Mushoku Tensei: Silvia of the Dragon Tribe

Chapter 6: Chapter 6. The First Path to Magic

Part 1

I remember I just found out that my brother is a reincarnator like me. It was a thrilling discovery. At least I have a fellow reincarnator right beside me.

After that night, we spend some time together to get to know each other beginning from the morning after. At first, there's nothing much I gained from the conversation.

However, we begin to be more relaxed and a lot closer as time goes on. And after that, we begin to share our stories to each other.

It's quite enlightening I might say.

My brother was bullied in his past life.

Yeah, that's also why he was so afraid of outside. The outside world is very scary to him. Apparently, whenever he gazes outside, he will be reminded of that dreadful day.

As for what is that dreadful day, I don't know. Rudeus isn't willing to share it yet. And I won't press any further. For now, I will just let it be. I won't force him to reveal it yet.

I will just observe and provide him company.

I honestly will never understand bullying. What's the purpose of such thing? Why dies it even exist?

The need to oppress someone.... for what? To feel superior? To feel something? To compensate? To vent pn something because life is stressing to one self? Even if you have your own problem that still doesn't justify your actions!

But, that fear definitely will effect his life, his second life. Whatever it is, it's most definitely not something good.

Maybe...I can help him overcome it, and curing him from his perverseness along the way.

Yeah, maybe I can do that.

"So Armored Dragon King, Lord Perugius, to battle the Demon God, he summoned his 12 servants...."

While I'm thinking all that, Lilia reads me some story. Story about Perugius, his twelve servants, 7 heroes, and their battle against Demon God.

It is quite epic, honestly. The story of heroes defeating a big bad guy....I guess no matter the world that kind of story will always present.

Though, there are somethings that intrigued me. The existence of Demon God, then Dragon race, about summoning magic....I kinda curious about all of that.

I wonder if God here is the real devine figure or just a fancy title? And the summoning magic...maybe I should try to learn it. Who knows what kind of creatire I will summon. A magical beast? A spirit?

Llia is reading all of that with serene expression. Her gaze focuses on the book, seemingly immersed in the story. I wonder if she forgets that she's reading it for me not for herself?

I want to interrupt her a bit, to joke about it. But, instead, I get distracted by her expression, her face. Serene, soft.....and beautiful.

I may not have any hormone yet to be attracted to any gender, but as someone who experience another life to adulthood, I know she's a beauty. And her glasses just add more charm on her.

I know some people in my past life have a thing for handsome or beautiful people with glasses. Some white cat--fox even made a long narration just to express her appreciation for it in my past life.

"And that's how the Seven Heroes defeated the Demon God, bringing peace to the whole world."

"Woah, is that story real?"

Lilia only stares at me softly. Her smile widens a little, before she finally answers.

"It's real, young miss. All of it is real."

"Really?"

"Really. If you're lucky, you might even witness Chaos Breaker castle floating in the sky."

Wait, really? I might even witness the proof of the legend itself someday?

Okay, I have clearly underestimated the fantasy-ness of this world.

Unlike some legends and myths in my past life that are created to make sense something unexplainable in the past or just to scare some naughty kids, legends and myths here are based on real stories.

Pretty cool not gonna lie.

Part 2

Some time has passed. Before I know it, half a year has passed. That much time has passed. During that time, I also grow taller, maybe by a few centimeters. My hair also grow longer.

My brother too, he now is taller than before. Taller than me even. But unlike me who keep my hair grow, he on the other hand keeps his hair short.

Well, that's partly because Zenith and Paul. They both will occasionally cit Rudeus hair short, while making ne keep my hair long. Zenith will even sometimes tend to my hair, keeping them shiny and healthy.

But that's not the only change. There's something changed about us....well, something we learned. Not something visible, but its impact is immense.

We finally can read!

How, you ask? Well, I mostly ask Zenith, Paul or Lilia to read me several books, and they must face tge book to me. And they must read them while pointing at words one by one. And it seems that Rudeus is mimicking me.

Not just that, I and Rudeus sometimes hold a private meeting just the two of us. There, we will teach other, train ourselves together, and correct each other error.

And in just half a year, we finally can read with no problem!

This....this is our major advancement! Major step! Towards greatness! Finally!

With this,we can finally read that magic book, grimoire, or whatever it is called!

Maybe I can learn fireball or something? Control ice? Summoning just like the legendary Perugius?

Will I become a mad wizard--witch casting fireball at any occasion without thinking?

"Silvia? You seem happy."

"Eh, mother?"

When thinking some silly thing, Zenith suddenly comes to my field of view. She seems to notice my mood instantly.

"What's up dear? Lilia promises you something? Hm?"

Well, no. Nothing like that? I don't know how to explain it. Should I say I'm happy because I finally can read properly?

No, that will sound strange. No baby will feel that way.

Well, Zenith asks me with smile on her face. She seems to be in good mood herself. Maybe there's no need for me to worry. No need for me to answer her seriously. Maybe just half jokingly?

"Nothing, mother. Just...my heart tells me to be happy?"

Zenith blinks her eyes several times at my answer. The right corner of her lips twitches slightly.

"Uh huh. Whatever you say honey."

She just shakes her head, and proceeds to continue whatever she's doing, that is, tending some small flowers. It's still morning. The warm, not so hot sunlight fall upon her figure. A happy expression can be seen from the blonde woman.

"Mother, can I help?"

Part 3

Silently, I made my way to the second floor. To the storeroom where the books located.

I made sure Zenith and other to not notice where I'm heading. Rudeus said that we better keep it secret from other. He reasons that if we're found out the adult may prohibit us from learning anything from the book. I honestly think that this may not be the best idea. However, thinking about it, I probably can handle it just fine. I will just be careful with the magic.

We're all adult at heart, so it will be fine....probably.

And so, we plan to learn it secretly. We will monitor each other, and protect each other in case some mishap.

I finally arrive in front of room, facing the door. The door of the room is ajar, signaling that someone is already here.

Yeah, looks like someone is more eager than me.

Creaking, the door is opened a bit more as I apply some strength on it. Inside, Rudeus--Rudy is currently reading the book, the grimoire.

"Rudy."

"Sis?"

As I greet him, I approache him slowly. I look at the book laying in front of him. Seeing that the book is only opened at second page, it looks like that he hasn't read far and only started a moment ago.

Or maybe he's just reading it very carefully, making the process much slower?

"Anything interesting? It's a grimoire, right? It's not sone boring cooking recipes, is it?"

As he heard my question, his face brightens a bit. A smile tugged his lips.

"Heh. No, it's a genuine magic book! It's a real one! Just read it yourself!"

"Oho? Okay okay."

I sit beside him, my hand reaches out to the book dragging it to me. I open back the first page, making sure to not miss a single page ir anything. As I read through, my face gradually change. From curious, stunned, to outright amazement.

Magic history, its origin, the working behind it, and many more.

About how magic is rumored to be originated from high elves in the past, how thay made a contract with spirit to gain power to defeat their enemies, how today's maguc is just humans' attempt at imitating it...

And also how it works. Like the chanting, its purpose, the effects of them. It's quite solid guide. I think.

"You're right, brother. This is a guide book for magic! Specifically for the beginners, like us!"

My happiness right now is off the roof. I can't contain my excitement, my eyes practically brighten with stars in it!

Rudy only smiles at my behavior. Well, even if he stays calm right now, I can still sense excitement bubling inside him.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's read!"

And like that, we begin our study in magic.

Part 4

We begin our learning that day. And since then, we will come to that room everyday. To learn, to train, to assess our potential.

It's quite enlightening if I do say so.

In magic, you need to chant the spell and concentrate while doing so. After chanting, warmness spread across our bodies, which I believe to be mana coursing in our vein. After that, the desired effect will take place, like water ball, earth formation, to fire ball--though we of course don't practice fureball at all in fear of setting the house in fire.

It is also said that mana capacity is fixed upon birth. One can't increase their mana capacity no matter how hard they tried. If they're fated to yave low mana, their capacity will always remain tge same, even after being veteran.

However, despite all if those statements, we quickly discover something peculiar. Some of the theories are proven incorrect! Proved by us!

"Eh?"

Even befire chanting,a ball of water managed to form, floating near my hand. Seems like chanting isn't mandatory? Maybe it's just there to help mages to imagine what kind of nagic they want to use?

Rudeus also tries the same, which came up successfully. Though, it spells disaster to him. He ended up soaking his pant. He tries to retry doing it again, but he suddenly fell unconscious. Checking, he just fell asleep.

Exhausted?

I fell unconscious too, but after couple more tries.

When we wake up, Rudeus is mistaken to be soiling himself, which is pretty funny to see. Someone with spirit of a grown adult, mistaken to soil himself in his sleep.

After that, we still continues our training. And we discover other thing, like the mana capacity.

Seems like that theory in the book is also false. About the mana capacity is determined sonce birth. We discover we can expand our capacity as long as we keep training.

What kind of author, or expert, who falsely believe in something incorrect, and then spread it to the world? Just this expert? Book? Or the whole?

Is this the common believe in this world?

Huh.

No need to stress about it too much, I guess. Maybe we can spread the correct theory later? Or keep it to ourselves?

Wait, yeah, no need to stress about it too much for now. Focus, me.

Well, maube it's because we're very young. Maybe only children have that advantage and their mana capacity will stagnate after reaching certain age. And most people don't bother teaching their children since childhood, opted to teach them when they are teenage or even adult.

Yeah, maybe because it.

Anyway, we keep training ourselves everyday. Mostly, we train to increase our mana capacity. And we use mostly water ball, because it's the safest and the easiest one to clean up.

And like that, another half a year has passed. Half a year full of training. Pretty peaceful, albeit quire eventful. That is, until Rudy suggested to level up a bit, learning magic one level higher.
