Chapter 8: Chapter 8. First Step Learning Under a Teacher
Well, here's the chapter 8. Well, for this chapter, I tried 3rd pov, particularly limited third pov where narrator isn't an all knowing entity. And it's not the best imo. I probably can do better if it's my first language, based on bunch of fics I have in my GDrive that I left to rot there. So forgive me lol. I always try to be a bit poetic if it's 3rd pov, but as I said, it's English, not my first language. Heck, English isn't even my second language, it's my third hehe.
Also, maybe, from now on for first pov it will always our dear protagonist, everyone else is third pov, well, limited third pov.

Part 1
Life wasn't always easy. It was full of ups and downs, happiness and misery. Sometimes you would feel lucky, while unlucky another time.
Dice, fate loved that term, that game, playing with someone, deciding what to do with them by playing dice.
That was what happened to Roxy Migurdia, a defect among her family, her tribe. What was not normal in other parts of the world, was normal in her village--homeland.
While another person enjoyed the mercy of the dice rolled by fate, she was not as lucky. Fate played a cruel joke on her life, right since her birth.
A place that she should be able to call home, had become a prison to her instead. A silent, isolating prison. Nothing to hear, only stare, gesture, concern, and sometimes headache.
Some people might feel special being born different. Something to be proud of, to flaunt, to brag about. But not her, especially not her.
Because what's in other places considered as special, wasn't so special in her tribe. Everyone had it, everyone could do it.
But not her.
She was a defective, a disabled among her tribe. She couldn't do what others in her tribe could do. She couldn't hear them, she couldn't hear anything at all. She couldn't do what others called telepathy.
Whenever they tried to talk to her, all she received was a wave of searing pain and nauseating headache. She tried to stop them, yell at them. But all she got was concerned looks and more headache, more searing pain. They couldn't understand her, not a bit.
She remembered that she once wandered outside, wanting to play with others. But, alas, she was foolish. All she received was silent, their talks were silent to her, before it all crashed down to her, causing her excruciating pain.
At that moment, she realized.
She was deaf.
She was a defect.
She was....a disabled among her tribe.
Her parents tried to help her, to save her, to become her beacon in that isolating village. But, it's no use. No use for her, the foolish daughter of theirs, Roxy Migurdia.
That was why she left.
To get away from that isolating prison.
And...to rid a defect and deadweight in her family.
She's sure mom and dad would eventually be glad she's not in the village anymore soon.
With a sigh, she directed her gaze to her surroundings, to the people around her. Many people, young and old, were working earnestly on the field. Tending to their farm, their rice fields, or just passing by, to go somewhere to do what god knows.
A few of them were talking, few others even greeted her. Greeted her with their voices, voices could clearly be heard with her ears.
Real voice.
With her ears.
Not a silent one, that would only cause her searing pain.
It was relieving.
Liberating.
Living among other races or other demon tribes, had made her feel welcomed, liberated, not isolated. The feeling that she sought for so long. Now she enjoyed them for years in human realm.
No need to yell to stop, no need to clutch her head, no need to feel pain. Just talking, greeting, all kinds of pleasantries, with their mouths moving, forming words, forming voices. Voices that could be heard with her ears.
Compared to her village, her homeland, here's heaven. A sanctuary for her, for the peace of her mind.
And with all of that in mind, she stepped forward into her prospective new job. To teach some kids magic, to show them her capability. And to get herself money she needed.
Part 2
Buena village, a peaceful village in Fittoa region, ruled by Sauros of Notos Greyrat noble family. A village that's mostly strived in agriculture.
Farm, gardens, rice fields, among other things. Unremarkable, nothing to note. Except, that one of the residents was a family led by exceptional swordsman, with both the husband and wife were formerly S-rank adventurers.
And that family was the one to hire her, supposedly. The promised pay was good, too good even for a family in a simple village.
And now, she stood in front of the door, the door of the house that the family resided in.
A door was opened, revealing a man which she suspected as the rumored swordsman, and following him, was two women of which one of them wore a maid outfit. The woman whom she suspected as the wife of the man in front of her, was carrying a child no older than three years old. And, right beside her, was a child with the most striking physical appearance among all of them.
White hair, white skin glistening under sunlight, and golden eyes that seemed to glow. And, there's something resting around her shoulders. Parts of the outfit?
Well, ignoring the little girl, all of the family members looked normal, if not for their gestures and manners befitting of veteran adventures. They looked relaxed, but she couldn't mistake their inspecting gazes and alerted manners of the man of the house.
The man of the house wanted to say something, but his son beat him to it, telling her to be small. And she didn't appreciate it, not a single one.
"You should look in the mirror boy."
She just shook her head a little at that. Just a kid, nothing to worry about. Kid that didn't know any better, just like herself back in the village.
The little girl, instead, focused on different parts of her body entirely. Her hair, the color of it.
Oh, is it the first time she saw a demon? She thought, smiling slightly.
You should go to the Demon continent, little girl.
Actually, where's the one she is supposed to teach? There's no one besides them. Was it one of the adults here? Unusual, as most people would try to learn magic at a young age, maybe in their teenage years.
And so,she proceeded to ask them about it. And the answer....wasn't something she was expecting.
The two kids, the cute little ones, she was supposed to teach them magic, to take them as her disciples.
Seriously? These kids?
They might be cute, but teaching them magic? This young?
Facing this, she's muttering something that she shouldn't say. They're her employers, the ones who are going to give her money.
"No need to worry. Our children are prodigious! I'm sure they will surprise you!"
Well, it looked like she couldn't refuse at all. She didn't dare, for she might lose the chance to get a job. Maybe she would just do her best imparting her knowledge to these kids.
"Alright, I will do my best. I guess."
Part 3
"Magic is divided into three categories: attack magic, healing magic, and summoning magic..."
In the yard, Roxy began teaching magic to the children. In the morning, with the two children sitting on chairs, one was carefree and relaxed, while the other was nervous and restless.
Roxy couldn't exactly understand the reason behind the boy's restlessness, the boy even seemed to not like the outside, preferring to learn in the inside of the house. Of course, she still dragged him, along with his sister, to learn outside. Magic was dangerous, not wise to learn it inside a cramped room.
But the boy seemed to not understand, which is understandable for a child.
"Each one is divided into several ranks. Beginner, intermediate, advanced, saint, king, emperor, and finally god, which is seven ranks in total." She explained while moving back and forth. "And to cast one spell, we need to use magic power as well as saying the spell out loud...."
Honestly, she wasn't sure if these two kids could understand her. Maybe they could, maybe they couldn't. She wasn't keen on teaching kids this young magic.
But money was money, and she sure needed it so bad.
"To demonstrate it, I will cast a spell for a water ball. You shall imitate it after I cast it okay..." But before she said a word, the kids interrupted her.
"Do we really need to cast a spell?"
"Yeah, teacher. Do we really need to?"
At that, Roxy could only sigh in exasperation.
They're kids, Roxy. She thought.
"Of course, we need to. If we don't, how can we perform magic?"
And so, she proceeded to perform it in front of the kids, to demonstrate how magic works.
Busss! Brakk!
The water ball was shot at high velocity, hitting a tree and made it fall.
A perfect demonstration, she thought.
Turning to the kids, she wanted to see their reaction. She wanted to show them the gravity of learning magic, that magic is awesome, and shouldn't be treated lightly.
But....
"Teacher....that tree is meticulously tended and taken care of by our mother..."
And she panicked, and with a hurry, she quickly came to the tree and castec a healing spell on it, restoring it to its prine. She even made it grow and bloom flowers.
After that, she quickly ordered the kids to perform the magic, which they gladly performed one by one.
But, when the wind was blowing, an unusual thing happened. When the wind blew, that boy...
"Did you just shorten it....?"
"Eh," he muttered under his breath, before proceeding to answer. "Yes..."
Are they.....really geniuses after all? Did they...already know about magic beforehand, and just went along with her?
"How do you perform magic usually...?"
"Um, teacher." This time, the unusual girl was the one to answer her. "We do it...chantlessly?"
"Chantlessly?!"
So that's how it was. They were truly geniuses, prodigious children. To be able to perform magic this young, and chantlessly too.
"Is that so...maybe teaching them is really worth a try after all...."
But, the moment of wonder didn't last long. With a yelp, followed by a loud snapping sound, a tree fell to the ground.
"Miss Roxy, can you not use my tree as a practice dummy?!"
The lady of the house was mad at her.
She didn't screw up, right?
Part 4
Did my brother just get distracted by the blowing wind that accidentally exposed Miss Roxy's underwear?
Sigh.
I guess, it's not surprising coming from my perverted brother. No use thinking deeply about it.
Well, now though, we just exposed ourselves to miss Roxy, making her aware that we can perform magic chantlessly.
So doing magic chantlessly is really an impressive feat eh?
Well, there's a rather hilarious accident following our reveal though.
Well, good thing Miss Roxy didn't get fired immediately after that.
After that, at night, our family decided to throw a party to celebrate miss Roxy becoming our teacher. Rudeus and I are also tokd by Paul about our sword training starting tomorrow.
After that, it's decided that Miss Roxy will sleep in a soare bedroom upstairs. And Lilia, Paul, and Zenith, with the help of miss Roxy, prepared the bedroom. The bedroom was messy, not being used for a long time.
I even offered help, but they all declined, saying that I should sit and read something, maybe the magic book together with Rudy.
Well, looks like we get a temporary household member eh?
