MHA:A New Ending

Chapter 21: The Sport Festival [3]

"Akuma."

Ojiro's voice cut through the background chatter as I walked toward the balcony where our group was watching the last stage of the festival. I wasn't there earlier because I was attending to "business" before the first match started.

I stopped and slowly turned to face him. His expression was indecisive, almost intimidated, but his sharp eyes focused on me, examining my movements. I put my hands on my waist and asked, "Is there a problem, Ojiro?"

"You know the quirk of that guy? The one we teamed up with in the Cavalry Battle?"

"I have no idea what you mean."

"I saw you! I don't remember what happened in the last round! But after it ended, I saw you. You were smiling at each other, like friends."

His expression shifted from indecisive to anger in an instant. He got close to me, his brow furrowed in distrust. I didn't react; as you might guess, I couldn't let this affect my status. If I lied once, I'd always be remembered as a liar—which I am, but they couldn't know that. Not now.

"You knew how his quirk worked. It's vile and evil, and you didn't tell me. Aren't you going to tell Izuku about it?"

"Ojiro," my voice became more serious, tensing the air in the corridor. "Do you think his quirk, the only thing he didn't ask for in this life, makes him vile? What about me? Am I gross for being born as an inhuman mutant?"

"W-what? No, Akuma! It's just that..."

"He didn't ask to be born this way, Ojiro. You should understand that before jumping to conclusions."

He snapped out of his anger. He looked at me, then at the floor, clenching his fists and gritting his teeth. I had to double down now.

"It's not my job to tell you. Do you think a hero would always need to be taken care of? What kind of hero would that be? That was your mistake, not my fault."

"So are you going to ignore Izuku? Are you going to let him lose because of it?!"

"Don't be dumb. It's obvious the situation changed. With this stage being a 1v1 battle, it's optimal for him to understand the quirk of his opponent. I was going to tell him if you didn't."

He stared at me and finally calmed down. A small smile appeared on his face before he turned around.

"You're a good friend, Akuma, even if you make excuses for it."

"...Huh?"

I didn't get to say anything else. He rounded the corner, and the whole thing was over, but that last sentence made my head spin.

Me? A good friend? Please, that's not possible.

"Knock, knock."

I opened the door of the waiting room where Izuku was staying before he got called to the central platform. He looked at me, his gaze showing how worried he was about this situation. I sat at the table before speaking.

"Akuma, why are you here?"

"I wanted to tell you about Shinso's quirk."

He looked at me as I played with my nails. I smiled at him as he settled into his chair, looking at me somewhat nervously.

"His quirk is the ability to control people's minds at will. He only needs to establish a conversation, and the victim is under his complete control."

Deku's eyes tensed as he put his index finger in his mouth, whispering things to himself.

"If you get trapped, your only way out is pain. A little hit, a broken bone—everything that makes your mind numb for a few seconds is enough."

"Pain? So if I open my mouth, it's over... and the only way of getting out is by force..."

"Just to be clear, don't ever open your mouth."

His voice was trembling and nervous. I left the table as I grabbed his shoulder. A small string entered his clothes—a failsafe, in case he couldn't do it for some reason. I needed him to win, and this was my last option.

"Izuku, don't be so nervous. I trust you. I think you've got this."

"Thanks, Akuma, you're helping me a lot here."

"Hey, give your best. I'm aiming to win, and I hope you are too. So let's meet at the top, okay?"

"Yes!"

"IZUKU MIDORIYA! FROM CLASS 1-A! FIRST CALL!"

Present Mic's voice echoed through the room. Midoriya's body tensed up as I chuckled. We bumped fists before he left, and I stood there, thinking, thinking a lot.

"Oh ho! Akuma! Did you get lost?!"

Mina's voice made my day a little better, just a little. She was waving at me from the middle row as all my other classmates looked at the platform. I sat right beside her, with Jiro and Momo behind me, and Denki and Kirishima in front. The sound of cheers filled the stadium as two figures, one green, one purple, approached the center.

Mina turned to me and asked, "Do you think Deku can win, Akuma? You teamed up with that Shinso, after all."

"Yeah, dude! Does Izuku have a chance?"

The interested looks of my classmates pricked at my skin as I briefly answered, a smile on my face. "Deku is going to win. I have no doubts about it."

I could see Iida and Ochako smiling at each other at my response. Shoto silently nodded, and Bakugo made a "tch" with his mouth as we all focused on Deku. He was just an inexperienced student right now, but I knew the truth: behind that apparently innocent student, a monster was in the making. And I'm excited to see, Izuku Midoriya, if I will be up to being your final enemy.

As the crowd screamed in excitement and the cameras focused on the faces of the first two students to fight in this last stage of the UA Sports Festival, these two, green and purple, were thinking about what that one guy had told them.

Akuma Matsumoto.

For Shinso, Akuma was a strange person. When he first met him in the 1-A classroom, he showed true arrogance, downplaying the other students with egoism. Everyone in Class 1-C hated him; maybe even he hated him a little. This only intensified after Akuma's presentation before the Festival began.

Shinso was waiting for an opportunity to get back at him and shatter his pride, but Akuma was the one to seek him out.

After the second stage, they ended up on good terms. Shinso realized Akuma wasn't all that arrogant. His contradictory actions only made him wonder who that guy truly was. And before this very moment, Akuma Matsumoto had talked with him in the waiting room.

"Don't let Izuku Midoriya fool you. I'm sure he's going to put up a hell of a battle even if you trap him in your quirk, so be aware: if he doesn't follow your orders, attack him without doubt."

For Deku, Akuma was a good friend. He always felt a distance between them, but Matsumoto was always kind to him. Unlike Bakugo or Todoroki, Akuma always talked with him in the morning about meaningless things: Heroes, All Might, videogames. They seemed connected by similar tastes.

With his conversation in the waiting room, Deku was sure Akuma was his friend, and he placed his goodwill on him, so he couldn't lose this.

"START!"

Everyone watched at the same instant as Izuku instantly activated a primitive state of Full Cowl. It was only possible thanks to Akuma's intervention in the U.S.J. attack. His speed was more than enough to take Shinso by surprise, but Shinso repeated the words Akuma Matsumoto told him to say in front of Izuku.

"So are you going to date Uraraka?"

"W-WHAT?!"

The movement of Izuku, who was already centimeters away from his opponent's face, suddenly ceased. Shinso's voice was lost in the sound of the wind to everyone but Akuma, who was hearing everything from the small string he implanted in Izuku. Akuma covered his face with his hands to avoid laughing, like a little kid.

After the U.S.J. attack, Akuma noticed that Izuku was developing Full Cowl much earlier than expected. So he theorized Deku would defeat Shinso without entering the controlled state he was in during the original show. That was meant to be the start of his connection between the other OFA carriers, so this strategy was necessary in case his hypothesis ended up being true.

With that, Deku was left at the mercy of Shinso, who didn't hesitate to order his will.

"Get out of bounds and surrender."

His voice sounded throughout the stadium this time. Everyone stared at Deku, who started moving in the opposite direction.

"You said he would win, Akumaaaaaaa!"

My body was jostled by Mina, who was pushing and pulling me back and forth. I stood there and waited.

If he wasn't able to get out of the trance alone, I would have to intervene, since Izuku still had a role to fulfill as the one to make Shoto use his fire, and that's something I couldn't do without him.

If he failed to break his finger, I would break it for him with my string.

As I gnawed on my nail, waiting for the last moment to act, a blow sounded throughout the place, the air moved as I stared at Deku, who stopped walking.

So he really did it, huh?

Before stepping out of the line, Izuku was staring at Shinso with his broken finger, covering his mouth while whispering unheard things. Shinso, as I'd recommended, didn't wait and ran toward him.

"That's impressive! You're going to fight me?!"

A blow was thrown at Izuku. He used Full Cowl to avoid it, responding with a punch that Shinso blocked, crossing his arms. The force of the impact sent him flying to the center of the platform. He stood up as Deku reached him once again. They both attacked each other, throwing punches without hesitation.

"You sure are strong, right?!"

Deku didn't respond. Grabbing Shinso's arm, he threw him away. As Shinso landed on his back, just before his body left the line, he stopped—just a mere inch away from being disqualified. Quickly standing up, he charged into Deku once again.

They grappled for a while, punch after punch, the fight became a little more violent than expected, grabbing each other clothes to have a better angle to hit,Everyone in the stadium was staring, not even breathing. The end of the match was very close, I could tell.

Each fist that impacted the face of one another left blood on their faces. Seeing this, the teachers considered stopping them, but neither participant looked worried. They were too focused on the fight for anyone to interrupt.

A punch from Shinso to the face made Izuku step back. This moment was crucial. Grabbing both of Deku's arms, Shinso started to push Izuku from the platform, inch by inch. Deku wasn't able to stop his opponent from taking him out of bounds.

"BAM!"

Shinso's body was thrown from the platform by the pure force of Deku's quirk. His other finger was broken. He stood, looking at the ground as tears formed in his eyes from the pain.

"IZUKU MIDORIYA! ADVANCES TO THE NEXT ROUND!"

The stadium exploded in cheers, screams, and claps were all that was heard in the place. Unlike the original fight, Shinso and Deku were quickly driven to the nurse by robots, lying on an emergency stretcher it seemed that they were talking as they disappeared in the tunnel

"A GREAT START, AIZAWA! A VERY CLOSE COMBAT FIGHT!"

"Whoa... so he did win," Denki said as he leaned his head to see me. I briefly chuckled.

"I told you, didn't I? Always trust Deku in these types of cases."

Izuku is not only the original protagonist in this world, he is a character I liked back in the old days, and he is the one that I hope is going to stop me in the future, but that's another story

"TODOROKI SHOTO AND HANTA SERO, GET TO YOUR WAITING STATIONS!"

Less than two hours later, I was already waiting for my own battle to begin. The fights between my classmates were somewhat boring, given this was the first round, after all.

Todoroki was as ruthless as you might have guessed. Without even thinking, he used his quirk to summon a super glacial ice on Sero, winning in an instant. It was surprising that I fought that guy in the past; he was a monster in terms of raw strength.

When he was leaving the stadium, just as the air became cold and made my skin numb, we made eye contact. It wasn't a friendly stare in the slightest; he was determined, and he was looking directly at me.

I guess he wants a rematch.

The third fight began shortly after: Mina vs. Momo.

I made sure to talk with both of them before their match since we had a little friendship, just to give them my support individually. This one was the first non-canon fight, after all. Let's see how this went.

They looked at each other as they walked in. Mina's pinkish skin glowed as the sun hit her. I stared down with my arms crossed, betting with myself on the result as a muscular arm wrapped around my neck.

It was Kirishima.

"You seem to be deeply interested in this fight, huh, Akuma?" he said, holding back a laugh. I didn't get it.

I looked at him to also see Denki staring at me.

"Huh? I guess so? It's a good matchup, after all."

They got closer, so I moved my face backward, trying to avoid eye contact as they giggled.

Seriously, what was wrong with these two?

I turned around to watch as the battle began. Mina instantly made the ground slippery with her quirk. Moving quickly, she cut the space between herself and Momo, who made a rope net from her belly, throwing it directly at Mina.

Mina didn't stop, with a single slap the net was melted, using all her momentum she put up her fist to my disgrace, I told her multiple times as we trained to not do that, her punch met a just generated metal shield, the thing bended a little as Mina backed down, moving her hand in pain making little jumps, in that same moment, from behind the shield, a black object fly directly at the face of the girl.

A white flashbang covered the body of Mina completely, producing a annoying sound in the ears.

Mina backed up, covering her ears and eyes, completely disoriented as Momo quickly retaliated, she grabbed a large handcuffs freshly made, using Mina's acid she slide between the legs of her opponent, grabbing the first side of the handcuffs in the wrist of the left hand of Mina.

"ACK!"

Instead of going for the other hand Momo quickly close the handcuffs in Mina's right ankle, leaving the girl in a uncomfortable position, I smiled as Mina tried to melt the metal, but without waiting for her, Momo just push her slightly.

Falling in her own acids Mina slide out of bounds .

"MOMO YAOYOROZU ADVANCES TO THE NEXT ROUND!"

"That was... creative?"

"It sure was dude..."

Huh, and I thought she was going to lose.

Denki, Kirishima and I were looking somewhat perplexed, down there Mina finally was able to get free of the handcuffs, she smiled at the stands with her eyes closer and the tongue out, seriously, that girl...

Should I even recap the next two fights?

Tokoyami absolutely mauled Aoyama. Dark Shadow was a menace, dodging Aoyama's pathetics attempts of an attack, throwing mindlessly lasers to Tokoyami, who didn't even try before ending the fight with a single attack.

Now that I mentioned it, I wonder how this whole "traitor" thing was about to go down, considering I am about to convert into one too.

Are we going to make a help group?

Anyway, the Hatsume and Iida fight was also pretty quick and boring. Using Iida as a living commercial was pretty funny and all but nothing interesting happened after that, anyways, Mei surrendered and Lida passed to the next round, and speaking of Hatsume, I have to ask for a favor to that girl, it's about my body

You'll see, I'd already planned this.

As I was about to leave for the waiting room, I was stopped by Jiro, who was waving at me.

"Hey, dude, you aren't going to be so rough with Kaminari, right?"

"I plan to be. I'm going with all I have."

"Seriously?! But he's weaker than you, isn't he?!"

"We'll see, Jiro. Just watch, okay?"

She stared at me, not convinced, trying to hide the fact she was worried about her friend.

How cute.

"AKUMA MATSUMOTO! DENKI KAMINARI! FIRST CALL!"

I got up as my name sounded, leaving my cellphone behind since Denki could make it blow if he got a good hit on me, and I didn't want to lose another one.

The Nomu had made me realize I didn't have the money to be fighting with my phone so close.

As I was leaving, a trace of perfume invaded my nose.

I instantly recognized it, turning around to see Kendo leaning against one side of the door.

"You could've knocked."

"I didn't want to interrupt, you know? I... I just wanted to say good luck, Akuma."

"Is that true? Hmm, how cute."

"Don't say it like that. I still don't forgive you for what you did in the last round, you know?"

She smiled once again, hitting me in my arm,her orange ponytail waving slightly as we stared, just for a moment.

The next second, we turned away our gazes, visibly uncomfortable with the lack of conversation.

We ended up shaking hands before I left.

The sound of cheers slowly became more audible as I walked in the corridor to the exit.

Standing in the center of the platform was Denki. I got there, and we looked at each other. His eyes made his determination clear, and I liked it.

We went to our sides and...

"START!"

I could feel the electrons in the air accumulating in one place. That idiot, he didn't even hesitate to do his most powerful attack.

"TAKE THIS, AKU—"

"WAIT!"

"H-huh?"

I stopped him, screaming at the top of my lungs. The charge ceased as Cementoss stared at us from his improvised throne.

"Don't do that, stupid. What do you think is going to happen?"

"This is a fight, dude! There's no time to teach!"

"Then so be it!"

I charged at him, not letting him breathe as my punch impacted directly in his stomach.

He repelled me with a burst of electric charge that my body ate, invulnerable to it. He rushed at me but was quickly met by a combo of hits: a kick to his leg, destabilizing his whole body, a hit to his face, and a grab that ended in a full throw, landing him on his back.

"A-ack!"

"Get up."

He didn't wait for me. As my words left my mouth, a shock of electricity impacted once again. I blocked it with my hand, but the damage was enough to make me back off and start regenerating.

Denki slowly stood up, his forehead bleeding as he gritted his teeth, staring at me with his hands wreathed in yellow thunder.

"AKUMA!!"

He put his hand on the ground as an electric wave came to me quickly, I jumped to avoid it, redirecting my fall

I punched the ground as I landed in front of him, breaking the concrete and making him trip over. A hit directly to his chin landed before my chest received a shock, he was able to delivered before being hit, my body trembles as I feel the pressure, I grab his clothes and make him come closer to headbutt him.

I continue and threw a punch that was dodged. My head was blown away by another burst, breaking half of it into strings that quickly got back together, forming my face once again.

I didn't wait for it to end before landing another kick. He blocked it with his arm, just like I teach him,he flies away, I cut the distance with a jump, being above his head I do a descendant kick, directly in his head, I can see he spits saliva and some blood after the hit connects

The sound of electricity invaded my ears as I threw a thread to the other side of the arena, being pulled by the ground to move away from the explosion that went off behind me.

Denki turned around, sweating as I usemy strings for the first time to end this quickly.

He ran at me but didn't get closer as his feet got trapped. He didn't hesitate to throw his electric attack. I walked to him, only moving my head out of the way to avoid the hit at the last second.

"It's over already?"

"Shut up, dude."

I moved my fingers; his eyes opened in surprise as he noticed his feet were free once again.

"Get up, Kaminari."

"Don't play with me, Akuma."

"I'm giving you the opportunity to fight me. Are you going to take it?"

He didn't respond.

My body received the impact directly, a yellow light invaded my sight as I was thrown away, landing on my stomach, my body didn't respond, getting up with difficulty my face received some punches, moving my head left to right as they impacted, I couldn't see nothing, but it's not necessary, with my left hand I grabbed his wrist, smiling

I responded, kicking him in the stomach, but he didn't back off, without noticing, thanks to the blur on my eyes Denki was already fully charged, and about to explote

"THIS IS ALL I HAVE AKUMA!"

"You crazy bastard!!"

The explosion went off.

The public waited as the smoke cleared to see Denki Kaminari standing next to a half-burned thread cocoon.

As he was about to fall, a hand came out to grab it, revealing Akuma completely untouched.

"AKUMA MATSUMOTO ADVANCES TO THE NEXT ROUND!"

"Kaminari, you are dumb for sure huh? I told you that wasn't going to work"

"I-i...I wanted to try"

He said before he completely passed out, resting her head on my shoulder, I laugh as the cocoon broke, lifting him in my arms

I didn't remember him being so reckless.

Was this part of my intervention?

The stadium clapped as I walked with Denki, put him in the care of the nursing robots before I went back to the balcony.

Only two battles left in this first round.
