Chapter 7: Chapter 7. How We Got a Magic Tutor
Part 1
Days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. Well, suffice to say that sometime has passed.
There's nothing changed during that time...well, at least on the outside. Nothing changes much, no significant height growth, no suddenly getting fat, nothing extreme in appearance.
But, magically? Well, now that's something quite significant.
Particularly, our mana reserves and our magic capability.
In the past where our mana reserves were miniscule, now our mana reserves are enormous. Well, I think.
We used to only be able to cast water balls for a couple dozen or so, until we get tired or unable to cast anymore to straight up fall asleep. But now, we can cast hundreds of them simultaneously without getting tired at all.
During the training to increase our reserves, we will use some buckets as well as a few rags in case we dirty the floor. And when the buckets are full, we will throw the water below.
It's quite funny though seeing Paul once gets wet from the water Rudy accidentally dumped on him.
Well, because of those training, we grow as mage. However, there's still something that baffles me a bit. It seems that Rudy's reserve is even more ridiculous than mine.
Don't get me wrong. I still think my reserve is still quite enormous. I can probably fill hundreds of buckets with no problem. But, Rudy, on the other hand, seems to be able to fill even more buckets than me.
Though, it's quite strange. I'm sure my mana reserve was higher than his initially. When We test for the first time, he quickly collapsed on the ground, while I could still go a bit more before collapsing too.
"Huh..."
Walking to the window carrying a bucket, I glanced at the ground below and its surroundings. I glance around, making sure no one is below nor anyone notice me, I dump the water in the bucket. A small puddle can be seen on the spot where I dumped the water.
It's still morning. Birds are chirping, the sun hasn't gotten too high in the sky, and the wind is still a bit cold. Some kind of flying animals occasionally pass the sky, some kind of.... rabbit with its ears very long which it uses to fly?
On the ground, Lila is tending the flowers, and, interestingly, Zenith is helping her, pruning some branches of flowers and trees. Meanwhile Paul is currently training, constantly swinging his sword rhythmically. Training his powerful swing? To keep his body in shape?
"Kyaah!"
Nevermind. Seeing some girls in the neighborhood, I can only shake my head hopelessly.
Suddenly, I got an amazing idea. A mischievous one.
Gathering my courage, with an excited smile, I direct my hands forward. With a little bit of concentration, I will my mana to my hands, and, with a push, I form a water ball and make it floating. And with a bit of imaginary push in my head, I make it hurling to the outside...to Paul's head.
Splash!
"Huh?!"
With a giggle, I quickly hide under the window, hoping he will not notice me.
Paul, should you show off to other women when you already have a wife?
Bored and lost interest in what's happening on the outside, I direct my gaze to the inside, looking at what's happening in the storeroom. A lot of buckets, a book laying on the floor, and Rudeus who's constantly shooting water balls to one of the buckets. Not too focused, just playfully, and I can see that he's a bit bored.
Yeah, when someone is not doing anything other than shooting water balls during magic training, and doing it for months...
Yeah, anyone can get bored of it, pretty easily too. And we have done it for at least half an hour by now.
Though, it's not completely pointless. I'm sure our mana reserves are constantly expanding, no matter how insignificant it is, how small it is.
"Bored?"
"You bet I am!"
Pouting, he shoots some more water balls to another bucket, quickly filling it out. He keeps shooting until it is overflowing and splashing to the floor.
"Stop! Now you soiled the floor, dry it out yourself with a rag."
"Alright alright."
Getting up, he grabs the rag and quickly rubs the floor with it.
"Hey, sis. Don't you think this is a bit boring? Constantly training the same magic again and again."
"Well, true."
"Right? Just splashing water."
I shake my head. What he said is true. No variety, no challenge, just water ball.
"Then what? Tell our mother to teach us something new?"
"No. No need."
He appears to think something quite deeply. Scratching his little head, he seems lost...until his face brightens up a bit. A metaphorical light bulb can be imagined appearing near his head.
He doesn't say anything. Instead, he just approaches the book and flips its pages. He keeps flipping until he seemingly gets what he wants and stop.
"Let's learn this!"
"Learn what?"
I approach him and peer inside the book. It is about an intermediate attack magic, a water spell water cannon.
"Learn this? This can be dangerous, you know?!"
"It will be alright! Don't worry! We can do it! Beside, we have amazing parents. If we encounter a problem, we can just scream for help!"
We bantered for a while. I argue that it might still be dangerous. I have a feeling that this spell isn't as simple as it sounds. And it might endanger us somehow.
But Rudy is stubborn. He seems to be quite confident and believes even if we do something wrong, Zenith and Paul will come to save us.
And finally, I relent and let him test it. Though, I make sure to not be near him, distancing myself far away from him.
Making sure to direct the spell to the window, to the outside, he readies himself. And with a large intake of air, he begins to chant.
"Supple spirit of water and princess of streams that flow through the earth..."
Moisture begins to accumulate around him. A small swirl of water forms in front of him.
"Sweep away all things with your hidden inner might..."
He is too engrossed in his chanting, not realizing a very large amount of water has gathered. It's too large, too much water for a simple spell performed inside a room.
INSIDE A ROOM.
But before I interrupt, he completes the spell quickly. I'm not even sure I can interrupt him at all safely to begin with.
"Water cannon....?!"
At last, he notices it, but it's too late as the water cannon slams to the wall and shatters it completely.
BRRRUAAKK!
A large chunk of wall is taken, along with the window and everything around it. And the water keeps shooting throughout the sky. It even pours drop upon drop of water to the ground, seemingly creating a localized rain, before it eventually runs out of water and disappears in the horizon.
Everyone is going to notice this. Our parents, the villagers, everyone.
I and Rudeus, especially Rudeus, stare at the wall, or at least what remained of it, wide-eyed.
FUCK!
That's it! If Rudeus becomes stubborn in the future, I will be even more stubborn to stop him from doing anything reckless. I will even hit him if necessary!
"W-what has happened?!"
"Rudy! Silvia!"
"Young miss! Young master!
All three distinct voices can be heard from behind. And true enough, three people are already behind us, seemingly in a hurry and clearly panicked.
"Huh?! What's happened here? Monster?"
While Paul inspects the surroundings, Zenith and Lilia come to us to check our condition. They're clearly worried about us, checking every corner of our bodies and inspecting anything hidden in the room.
However, Zenith's gaze is drawn to the book laing beside us. And after inspecting it a bit, she smiles very widely at us.
Uh....are we going to get punished?
"Rudy... Sylvia...did you read this book?"
Okay, maybe we will get punished. Rudeus is sweating heavily beside me, clearly nervous too.
"Yes...with Sylvia...."
"We're sorry..."
But the next thing that happened isn't something we all expect.
"Kyaah! Look dear! Both of them are geniuses!"
"Huh really?!"
Zenith is happy, very happy, muttering that we're prodigy, and must be taught magic as soon. She even suggested hiring a tutor just to teach us.
They're...not mad? They're happy even. I can only sigh in relief. At least we're not going to get punished. We're going to get a personal tutor to train us in magic even. Even Rudeus is very relieved and a bit happy too.
"B-but you already promised if we have a boy we will teach him swordsmanship! And I already promised Sylvia to teach her magic too!"
"But they're clearly talented in magic! We can't ignore it!"
"B-but..."
However, it seems they are in some disagreement. Zenith wants us to learn magic, but Paul already has a plan to teach us swordsmanship. It quickly becomes a bit of a heated argument. Rudeus too, can only stare blankly at them.
However, Lilia suggests an alternative amidst the argument. She states that they can teach us magic in the morning, and swordsmanship in the evening. And they quickly calmed down by it.
"Dear, we shouldn't argue in front of children!"
"True! Let's not set a bad example for them!"
Nice, Lilia! I know you're capable! You're a saviour!Maybe I can treat you to something in the future!
Part 2
After all that debacles, Zenith and Paul decide to hire a tutor. They do it by making several posters and attach them to some important and strategic places. Paul also contacts some of his friends to spread the news that he's hiring a magic tutor to teach his children, Rudeus and me.
All of us can only hope that we can quickly get a magic tutor. Because we're living in a village, we expect that it will take a long time to get one. However, Lilia assures us that it shouldn't take no more than three months to get one.
However, forget about three months. It's only been a week and we finally get one! Just a week! What kind of magic tutor will we get? A wise, ancient magician of the far past? A majestic figure brimming with power?
Well, there is another surprise for us. Instead of a wrinkled old man, we get a seemingly teenage girl who's probably in her middle school year if we're still on earth.
Blue hair.
Shy attitude.
Cute face.
Witch hat.
Well....simply a cute and interesting individual to look at.
"You..."
"You look small!"
Paul clearly wants to say something. But before he can complete his sentence beyond 'you', Rudy cuts in, saying she's small, which the blue haired mage doesn't appear to appreciate a single bit at all.
"You should look in the mirror, boy. "
Rudy can only smile a bit at that. All the while, I keep looking at the girl. If I think about it, a blue haired person is rather strange. Did she dye it? It's not natural, is it?
"Blue hair..."
At my remark, the girl just redirects her gaze at me ans just smiles.
"My name is Roxy Migurdia, saint ranked mage. Well... where's the one I should teach? Ma'am, sir?"
Does she think the children are clearly not the candidates to be her disciple? Well, we're not yet 4 years old, so it's understandable.
"Your disciples are right here, miss Roxy. These two children of mine!"
Zenith answers her question with a smile. And miss Roxy seems to be flabbergasted at that, and just sighing at that.
We also hear a remark saying that it's just because some parents just place too much expectation on their children. Parents who think too highly of their children, or something like that.
"Miss Roxy? What you just say?"
"Ah, no. I'm just muttering to myself."
"No need to worry. Our children are prodigious! I'm sure they will surprise you!"
Zenith keeps pressuring her, telling us we will exceed her expectations. That we're not what she thinks we are.
"Alright, I will do my best. I guess."
With that, she just sighs and accepts us as her disciple.
