirtless...just one step away from becoming an actor in a BDSM porn clip.'
Ryoma's mouth opened. Closed. Opened again. And closed.
He wanted to scream those words out loud, but he refrained himself.
'Well, at least there are some people with certain practicality and protection…', Ryoma looked at Tenya Ida in full armor.
'What about Momo—' Ryoma switched his gaze to her and…..he was speechless.
His face looked like he had witnessed a live murder case or natural disaster.
All Might explained about the Indoor anti-personnel battle training to the class and paired the team partners via drawing lots.
Ryoma was paired with Momo.
Momo gave a thumbs up with him and he nodded, still in embarrassment because of her costume.
The first two teams were between Team A(Midoriya,Ochako) and Team D(Bakugo, Ida).
All Might gave some instructions to them in the building where the training would begin before leading the rest of the class to the monitor room to observe the fight.
"Momo…", Ryoma's face expressed the highest amount of shock he had ever done in his life, looking at Momo's "costume".
"What's the matter Ryo—Hey!", Ryoma controlled a metal plate of his to grab Momo's shoulder to pull her close to him for a personal whispering conversation.
"By Jesus' corpse on the cross, what the bloody hell are you wearing?!! Do you honestly have no shame, woman?!!", Ryoma screamed quietly.
Momo blinked, slightly taken aback by Ryoma's unusually animated reaction. "What? What's wrong with my costume?"
Ryoma's eyes twitched. He looked around to make sure no one was listening before whispering harshly, "Momo, you are one malfunction away from public indecency charges."
Momo frowned, folding her arms. "That's not true! My costume is designed to be optimal for my Quirk. I need as much exposed skin as possible to efficiently create objects in battle."
Ryoma pinched the bridge of his nose. "Oh, for fuck's sake—did it ever occur to you that you could've just designed a normal outfit with zippers? You know, so you don't have to walk around looking like a lost Victoria's Secret model in a superhero internship?"
Momo's expression remained composed, though a hint of pink dusted her cheeks. "That would slow me down. I need immediate access to my skin, not waste time fumbling with zippers or fabric."
Ryoma threw his hands in the air. "Then buttons! Velcro! Tear-away fabric like those basketball warm-up pants! Anything other than this glorified swimsuit!"
Momo huffed, standing her ground. "I designed my costume with efficiency in mind! My Quirk works best with direct skin exposure, and a full-body suit with zippers or buttons would still restrict me. This is the most optimized design for my abilities."
Ryoma gave her a flat look. "Optimized for what? Maximum distraction? Are you trying to make villains surrender out of sheer awkwardness?"
Momo sighed, rolling her eyes. "You're overreacting, Ryoma. This is a tactical choice."
Ryoma inhaled deeply, as if summoning patience from the depths of hell. He was done with her stubbornness, like parents being disappointed with their kid.
Then, without another word, he unfastened his long cape, yanked it off his shoulders, and draped it around her.
"At least make a goddamn cape, Momo," he grumbled.
Momo blinked in surprise, looking down at the heavy fabric now covering her. "…It does add a certain dramatic flair."
"And it covers you."
"…That too."
Ryoma wondered whether this world he reimcarnated in was infact a fantasy of average horny comic/manga writers.
_______________
(The fight between team A and team D was the same to canon.)
______________
"Well I'd say the MVP in this battle was Ida!", All Might commented.
"Not Ochako or Midoriya even though they won?", Tsuyu with a question a lot pff students wanted to ask.
"I wonder why? Anyone know?!", All Might asked the class.
"I do, All Might sensei.", Momo raised her hand.
"Ah hah! Ms Yaoyorozu!", All Might, eager for her answer.
Momo began: " It's because Iida was most able to adapt to the scenario.
From what I saw, Bakugo's every action was motivated by an obvious personal grudge.
And as you mentioned before, Sensei, using destructive attacks indoors is foolish.
Midoriya's performance suffered from the same faults.
Uraraka lost focus halfway through, and her final attack was far too haphazard. Such an attack would be unthinkable if the nuclear weapon were real.
But Iida formed an actual counter-strategy, and he envisioned what the actual struggle would be like. He was only too late in reacting at the very end.
The hero team only won because this was a training exercise with exploitable constraints."
Momo's words made everyone silent, she was accurate to every bit of details observed from the battle.
'She said it better than I could!!', The number 1 hero of Japan was shocked by her intelligence and sharpness as he replied in a comical trembling tone:
"I-I'd also add that Iida was a bit too stiff, but… yes... you're correct! Very good, thank you very much Ms Yaoyorozu!"
"We've got to start at the bottom and work up! And if we don't earnestly cheer each other on, we'll never be top heroes!", Momo confidently exclaimed.
Ryoma with his impressed face gave her an "Okay" hand gesture as a compliment.
____
After a few more battle, it was Ryoma's and Momo's turns.
Write a battle between Team C(Ryoma and Momo) and Team G(Kyoka Jiro and Denki Kaminari).
Villains: Ryoma Kurogane & Momo Yaoyorozu
Heroes: Kyoka Jiro & Denki Kaminari.
Ryoma adjusted his earpiece as Momo handed him a set of miniature cameras, no bigger than an insect. She had created them along with a receiver that displayed the live feed.
Ryoma released the cameras into the air with a flick of his fingers. The tiny devices dispersed, carried by his magnetic control, slipping through vents, under doors, and along walls.
Momo watched the receiver's screen, where grainy black-and-white footage showed Jiro and Kaminari carefully navigating the second floor.
"I got them. They're moving toward the central staircase," she reported.
"Alright, give me 'the toys' to play.", Ryoma said.
Momo placed her hand against her shoulder, materializing a handful of metallic objects. Ryoma used them to create barricades in other alternative exits or pathways in the building so those two couldn't escape.
And even for extra care precaution, Ryoma covered up the entire fake nuclear bomb that they supposed to protect in thick steel barriers.
Meanwhile, Jiro was pressing her jacks to the floor, sending out a pulse of sound waves for echolocation. The feedback returned almost immediately:"....Many things scattering on the floors, they are just everywhere ahead of us….".
"Definitely that magnet top 1 guy….Gosh darn it! How unlucky are we to be picked to fight him?!", Kaminari groaned.
Before they could decide on a course of action, the walls beside them creaked. A moment later, a dozen steel balls shot towards them at high speed.
"Move!" Jiro snapped.
Kaminari dove to the side while Jiro swung her earjacks, releasing a concentrated soundwave that deflected some of the projectiles. However, neither of them noticed the small cameras now hovering near the ceiling, silently tracking their every movement.
Both of them were shocked, everywhere was metallic barriers blocking the way.Their quirks weren't suitable for long duration battle,
If they decided to destroy the barriers, they would drain themselves before they could fight Ryoma and Momo.
They had no choice but to find the other way.
From a secure position, Ryoma adjusted his stance. "Just like the plan, they're retreating to our ambushing area."
Momo nodded. "I'm ready."
Jiro and Kaminari sprinted down the corridor, only to come to an abrupt halt.
A reinforced barricade blocked their path.
"…This wasn't here before," Kaminari muttered.
Jiro clenched her jaw. "They planned this."
Behind them, a faint metallic hum filled the air. Before they could react, a cluster of steel balls shot toward them.
"Screw this! I ain't losing without at least bringing up a fight! Jiro, stay far away from me!", Kaminari warned as Jiro ran away.
Kaminari reacted instinctively, discharging a burst of electricity to fry the steel balls mid-air.
The steel balls clattered to the ground, but Kaminari's breathing was heavier.
Taking this chance, Momo from her ambush hiding spot, threw an insulated capture net at Kaminari.
Kaminari barely had time to react before the net wrapped around him, nullifying his Quirk output.
"What the—?!" Kaminari struggled, but the material absorbed his electricity instead of conducting it.
Jiro attempted to retaliate, swinging her jacks toward Momo—
A thick steel pipe struck at Jiro, bent and curled around her body, chaining her up in seconds.
"Urgh, ouch ouch!", Jiro twitching her face in pain.
A silhouette taking shape of a boy wearing cape and a helmet emerged from the shadow at the end of the corridor.
"Surrender. We've already accounted for all of your movements.", Ryoma's voice echoed.
Jiro with a smirk: "Not all of them, 'genius'.", she plugged her jacks into her boots, amplifying her heartbeat's vibration significantly towards Ryoma.
A deafening shockwave blasted down the corridor, strong enough to crack the concrete walls.
Momo lied down to the ground, covering her ears.
It hit Ryoma directly, by Jiro's confidence, he would fall to the ground with his ears bleeding.
But in reality, the "Ryoma silhouette" she aimed at….was actually just a fake dummy made from metals wearing Ryoma's helmet and cape. It revealed itself as it…floated closer to them.
Jiro's confidence shattered into pure shock. "W-What—?!"
Before she could react, something yanked her boots clean off her feet.
A thin but strong metal wire shot forward, wrapping tightly around her jacks, disabling them.
The boots floated in the air for a second before landing neatly in Ryoma's hand—the real Ryoma, who had been watching them from cover the entire time.
He inspected them for a moment, his expression unreadable.
"…The boots act like speakers to amplify your Quirk, huh? Not bad." He turned them slightly
"Damn it….", Jiro cursed.
Team Villains win.
The monitors displayed the aftermath of the match as the remaining students gathered to discuss the results. All Might stood at the front, a proud but analytical look on his face
"WELL DONE, EVERYONE!" His booming voice filled the room. "That was an excellent display of strategy, adaptability, and teamwork! Let's go over the key takeaways from this match!"
All Might addressed Jiro and Kaminari first, offering constructive criticism. He praised Kaminari's quick reflexes in neutralizing the steel balls but pointed out his over-reliance on his Quirk, which left him vulnerable to being countered. Kaminari took the feedback with a groan, realizing he needed improvements.
For Jiro, All Might acknowledged her smart use of her Quirk and her attempt at a decisive counterattack. It was simply too unfortunate for her to fall for Ryoma's decoy trap. She sighed, admitting she should have been more cautious.
Despite their defeat, All Might reassured them that their teamwork and decision-making were solid, but they needed to anticipate their opponents' strategies better.
All Might turned toward Team C. "Now, onto the victors."
"Ya mean the two scheming sly foxes," Kaminari muttered.
All Might chuckled before addressing Momo first.
"Yaoyorozu! Your use of support items was fantastic! The insulated net was a brilliant way to disable Kaminari without putting yourself at risk.
And the highlight of the plan must be your use of created tiny size cameras gave your team an intelligence advantage! Outstanding!!!
I must admit you surprised me a lot for today!"
Momo nodded, smiling. "Sensei, the cameras were actually Ryoma's idea. He designed them, and I practiced making them before we entered U.A."
The class murmured in surprise.
"Wait, you made the cameras before you got here?!" Sero asked.
Momo nodded. "Yes, Ryoma insisted on working out different combat applications of my Quirk in advance."
Sero turned to Ryoma, eyebrows raised. "Dude, that's kinda scary."
Momo added, "He was also the one who planned most of our strategy. I helped refine it, but he had countermeasures prepared for every possibility."
Tokoyami crossed his arms. "He was many steps ahead. A genius strategist in battle is always the most dangerous opponent."
"Still, it wasn't just strategy," Ida pointed out. "Ryoma's ability to precisely manipulate metal objects in combat is remarkable. That level of control is not easy to achieve!"
Ryoma remained quiet.
All Might nodded, then turned his attention to Ryoma:
"Hahahaha! If that's the case then the biggest credits must infact belong to you, young Kurogane!! Your proficient use of magnetism for offensive, retraint, setting barriers, your decoy strategy and even your high intelligence to design this complex tiny cameras beforehands? All truly exceptional!!!"
All Might clapped his hands together, visibly thrilled. "That's exactly the kind of proactive thinking that creates top heroes! Not just raw power, but innovation!" His booming voice filled the room as he gestured toward the monitors. "You are a clear example proving that heroes don't just react. They anticipate!
I'm impressed, young Kurogane. Truly impressed. With this pace, you will definitely become a top hero in the future."
"Thank you, sir.", Ryoma bowed politely.
