Mobile Suit Wars: Starting with Gundam OO

Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Testing, Out of Control

"Approach cleared. Back Wei Colonel Sergei, please launch!"

"Roger. Sergei Smirnov, Back Wei, launching."

It was a dialogue that had been repeated countless times, yet it felt completely different this time. The intense thrust immediately slammed Sergei into his seat, and even with the new pilot suit to mitigate the pressure, the force was still so great that it caused Sergei discomfort.

Once his body adjusted to the inertia from the Back Wei's launch, Sergei breathed heavily, cursing under his breath, "This damn kid! This much thrust... is he trying to crush me to death?!"

"Sorry, Colonel, I forgot to inform you earlier. The initial acceleration of Back Wei is three times that of the Iron Man, and 1.5 times that of Ambush," the technical advisor awkwardly apologized.

"Should've told me this earlier!" Sergei swore. If it weren't for his sturdy physique, he might have passed out from the force just now.

Well, he couldn't blame anyone. Back Wei, like Ambush, was designed by Myer based on the specifications of a GN Drive. Although it was now powered by high-performance solar batteries, the original energy source was still the GN Drive, which had several unique characteristics, including the ability to reduce force.

"Colonel." On the other side, Peries piloted her dedicated Ambush special version and arrived next to Back Wei.

"Mm. Let's begin the test, Liao Advisor, give us the test instructions."

"Understood. First, we'll test the high-speed movement and emergency steering data. The relevant routes have already been transmitted, but Colonel, Second Lieutenant, please note that the actual performance of Back Wei and Ambush special version is still unknown. If any unexpected issues arise, please immediately halt the test," the technical advisor warned.

The Ambush special version was relatively easier to test, as it was just an enhancement of the original Ambush, but Back Wei's performance was harder to predict. As Myer's former mentor once said about Back Wei, "This Mobile Suit is a monster, and the person who designed it is a monster. Only a monster can pilot it!"

However, Sergei held an extremely high position in the military. Even though Back Wei cost five times the price of a mass-produced Ambush and ten times that of the Iron Man, almost equal to the cost of a transport ship, they still didn't believe it could compare to Sergei's safety. So, in the event of an emergency, they would rather sacrifice Back Wei than risk Sergei's life.

"Understood. First, Level 1, Second Lieutenant, let's begin."

"Understood."

As Sergei and Peries slowly pushed their control sticks and lightly stepped on the pedals, the exhaust ports behind Back Wei and Ambush special version began to emit faint glows. Both suits followed the system's guidance and moved in the specified direction.

"Status good. All systems stable. Proceeding to Level 2."

"Understood." The two received the advisor's instructions and began gradually increasing the output power of their suits. Their speed accelerated, and they performed directional changes as instructed.

"Status good. All systems stable. Proceeding to Level 3, Colonel, please be cautious," the advisor's instructions followed, with a particularly nervous reminder at the end.

It was from Level 3 that issues had arisen in previous tests. The required output power surpassed that of the Iron Man without limiters. At this point, Back Wei, which was highly sensitive, would require extraordinary piloting skills. Even a small mistake could lead to failure.

Moreover, Level 3 added emergency evasion and dodging maneuvers, which put tremendous physical strain on the pilot.

"Understood."

Taking the advisor's warning seriously, Sergei focused all his attention. He knew testing the experimental Mobile Suit was risky. He didn't want any accidents. His wife and children were waiting for him at home, and this Mobile Suit was a gift from Myer—he didn't want to damage it and hear Myer's scolding.

Sergei carefully increased Back Wei's output power, feeling a mix of nervousness and excitement. The high-speed sensation was something he had never experienced in the Iron Man. For a moment, everything outside the cockpit seemed to slow down.

But the next second, he felt the control stick vibrating in his hand. The suit's posture shifted, and within moments, it began to tumble in space in an odd motion.

"Wooah~!"

"Colonel!"

Peries, seeing this, was alarmed, but couldn't do anything. Charging forward in this situation could cause a serious accident.

"I... I'm fine..." Sergei gritted his teeth and fought against the dizziness caused by the tumbling, struggling to regain control of Back Wei.

As expected of an ace pilot, Sergei regained control in just a few seconds, slowly adapting to the suit's sensitivity and finding a way to manage the controls.

"Colonel, are you alright?" Peries piloted Ambush special version to Back Wei's side, concerned.

"I'm fine. I think I've figured out how to tame this wild beast," Sergei replied.

"Colonel, do you need to return for a break?" The technical advisor also sent an urgent communication.

"No need. Let's continue with the test."

"But your body..."

"I'm not old yet! Don't worry, there won't be any issues this time."

"Understood. Then we'll skip Levels 1 and 2 and proceed directly to Level 3."

"Understood. But please stay cautious."

Reluctantly, the technical advisor complied. After all, Sergei held a high rank, and as a technical advisor without a military position, he had no choice but to obey the orders.

As Sergei had said, he slowly got the hang of Back Wei. The speed quickly increased, and this time, there were no further accidents. Following the system's guidance, Sergei and Peries piloted their suits in space, moving like agile fish, freely gliding through the cosmos.

The test entered its final stage, the most difficult stage: shooting and emergency stopping at high speeds.

The immense inertia placed a significant burden on Sergei's body. Several times, he almost couldn't recover his breath and nearly passed out. Also, trying to shoot at such high speeds for the first time added several marks of failure to the Back Wei's test data.

However, overall, the results were still good. This was the first time they had completed all the test procedures. Though the final data wasn't perfect, Sergei had shown outstanding adaptability. They believed that with a few more tests and training, he would fully master this wild horse.

Meanwhile, Peries's test data was even better. She had nearly pushed the performance of the Ambush special version to its limit, and she didn't show any signs of abnormality. The only thing left was to wait for the return and make detailed adjustments based on her firsthand experience.

But just then, an accident occurred.

"Ah~!!!!"

Suddenly, a scream came through the communicator. The camera footage revealed Peries's pale face, her expression twisted in pain. Despite Sergei and the others calling out to her, she didn't respond. Then...

"Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!"

For some unknown reason, Peries lifted a small-caliber smoothbore gun used for testing and began firing at the nearby orbital space station. Despite not penetrating the station's armor, the blasts...

Five gravitational zones separated from the space station and began to fall toward Earth.
