Chapter 118: Here Goes
Here Goes
They wasted no time in putting the idea into action.
While the area was primarily snow, the number of people and their myriad of abilities made it fairly simple to procure the materials they needed to create an effective binding tool.
That said, it wasn't done in a short time.
Even with everyone putting in their efforts, it took about a week to fully create the thing. Well, they assumed it was a week. The sun didn't move so it was hard to keep track of time.
Regardless, they managed to get it done, and now, the elite team that was meant to go one and battle the clone had been assembled.
The group had a total of 27 people, as each company leader was required to bring with them two capable soldiers who would be up to the task.
Titus had decided to bring the Oni woman who was his second in command as well as the Dragon under his command. Their names were Raya and Tristan respectively.
There were two other dragons, and they both worked under Zephyr, which wasn't very surprising, and the others had also brought on their own subordinates.
Each person had gotten the rest needed after creating the binding tool, so they were in their peak states.
There wasn't really a clear formation, just that the Dragons would be the ones to take the head and endure the most out of everyone there due to their superior physical ability.
Han and Curtis along with their subordinates pretty much played the role of tanks or defenders and were to do their best and stave off as many of the heavy attacks the clone dished out.
Aisha was essentially the coordinator and would use her ability to peer through fate to see when an attack was coming along with the movements the clone could take and how the group was meant to respond, and Felicia was in charge of creating distractions with her illusions and she was the one in charge of helping Titus get close.
The female Centaur who was the one that had created the earth platform where the army was stationed was meant to do her best to control Lenax while the Wolf Demihuman was to try and deal any sort of damage to the clone.
The group didn't bother trying to rehearse any complex movements since their opponent would shatter any complicated flow like that almost immediately, so they just got their roles in mind and made sure that they wouldn't get in each other's way.
"Is everyone ready?" Curtis asked and everyone just nodded.
And without another word, the group marched towards where their target was.
***
'That's a hole.' Titus thought as the group reached the entrance to the underground cavern, it was just a big hole that was a dozen meters across.
No one said anything, instead, they all jumped in.
The dragons who were currently in their human forms summoned their wings to allow themselves to float and the others used various means as well.
Titus simply surrounded his body with light and used it to support his weight, and after some time, the group touched the ground of the cavern.
The place was truly massive, the ceiling was half a kilometre above their heads and the walls three times that distance.
Moreover, it wasn't as dark as one would expect, instead, there was a dim blue light that seemed to glow from within the walls that was just enough for everyone to see without any aid.
The Dragons wasted no time and entered their true forms, and marched forward with everyone behind them.
Apparently, they had to move for a while before they found their target. And so they did just that.
The atmosphere was somber and no one said anything as they all prepared themselves to face the final boss of this gruelling expedition. This time, there would be no second chances. They either won, or they didn't.
Eventually, they reached their target.
And Titus felt it before he saw it.
A billowing and suffocating Aura permeated throughout the cavern. It had been mild at first, but it ramped up significantly the moment the group got close.
Lenax's clone had no intention of remaining low-key and waited for the invaders calmly.
'It's heavy.' Titus narrowed his eyes as he felt the Aura, but he took a deep breath and called himself.
'Still, it's nothing compared to the real thing.' With that thought, his resolve sharpened and he marched forward.
And then they finally saw him.
It stood in all its glory, the massive blue dragon. Its cold blue eyes stared down at them with absolutely no emotion.
Titus shuddered. And it wasn't from fear. Simply looking in its eyes caused his body to start feeling cold, and that's because it did.
'That must be the frost gaze they spoke about.' He realised and averted his gaze, and immediately the cold feeling subsided.
Instead, he looked to the very back of the cavern, and there it was, their objective.
It was a pale blue crystal about the size of a person, and it gave off an extremely potent frost Aura. It floated in the air quietly, but simply looking at it would let one know that it was extremely valuable. Still, Titus didn't stare at it for too long. After all, unless they defeated the clone, there was no way they were taking that thing. So he put it out of his mind for now.
Instead, he turned to his comrades. And everyone was tense, which wasn't surprising. And everyone was currently having a face-off with the Dragon. It hadn't attacked them yet, which was odd.
Then again, maybe it knew that they had no intention of retreating, so it was in no rush to kill them.
Seeing this, Titus took a deep breath and focused on his body. Or rather, something deeper than that. His soul.
His weapon, Veylthar, didn't speak much. Even when he actively tried to speak to it.
As such, he didn't have a lot of information from the blade. But he did have some. And that some was incredibly valuable.
It told him that he was chosen to be its wielder for two reasons.
The first one was that he didn't condone unfairness and picked justice above all. This made sense, considering that the weapon tried to unify the world after the main threat had been eradicated. Albeit in a very violent manner.
The second reason was something a lot more interesting.
'There is something exceedingly unique in your soul. Something that resonates with me, and everything else around it.' It was from Veylthar that Titus found out about a strange ability he possessed, one that existed within the depths of his soul.
He didn't know what it was called, after all, it was still dormant. However, after becoming aware of its existence, he could make use of it, even in its dormant state, and the dormant ability was already quite incredible, to say the least.
Titus exhaled, mist leaving his mouth due to the cold. Then a strange force left his body. Enjoy new tales from empire
It spread throughout the group and everyone looked at Titus in surprise, but before they could ask questions, they all noticed something shocking.
"This is...!" Curtis exclaimed as he observed his weapon, Nova, the chain had a slight shine to it, and it wasn't just that. Everyone's weapons and armour, and in Han's case, his entire body, had this slight shine.
But it wasn't just the shine that surprised them. No, it was the effects of it.
All their equipment experienced an overall enhancement from this shine. Blades became sharper, shields and armour more durable, and enchanted items more effective. And so on.
Even the dragons found their bodies strengthened. Their claws and teeth became sharper and their scales more durable.
Titus exhaled as he let out the skill. Whenever he used it, a faint feeling of euphoria traveled through his body, and he felt lighter, as though he was embracing a part of himself that he didn't know was there before. And that was the case.
He decided to call this skill 'Territory', and while inside his territory, all his allies would have their equipment experience an all round enhancement. Or if they used their bodies as their weapons, then those would be enhanced instead.
Moreover, the skill was quite flexible. For instance, Titus could increase the effective range of the skill, though past a certain point it would start to cost him energy to sustain.
He could also concentrate its effects on a single person or item to boost them to an incredible degree.
Lastly, he found out that he could interfere with the working of entire domains, though the effects weren't that obvious and served to protect him if he was caught in an enemy domain more than actually stop the domain function. Still, it was a nice addition. Plus, he could also lessen the effects of certain skills cast against him.
The moment he cast his Territory, he instantly felt Lenax's gaze on him, and the cold feeling returned. However, with his Territory active, it was made bearable.
"We should probably start soon." Aisha said with a bit of impatience.
Then she made a face.
"On second thought, everyone Jump!" And with that, the battle kicked off
