My Hero Academia: The Hidden Pulse

Chapter 3: Chapter 3: The Awakening

The world had always seemed still to Kairo, a place that functioned with a rhythmic certainty—like the clock ticking in the corner of his room, the soft rustling of his mother's sewing machine, or the gentle hum of his father's workshop. But over the past few days, something had been different, something subtle but undeniable. Kairo couldn't explain it, not in words. He felt it deep within him, a strange vibration coursing through his body like a whispering pulse, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker, but always there.

It started small. A slight tremble in his hands when he was holding his pencil at school. A flicker of energy that made the pages of his book ripple ever so slightly, like a breeze passing by. At first, he thought it was nothing. Just nerves, maybe, or something his mind had made up.

But then, one day, while playing with his friends at the park, the earth beneath his feet seemed to quiver in response to his presence. Kairo's breath caught as he watched the ground ripple—almost as if something invisible was pushing against it. His heart skipped a beat. It was the first time he felt it—a power that didn't belong to him, a force he couldn't control.

"Hey, Kairo!" his friend called out. "Are you okay?"

Kairo nodded quickly, trying to hide the unease building in his chest. "Yeah, I'm fine."

But deep down, he knew something was wrong. The vibrations were getting stronger, more frequent. At night, in the safety of his room, Kairo could feel the hum in his bones. He lay in bed, wide awake, staring at the ceiling. The sensation was like a low thrum, deep inside his chest, like the beating of his own heart was out of sync with everything else. The world felt different—unsettling and alive in a way that terrified him.

It wasn't until the following afternoon that Kairo truly realized the extent of what was happening.

He had been sitting in the living room, talking to his mom, Rika, when it occurred again—a sudden surge, this time stronger than before. The coffee table, with its thin wooden legs, began to shake. The glass of water on the table quivered, its surface rippling as if someone had brushed against it. Kairo froze.

"Mom…" Kairo whispered, his voice trembling.

Rika turned, her expression softening as she saw her son's alarmed face. "What's wrong, Kairo?"

The shaking intensified for a moment before it stopped. The glass stilled, and the room returned to silence. But the lingering feeling remained—an almost electric hum under his skin.

"I… I didn't do that," Kairo said quietly.

Rika looked at him, her face going from concern to confusion. "What do you mean?"

Kairo wasn't sure how to explain. It didn't make sense, not even to him. The vibrations were there, but how could he tell her something so unbelievable?

"I don't know," he whispered, shaking his head. "I felt something. Like a force... I didn't mean to—"

Before his words could form a coherent thought, Kairo felt it again—a pressure building within him, the same strange vibration, only stronger this time. The entire room seemed to hum along with him, like a tuning fork vibrating in the air. His mother's eyes widened as she realized what was happening.

"Okay, Kairo," she said softly, her voice steady. "We need to go see a doctor."

Kairo nodded, his heart racing. The weight of the situation began to sink in. This wasn't just nerves. This wasn't just stress. Something was happening to him

Kairo sat in the sterile, white-walled doctor's office, his fingers tapping nervously against his leg. His mother, Rika, sat beside him, holding his hand with a reassuring grip. They had arrived at the clinic not long after the incident, and Kairo's anxiety had only grown since. What if the doctor said he was sick? What if this was something that couldn't be fixed?

The door to the room opened, and a tall man with glasses and a lab coat stepped in. He gave them both a kind smile, though his eyes were sharp and observant. "Ah, Kairo, I've heard about you. Your mother called ahead, right? Let's see what's going on."

The doctor motioned for Kairo to sit on the examination table, and Kairo obeyed reluctantly. He wasn't sure what to expect. Was this going to be a simple check-up? Or was there something more serious at play?

The doctor attached a few sensors to Kairo's arms, and a machine beeped softly as it analyzed his body's vitals. For a few moments, there was only the quiet sound of the machine whirring.

"Now, Kairo," the doctor said, turning to him with a more serious tone. "Tell me what's been happening."

Kairo hesitated. The words were hard to form, even though he knew he needed to explain. "I… I feel something inside me. Like a vibration or energy. It's not painful, but it's constant. Sometimes it gets stronger, and I don't know how to stop it."

The doctor nodded, his expression thoughtful. "I see. Let's take a look at your readings."

Kairo looked at the screen as the doctor's fingers danced over the controls. The machine displayed various graphs and figures that Kairo didn't understand, but there was one thing that caught his attention: A series of waves, moving in sync with his heartbeat. The more he focused, the more he realized they were connected to him.

The doctor's eyes widened slightly as he studied the data. "Kairo, it seems you've just awakened your Quirk."

Kairo's heart skipped a beat. "A Quirk?"

"Yes. It's a rare type, but it appears your abilities are tied to vibrations—something like controlling energy through vibrations and force. It's like… the way sound waves vibrate through air, or how a tuned string vibrates when you pluck it. But in your case, it's far more powerful, and it seems to affect the physical world around you."

Kairo's mind raced. He had a Quirk? He had never even considered that possibility. The shock of the revelation hit him harder than anything else. A Quirk. But how was he supposed to control it? How was he supposed to live with this?

The doctor continued, "We'll need to conduct further tests, but I think we can begin training you to control it. The key will be focusing on the energy and learning to direct it. You need to stay calm, understand the force you're dealing with, and how to harness it."

As Kairo left the clinic with his mother, his mind was full of questions. The world around him felt different, as if the ground beneath his feet wasn't quite as solid as it used to be. He had a Quirk now, a power he couldn't yet control. And that scared him more than anything. But despite the fear, there was a flicker of excitement inside him. He had the potential to be something more, something greater. But first, he had to understand what was happening to him.

The ride home was silent, his mother lost in thought, and Kairo staring out of the window. His heart thudded in his chest, and he realized that his life was about to change in ways he couldn't fully understand yet.

One thing was certain: He wasn't going to give up. He was going to learn. And, maybe one day, he'd be able to control his power, to use it for something good.
