Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Elite Soldiers and Iron-Blooded Generals
After everything had concluded, the team returned to space with the six Gundams via a special channel. However, Myer and the others didn't realize that they were not the only ones returning to space. Along with them were Sergei and his Top Warrior unit.
Sergei and Peries, who were originally supposed to have returned to space long ago, had delayed their departure until now because the specialized Mobile Suits for the Top Warrior unit had just been completed.
"Colonel!"
"Hm, is this Ambush?"
Even the composed Sergei couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement upon seeing the true form of the Ambush.
With a design completely different from the Iron Man, it no longer looked as bulky but still exuded a heavy, metallic mechanical feel. The body's lines were sharper, yet the external armor's defensive capability exceeded that of the Iron Man. The head had also undergone a complete redesign, removing the single eye and protruding sensors, instead resembling a human head wearing a stylish helmet and large sunglasses, with electronic components inside (similar to the Jesta).
"Mobile Suit model MSJ-07-A, official name Ambush. The body is built with a new mobile skeleton, and both the skeleton and external armor are made from E-carbon. Its performance far exceeds the Iron Man in all aspects. According to data from Test Model 001, the hand weapons have been replaced with miniature beam weapons. Based on the data left by Second Lieutenant Myer, four tactical backpacks have been developed: a strike backpack for long-range raids, a heavy armor backpack for frontal breakthroughs, a heavy weapon backpack for long-range fire support, and a recon backpack for reconnaissance. These backpacks can be swapped based on mission needs. The Academy's scholars are also working on developing more types of tactical backpacks, though there haven't been many results yet." The technical advisor reported to Sergei.
"Mm... It's already quite impressive for now," Sergei said.
"The scholars mentioned that this mobile suit is still a semi-finished product. Currently, the energy system cannot support the full performance of Ambush. To fully utilize its potential, a new generation of energy systems will need to be developed."
"Ah, I see..." Sergei almost choked on his words. Wasn't it obvious the energy system was the issue? Having joined Celestial Being, he had quickly realized that Myer had designed this Mobile Suit based on the specifications of the GN Drive!
Although he didn't know how Myer had managed to design the Ambush before joining Celestial Being, knowing this man's track record of insane actions since his childhood, it wasn't too surprising.
"So... is this my Mobile Suit?" Sergei asked, though he remained outwardly calm, his inner excitement about testing his new machine was almost overwhelming.
However...
"No, Colonel, this is Second Lieutenant Peries's dedicated suit. We've made adjustments based on her data and removed most of the safety restrictions. We believe Second Lieutenant will be able to fully utilize the suit's performance."
"Safety restrictions were removed?" Sergei frowned at this.
Every Mobile Suit came with safety limiters, meaning no Mobile Suit could reach its full potential. There were many reasons for this, but the most important were the pilot's inability to withstand the shocks, even with a G-suit, and the excessive wear and tear on the machine if it ran at full capacity for too long.
"There's no problem. Based on the data from the Superhuman Institute, Second Lieutenant Peries's physical condition exceeds that of most soldiers, well within the acceptable range."
"Is that so? Well, we'll need to test it out. Once we have the accurate data, we'll reach a conclusion," Sergei ordered.
"Understood, Colonel."
"So... where is my Mobile Suit?" Sergei asked.
"Right this way, Colonel. I believe you'll like it," the technical advisor replied, excitement creeping into his voice.
Confused, Sergei followed the advisor, bringing Peries along, to the other side of the hangar. Upon seeing the new suit, he couldn't look away.
If Ambush looked like a seasoned, brave soldier, the Mobile Suit in front of him was a commanding, iron-blooded general.
Thick black armor covered the frame, its sturdy "muscles" hidden beneath. Two beam sabers hung at the waist, with numerous adjustable thrusters hidden beneath the skirt armor. The dual shoulder-mounted beam cannons glowed like tusks, while the right hand held a rifle and the left hand wielded a shield. Under the shield was a deadly dual-barrel Gatling cannon, and the tip of the shield gleamed with cold light.
"Mobile Suit model: MSJ-08, official name Back Wei. This is the suit designed specifically for you, Colonel," the technical advisor said, his gaze fixed on Back Wei with fiery passion. This enthusiasm wasn't just for the Mobile Suit, but also for Myer, whose achievements had inspired everyone in the Academy. Among the younger generation, Myer was the benchmark, the goal that everyone aspired to. Though other nations may not know it, within the Human Reform League, Myer was the symbol.
At such a young age, he had left a series of next-generation research projects for the Academy, helping the Human Reform League surpass UNION and AEU in terms of technology, especially military technology. The design of next-gen Mobile Suits, theories on miniaturized beam weapons, and more were all things that earned Myer the respect and admiration of his peers.
"The armament includes a beam rifle, two beam sabers, two beam cannons, and a defensive shield system featuring dual-barrel 300mm Gatling cannons, E-carbon stabbing blades, and an E-carbon shield. Back Wei's back is equipped with a universal interface, similar to Ambush, allowing it to use all of Ambush's backpacks. Due to the practicality of beam weapons, it utilizes the latest energy technology, and since Back Wei's output power exceeds that of Ambush, please be mindful of the energy levels during operation."
Sergei nodded, his eyes filled with complexity as he stared at Back Wei. This was a gift from Myer, the most important gift he had received, second only to saving his wife, Heli. However, now he was about to use this gift to face Myer.
"Colonel?" Peries called out, noticing Sergei's distracted expression. She had never seen him look like this.
"Mm? Nothing, just thinking about something," Sergei replied, quickly masking his emotions.
"Colonel, you must be thinking about Second Lieutenant, huh? You're lucky to have such an excellent brother," the technical advisor joked. But the envy was genuine. Who wouldn't envy having such an outstanding, devoted younger brother?
When the Academy's old-timers first received the data, the higher-ups were shocked. After much deliberation, it was confirmed that Back Wei couldn't be mass-produced with the current conditions, but the issue of ownership caused a lot of debate. Many of the Academy's staff had children in the military, and possessing a Mobile Suit like this would ensure safety and military achievements.
After much arguing, the senior members of the Academy, led by Wang Lao, had directly put their foot down, declaring that Back Wei was designated for Sergei and no one else could take it. This put an end to the dispute.
After all, these senior members were highly respected, with their high status, age, and contributions. It wasn't something the higher-ups could simply ignore.
"Yeah, that kid... is the luckiest thing to have happened to me in my life," Sergei said with a gentle smile.
Peries was used to this expression from Sergei whenever Myer was mentioned. It only deepened her curiosity about Myer's existence.
"I just didn't think they could actually build it. It couldn't have been easy, right?" Sergei said.
"Yeah, I'm not sure why the old-timers were so determined to build it, working overtime and all. They really scared a lot of people. If something had gone wrong with their health, it would have been a huge problem," the technical advisor said with a wry smile.
"Hm... I see. Has it been tested?"
"It has been tested, but the data wasn't great."
"Mm? What happened?" Sergei frowned. He didn't believe that the Mobile Suit designed for him by Myer could be a failure.
"According to the report and data, the test pilot was unable to properly operate it."
"Ah... fine. I'll conduct the test myself."
"Understood, Colonel. This is also part of your mission. The test for Back Wei will be cond
ucted alongside the special version of Ambush for Second Lieutenant."
