Chapter 73: Angelica(2)
Seeing the prince and his foolish companions treat Angelica with disdain, Leon decided not to delay his meeting with her any longer. He resolved to speak to her right now, while they were still in the dungeon. Leon knew that Angelica was passionately fascinated by everything related to adventurers. For her, the perfect date wasn't about dining in a fancy restaurant but exploring a mysterious dungeon.
Noticing how Angelica stood alone, sad and abandoned by the prince because of Marie, Leon decided to cheer her up. Olivia, who was part of his dungeon-clearing group, seemed to share the same sentiment. Together, they headed toward Angelica.
Approaching her, Leon confidently said,
"Would you care to join me?"
Angelica flinched upon hearing a voice behind her. Slowly turning to see who had addressed her, she met Leon's gaze with surprise.
"Oh… Viscount Leon Bartfort!" she exclaimed. "First of all, good day to you."
Her words were accompanied by a respectful bow, displaying impeccable manners.
"And secondly," she continued, slightly embarrassed, "could you repeat what you just said?"
Leon smiled softly.
"With pleasure. Would you like to join our dungeon-clearing group?"
"Yes, join us! It'll be fun with Leon around," Olivia chimed in cheerfully from behind him, her radiant smile adding warmth to the invitation.
Angelica looked at both of them, her gaze briefly drifting toward the direction where the prince had gone earlier. Her face grew serious. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. After hesitating for a moment, she finally nodded.
"I'll join you," she said, trying to sound confident. "At the moment, I'm without a group."
With those words, she sighed again. Despite her sour mood, she made an effort to maintain her composure. Angelica understood that Leon had become an important figure lately and wanted to make a good impression on him.
Leon was delighted by her response. A warm smile lit up his face.
"Great! Follow me. I've found an amazing spot in the dungeon that I think you'll enjoy."
Leon quickly moved forward, gesturing for them to follow. Angelica and Olivia exchanged glances, clearly trying to decipher his intentions. Their expressions were a mix of confusion and curiosity, but intrigued by the mystery of his confidence, they hurried after him.
After ten minutes, they stopped in front of what seemed to be an ordinary stone wall deep within the dungeon. Just as the girls began to look around and ask questions, Leon interrupted their speculation with a grin:
"Now, cover your ears and close your eyes."
Angelica and Olivia exchanged puzzled glances, hesitating to follow his instructions. Seeing their confusion, Leon elaborated, pointing to the massive wall:
"Behind this wall lies a secret part of the dungeon. To open it, I'll need to use magic. The sound of the spell will be quite loud, which might hurt your ears, and the explosion will cause a cloud of dust, which will make you instinctively shut your eyes anyway."
"A secret part of the dungeon?" the girls said in unison, though their tones were noticeably different.
Olivia, who wasn't particularly familiar with the nuances of an adventurer's life, said it with mild confusion. Her voice carried a note of uncertainty, as if she didn't entirely grasp what was being discussed.
Angelica, on the other hand, could barely contain her excitement. Her eyes lit up, and the stern demeanor she was trying to maintain began to fade. Thoughts of awe raced through her mind: "A secret dungeon? This is every adventurer's dream! Discovering something like this is an incredible achievement!"
Overcoming her inner excitement, Angelica managed to ask, trying to maintain a calm appearance:
"Leon, how did you know about this?"
Leon hesitated briefly but quickly regained his composure. He already had a prepared explanation. In truth, the secret part of the dungeon had been discovered by Luxion, his loyal artificial assistant. Leon had sent him ahead to scout the area, and Luxion had stumbled upon the hidden passage. However, Leon wasn't about to share the real story. Instead, he answered with a casual smile:
"I've been here before and accidentally discovered that something unusual lies behind this wall."
His tone was so confident that the girls had no reason to doubt his words.
Angelica glanced at the wall again, her gaze burning with the thrill of adventure. Even Olivia, despite her mild confusion, was now intrigued.
"Well, in that case, I'll cover my ears," Olivia said with a shrug.
"So will I," Angelica added, no longer suppressing a faint smile.
Leon waited until they were ready, and once he was sure the girls were following his instructions, he positioned himself in front of the wall. His hands began to glow faintly with magical energy as he prepared to strike, confidently declaring:
"All right then, brace yourselves!"
