Multiversal Selection 2 My Hero Academia Inazuma

Chapter 91: Chapter 90 I’m Back

"Damn, that's too much."

Inazuma could only imagine how worried everyone must have been after he disappeared from this world for almost a month. Since they had no idea where he was, he wouldn't be surprised if some had even considered holding a funeral for him.

However, revealing that one of the strongest heroes had died would likely spur the underworld and villains into unleashing chaos across Japan. That was why Nezu, and the others would have held back from making such an announcement. Besides, even if they did declare him dead, he knew they would never stop searching for him until they had undeniable proof—his intact or mutilated body. And he didn't even want to think about the other grim possibilities.

His gaze shifted to the building he had nearly crashed into. The upper part was covered by a large tent, which confused him for a moment. Construction on the island was typically done outside before being brought in for assembly. There were designated centers for that process outside the island, and with their advanced technology, it should only take a few hours to assemble an entire building, excluding shipping time. Plus, the process was virtually dust-free, meaning there was no need for any tents.

Looking closer, he realized it was the same building where he had fought Wolfram and disappeared that day. Things started to click in his mind, and he immediately sprinted toward the top of the building, where he expected to find the most important woman in his life.

Within milliseconds, he reached the rooftop and took in the sight before him. The entire area was filled with machines—some incomplete, as if their completion no longer mattered, and others seemingly destroyed, their remains suggesting they had exploded from the inside. Upon closer inspection, he noticed that these machines bore similarities to the one Wolfram had used to access the Speed Force.

He could guess why there were so many waste parts. David must have used his original plans on creating these, but they would not work.

The Speed Force was a living, fundamental force of the universe, yet it existed outside of it. Inazuma's quirk was the bridge connecting the Speed Force to this world—he was its anchor. The moment he left, any machine attempting to tap into that energy would have been rendered useless.

From what he could gather, everyone had likely tried to recreate the Speed Force machine in an attempt to replicate the circumstances of his disappearance or maybe create similar circumstances to how Melissa was able to acquire the quirk, they must have figured that having another speedster will help them to find me or help deal with the problems that will arise with my disappearance. But instead of channelling the Speed Force, they had probably funnelled volatile compositions of electromagnetic or weak nuclear energies, the fundamental energies of the universe into the devices, causing them to explode.

As he walked further in, the sound of metal clanking repeatedly caught his attention. He turned toward the noise and slowly approached, a strong feeling in his gut telling him exactly who he would find.

Inside, he saw a woman in a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, rushing back and forth across the room, grabbing parts from different areas. She was assembling something, but the more she tried to put it together, the more it fell apart. Frustrated, she kept replacing parts, glancing at her laptop, frowning, and discarding components she had just picked up moments ago.

Inazuma watched Clara as she frantically worked, constructing multiple machines at once. Her face was smudged with grease, but that did little to hide the dark circles beneath her eyes, a clear sign of exhaustion. She was thinner than before, her skin paler, her frame visibly malnourished. Even her clothes that she wore did not seem like it was washed for days. The grime and other stains of mechanical fluids shows that she had not even tried to do anything other than work for a long time.

Then, suddenly, she turned—and saw him.

For a moment, she froze but then shook her head and simply resumed her work, muttering under her breath.

"Damn hallucinations took the pills for that, and they still won't stop. I don't accept that you're dead, alright? I know you're alive, and I'm going to find you, so don't say anything else like every time you do when you appear."

She turned her back on him, continuing to type furiously on her laptop.

Inazuma slowly walked up behind her as she kept muttering.

"No comments this time. No telling me it's worthless or that you're gone for good."

She kept mumbling until he softly wrapped his arms around her from behind.

She froze instantly.

No matter how tired or sleep-deprived she was, she knew for a fact that hallucinations didn't provide a sense of touch. She had tested that theory countless times, and the result had always been disappointingly same.

Slowly, she turned around, trembling slightly. Her eyes scanned him with intensity as her hands reached out, touching his arms, neck, and shoulders—checking, confirming. The longer she was getting more and more reasons that she was real, exhaustion began to seep in slowly.

But this time, it wasn't because of helplessness or failure.

It was relief.

The person she loved had come back.

She hugged him tightly, as if afraid he would disappear again.

"You're back."

"Yeah, I am," he replied gently.

"What took you so long?"

"Got held up a bit." He rubbed her back soothingly, trying to calm her.

"We never lost hope, even though nothing worked."

"I know you wouldn't."

"Eri was worried. She was always here… I put her to sleep half an hour ago."

For a few minutes, they simply talked—just to hear each other's voices, just to reassure themselves that this was real. That he was real.

Finally, Clara looked up at Inazuma's face.

Then, she pulled him in for a kiss.
