Chapter 316: You can't die
Before the door to the house opened, Lucian's mobile rang again. It was none other than his desperate and depressed mother. After seeing the name, he put the mobile down and didn't bother answering.
After a few seconds, the sound of soft footsteps came from inside, then the door slowly opened as Tess jumped into his arms giggling, and instantly began to tell him about all kinds of things.
She was so innocent and happy, not knowing what kind of disaster was about to fall upon everyone. Lucian carried her into the house. Everyone else seemed just as happy—it seemed they had just too much confidence in him.
"Hey everyone, sorry something came up and I had to stay outside yesterday night. Nothing out of the ordinary happened, right?" Lucian asked as he sat on the sofa beside Melina and Ava, with Tess sitting over his lap.
He didn't really have to worry about them since he kept a small part of Velm close to them, always protecting them without anyone knowing.
"Everything was fine, but we missed you quite a lot. Sigh, especially this morning, both of us felt so empty," Melina spoke, resting her head over his shoulder.
"Yeah, sure you did." Lucian shook his head. His aunt was flirting so openly now. Ava wondered what the deal with the morning was, while Lara also shared the same feeling as Melina. She too had decided to completely follow Lucian and be a big part of his life.
Melina's son, Junior, was still there. Because of the upcoming danger, she couldn't just let him stay away from her.
They all chatted and spent time together. Lucian's mobile rang several times in between this, and each time the duration between each call grew shorter.
Soon he was getting continuous calls and messages from her. He walked away from them and finally decided to answer.
Clearing his throat, he picked up the call and put the mobile to his ear as Diana's worried voice sounded in his ear.
"L- Lucian... sob... a- are you fine? Where have... sob sob... you been all this t- time? Sob... I have been trying to call you. Are y- you a- alright? Where are... sob sob... you now? Please come meet me—" Diana spoke, but her voice suddenly paused as he interrupted her.
"Hello? Who is it? Did you call the wrong number?" Lucian spoke, his tone full of confusion.
"H- Huh? Wrong number? Sob sob…" Diana was shocked. There was no doubt this was the voice of the person she loved the most—it was definitely Lucian. So why was he acting like that?
"A- Are... sob... you not Lucian?" she asked, her voice still choking.
"I am Lucian. But who are you? Do I even know you?" Lucian questioned, each of his words hurting Diana very much.
"I- It's me, Diana. Don't you... sob... r- remember me? Lucian, w- what's wrong with you? Sob... it is me. We were together just now... sob... didn't you say that you were coming to m- meet me?" Diana asked, as her cries became louder. She really felt broken.
After staying strong all her life, she couldn't stop herself from crying continuously at this moment.
"Diana? You are Diana?" Lucian questioned.
"Y- Yes, it is me. You recognize me... sob... right?" she asked hopefully.
"So you finally decided to remember me… Mom? After so many years, you finally remembered that you have a son named Lucian? Hah... Honestly, I don't need you. I have a lovely family of my own now, and I don't want you to cause any trouble." Lucian said, his voice full of hostility.
Diana's mind froze again. Her lips remained parted, and she couldn't speak anything. After her mind registered his words, she couldn't understand how he suddenly found out she was his mother—and more than that, why was he acting like he was talking to her for the first time?
"Did something h- happen? Sob... Lucian, didn't we plan to spend our life together just today... sob... what are you saying? I- I love you. P- please don't act like that." Diana pleaded, her face covered in tears. He was her last and only option, the only reason that gave her courage to live.
"Mom, I know it is you. Don't ever call me. And please enjoy your misery. Heh... goodbye."
Then he cut the call, as Diana was left there completely baffled and broken.
After the call was cut, she remained in the same position for several minutes. Then she stood up. She had stopped crying, and no emotion was on her face. She understood everything—it was her punishment for abandoning and not caring about her son when he needed her the most.
She absentmindedly walked into a company building beside her own. Then, using the elevator, she went to the top floor.
Like a shattered piece of a happy picture, she thought about all the happy moments of her life, how she wanted it to turn after meeting with Lucian and falling in love with him.
Everything seemed to be going far too well, but now everything was gone. And she was left with nothing—all because of her wrong choices.
After a few minutes, when she had finished reminiscing the past, she dragged her body to the edge of the roof. Then she climbed onto the boundary. Cold and strong wind hit her body, making her clothes and hair flutter.
She looked down at the large city from the top of the building—from so high, everything seemed so small and insignificant.
After standing there, she indeed felt quite afraid of the death that was about to come. But the pain was not enough to make her cower in front of death. In her mind, she begged for forgiveness from Lucian, wishing that she had taken care of him.
Then she took a step forward and her body began to fall. All her senses became numb and her body turned cold, while her mind completely shut down as her body fell from such a high floor.
'I am sorry, Lucian…' she muttered in her mind and shut her eyes, the pain and fear mixed up.
She continued to fall for a few seconds, and at the time of the impact, somehow her body hit the ground with a soft sound, as if she had just jumped onto something very soft.
Her body didn't seem to have received even a scratch. Diana noticed that she was perfectly fine. Opening her eyes, she looked at her body in shock. Indeed, there wasn't even a single scratch. Then she noticed the red jelly like thing that had protected her, which soon disappeared.
Diana remained lying on the floor. The people passing by hadn't noticed her fall, but they just ignored her and passed by her.
"W- What just happened?" Diana muttered. She just wanted to end her life, take away all the regrets and bad decisions with her. But she couldn't even die.
Diana stood up and looked around, wondering if she was just daydreaming. Then she suddenly ran towards the road in front of a fast car. But before it could strike her, her body was suddenly pulled away to the side of the road, stunning Diana again.
She saw a couple of letters on the red surface this time:
"Mom, you can't die."
