"...Eh?"
I look at the system, my face scrunched up in confusion as I stand in the void that seems to be my new home.
"Why do I have such a weird system? Everyone else gets some combat related system and I get...a riffing contest?"
"Does that mean that I have to get to people to battle through their voices instead of their fists? The fuck?"
"This isn't much compensation for purposely killing me in my last life! This is a fucking music system! How the hell am I supposed to survive with this?"
I grimace as I the vending machine that chased me down the street I lived on before finally jumping on top of me, starting my next big journey to a new life.
Slowly I clench my fists, a tear falling from my eyes as I remember something important.
"I died a virgin, and I didn't get the time to tell Sean to wipe my hard drive!"
"Fuck!"
I sigh, putting my hands to my head as I try to calm down and let this sink in.
'Let's see what we know.'
One: I have reincarnated into the DC universe, as my riff gate skill appears to be the only way out of here, I can only assume that I am in my riff space right now.
Two: As stated, I have a riff gate skill, it seems to be my only way in and out of here. I assume that this will be the place that I can live and am supposed to host the music battles.
Three: I have the skills of a standard singer, in other words, I can make a living off of music even outside of the contests that I hold here. That would be kind of fun.
Four: Missions, they are optional but are all tied to the purpose of the system. It seems I can get rewards and become stronger if I manage to complete them. At least they arn't suicide runs.
Five: The Bystander skill, it seems that, as long as I don't get actively involved in any conflict, I can not be harmed. This definitely makes up for not having any combat abilities but if I put on a Vigilante, Hero, or Villain costume, or rush to the scene of a crime with the intention to fight, then the skill will cancel.
Six: From the small experiments I just did while listing of these points I have also discovered that I have complete control over the environment of the Riff space as long as I have no intention to do harm.
For example, if I try to drop something on myself then the space doesn't respond, but if I try to make a small pit appear beneath me with a stack of pillows to cushion the fall then my alterations are accepted.
The same goes for if I try to create an entire colloseum or the riff-off pit from pitch perfect.
"Heh, Imagine if I got Uchiha Sasuke to sing against Naruto and his friends, or even against Itachi. Hahaha haha!"
'That would be a funny sight for sure. Hmm, I remember that Batman had a good voice, he sang to rescue Wonder Woman once. I wonder if Robin shares that quality. Hehe.'
"Alright, I think i understand. As a civilian I'll be a normal teen with a talent for music, maybe become well known in that area while I'm at it so that I can grow some influence.
Now, as for my system, I will make this place into a hotel with an attached theatre.
The theatre will be where the Riff-Offs happen, occasionally we'll also use the pit that I saw in a certain movie, Pitch Perfect, so as to get a little change of scenery.
From what I can see the system will give rewards to the winner and the host of each contest, so their is plenty of-
OH.MY.GOD. CONSTENTINE SINGING WITH FEMALE LUCIFER *cough* *cough* sorry, back to what I was saying.
There is plenty of motivation for participating in the contest so I don't have to worry about others signing up once they know the benefits.
The hotel will be a neutral space for people to come hang out, eat some food, have a few drinks and sleep over. No need to worry about fighting because of the Riff Space anti-violence function."
"Did I miss anything? I don't think that I did. Ok, let's take a look at the missions before I start developing this place."
[Missions]
1. Make the first two gate connections to the DC Universe.
Reward: Photographic Memory
2. Spread your music online.
Reward: Nightwing's Martial Arts,
3. Host your first contest.
Reward: Spell Weaver
This first one seems pretty easy, I can open the gate near one of the bars in both Jump City and Gotham for my first customers. After that I can do Central City and Metropolis.
For the second one I'm hoping that the Internet can breach my gates, hahaha, I can't survive without modern comfort. If not, I can always look into renting a studio and uploading the song at a computer cafe.
The third one is the hardest, I'll need to figure out how to convince the first batch of people that what I'm offering is real. If they don't believe the rewards are real then they probably won't participate...maybe I can get Harley Quinn and Cat woman to participate, maybe even Poison Ivy by extension.
Harley Quinn is pretty care free and wild, so she would probably be up for it, Catwoman is always lacking money despite being the best thief, and Ivy goes where Harley goes.
I need competition though, maybe I can get some hero's to participate as well. I know Beast Boy is a potentialy good dancer and Damian is even better, at least when it comes to Dance Dance Revolution. But I don't know if that's the current timeline...
"Wait a darn minute. Do I need to think about who to bring in? I can just put up posters about the hotel with a little section mentioning the contest.
Even if they don't believe in the prize they'll at least get curious, I can then go over it with them and convince them to give it a shot, maybe have a couple of them participate as a kind of karaoke night.
Yes, I can advertise it like karaoke, they can choose between a few environments for a riff-off and have a few battles there for fun with impartial judges to declare the winners.
Of course to start off with, I may have to be the lone judge, but as time goes on I can hire more live-in staff to help with judging contests and managing the hotel itself.
Ah, I love it when a plan comes together."
I look around the void, realising that I'm still standing in the pure white environment.
"OH, right. I need to start working."
Raising my hands, I picture a five star hotel with an elevator to floors each seperate by different worlds. The floors below will be for storage and other stuff.
In the main hall we will have a giant waiting room with tables for eating and drinking at, a kitchen attached for making any manual food.
I'll also add the reception desk, underneath the desk will be the dials:
The left dial will change the environment genre setting like fantasy, modern, horror, e.t.c.
The middle dial will change the terrain type like rocky mountains, grass lands, underwater, desert, e.t.c.
The right dial will be for choosing the contest location. By default I have that one set to The Pit, it just feels right.
Next to these dials I decided to add a reset button so that I can change everything back to how I first designed the environment, for after everyone's done or for when I just want to go back to basics.
The template that I have set is a grass lands with purple leaves, and a night sky with a constant Aurora.
Of course attached to the main hall is a door that automatically sends the person who walks through to the selected contest environment.
"Ok, that looks good. Now for for opening the gate."
