My Real Job is Spying on Konoha, but I'm Also its Hokage

Chapter 61: Chapter 62: Uchiha Shisui

Early Morning.

Haneul stood outside with his eyes closed. A moment later, his body trembled as electricity coursed through him. He maintained it until he could no longer hold on, then dispersed his chakra. He let out a long breath. After such a long period of training, the progress on his C-Rank Trait 'Lightning Release Chakra Activation' had reached 70%. His A-Rank 'Monstrous Strength,' however, was progressing more slowly, at only about 20%.

Just then, he heard footsteps. Haneul turned his head and was slightly taken aback. It was Kakashi Hatake. But his face no longer held its usual cool expression; instead, it was filled with worry. This was clearly not normal. Moreover, he had come alone, not with Obito Uchiha and Rin Nohara.

"What happened?" Haneul wondered. Did Sakumo Hatake commit suicide? But if he had, Kakashi wouldn't be this calm.

"Have you heard the recent rumors?" Kakashi asked after a moment's hesitation.

"What rumors?" Haneul was confused. "I've been interning at the hospital recently, so I haven't been paying attention."

"They're about my father," Kakashi explained. "Many ninja believe that my father violated the village's rules by saving his comrades before completing the mission."

Haneul knew it was coming. The rumors had finally begun, and this was just the start. At present, Sakumo Hatake was so powerful that he could likely save his comrades and complete the mission simultaneously. But you can't walk by the river without getting your shoes wet. What if Konoha assigned him an extremely difficult and critical mission, and he failed it because he chose to save his comrades first? That would lead to the same outcome as the original story: being ostracized by everyone, ultimately leading to his suicide.

Without a doubt, someone was pulling strings from behind the scenes. S-Rank missions were supposed to be highly confidential. How could news of it spread so quickly throughout the village? Even if the details leaked, Konoha's leadership should have stepped in to stop the rumors, but they hadn't.

"Haneul," Kakashi said, a lost look on his face, "do you think my father was wrong?"

Mission first, or comrades first? Given the special nature of being a ninja, it was hard to say who was right or wrong. But Haneul thought of Naruto and his generation, where comrades were highly valued. Perhaps it was Sakumo's suicide that led to a change in Konoha's leadership.

"I don't think he was wrong," Haneul replied with a serious expression.

"Really?" Kakashi's eyes widened as he asked subconsciously. The reason he had come to ask Haneul was that Haneul had always seemed more mature than his peers. Plus, they had been training together for over a year and had a good relationship.

"Mhm." Haneul invoked Tsunade's name. "My master told me that as a medical ninja, you must never give up on a single comrade."

"Thank you, Haneul," Kakashi said, sighing in relief. He felt a sense of peace settle in his heart.

"I once heard a saying that fits your father's situation perfectly," Haneul recited, word by word. "My heart and my actions are utterly unclouded. They are all those of 'Justice'."

Sakumo Hatake reminded him of those two champions of justice, Kiritsugu Emiya and Shirou Emiya. But he knew that persuasion from Kakashi alone would likely not be enough. The key to this matter was Konoha's leadership—namely, Hiruzen Sarutobi.

Haneul grew thoughtful. He had seen Sakumo Hatake often while training with Kakashi. He always seemed kind and gentle. It would be a great pity if such a person were to die.

"Um... I don't really understand," Kakashi said, a bit stunned and embarrassed.

"Let's head to the Academy. I'll explain on the way," Haneul said, calling Kurenai Yuhi to join them as the three of them made their way to the Ninja Academy.

Uchiha Clan Compound.

"Shisui, congratulations on your enrollment. This is a gift for you," Tekka Uchiha said, presenting a set of custom-made kunai.

"Thank you, Brother Tekka," Shisui Uchiha replied with a gentle smile.

"It's nothing," Tekka said, patting his shoulder with a serious tone. "You must reclaim the #1 spot that the Uchiha have lost!"

"Huh?" Shisui was confused. "What #1 spot?"

"First place at the Ninja Academy," Tekka said grimly.

"Is Brother Tekka talking about Haneul?" Curiosity flashed in Shisui's eyes. "I've heard of him. He's become quite famous recently."

Haneul was young, a student of Tsunade, and had demonstrated exceptional medical ninjutsu skills. After interning at the Konoha Hospital for two months, he had already built a considerable reputation among the ninja. Many were calling him the next Tsunade.

"That's him," Tekka sighed. "When I enrolled, I challenged him, but I couldn't even beat his lackey, Kakashi."

"Is it possible that Kakashi is the strong one, not Haneul?" Shisui asked after a moment of thought.

"Impossible!" Tekka declared with conviction. "A proud genius like Kakashi would only be ordered around by Haneul if he had been utterly defeated."

"That makes sense," Shisui conceded.

"Shisui, among our generation, you're the one I admire most. Even though you're younger than me, you're stronger," Tekka said, looking at him. "You can definitely defeat Haneul!"

"I... I'll try," Shisui couldn't refuse and nodded. Besides, he was genuinely interested in Haneul.

"Then we'll challenge him today!" Tekka said, his spirits lifting with excitement. "The glory of being #1 belongs to the Uchiha!"

"There's no rush," Shisui said with considerable composure. "Intelligence is the most important thing in a ninja battle. I need to understand Haneul's abilities first."

"You... you're good at everything, but your personality isn't very Uchiha-like," Tekka's face stiffened as he complained. Shisui just smiled sheepishly.

"Alright," Tekka said with a look of determination. "I will challenge Haneul and do my best to force him to use his full strength."

"Brother Tekka..." Shisui was about to speak but was cut off.

"Don't try to persuade me!" Tekka said firmly. "For the Uchiha!"

Shisui wanted to say something but ultimately held his tongue. He knew that for the Uchiha clan, family always came first, with the village being a secondary concern.

"The problem is, my previous challenges were all intercepted by Kakashi," Tekka suddenly remembered. "Shisui, you've always been clever. Do you have any ideas on how to make Haneul not avoid the fight?"

"Issue a formal challenge letter," Shisui said after some thought. "With a formal challenge, Haneul probably won't have Kakashi step in for him again."

"Great idea!" A smile broke out on Tekka's face.
