My Real Job is Spying on Konoha, but I'm Also its Hokage

Chapter 62: Chapter 63: There Must Be Something Fishy About This

"Rin, don't laugh, this time it's for real!"

As soon as Haneul walked into the classroom, he heard Obito Uchiha's voice.

"What's for real?" Kakashi asked casually as he walked over. Thanks to Haneul's explanation on the way, most of his anxieties about his father had been resolved.

"Haneul, Kakashi, and Kurenai, good morning," Rin Nohara said with a smile.

Obito was subconsciously taken aback. Why did she greet Haneul first? He quickly shook his head. I must be overthinking it. It's just a greeting, nothing more.

"Obito was just saying that there's a new Uchiha student this year who is even stronger than Kakashi," Rin said, her lips curling into a slight smile.

"He really is stronger than Kakashi!" Obito emphasized.

"Is that so?" Kakashi was completely unconvinced. "You said the same thing about Tekka Uchiha last year."

"What's Tekka Uchiha? He wouldn't last a minute against this guy," Obito said proudly. "Even our clan head says he's a once-in-a-decade genius for the Uchiha, no worse than me!"

"..." Kakashi thought to himself, I might have believed you if you hadn't added that last part, but now it's hard to take you seriously.

"What's his name?" Rin asked curiously.

"Uchiha Shisui!" Obito huffed, declaring confidently, "You'll all be hearing his name soon enough!"

So it's Uchiha Shisui, Haneul thought. This time, Obito wasn't far off the mark. Shisui Uchiha had awakened his Mangekyo Sharingan even earlier than Itachi, unlocking the powerful dōjutsu, Kotoamatsukami. In the Third Great Ninja War, he earned the moniker "Shisui of the Body Flicker," becoming renowned throughout the ninja world. Even Ao, a Jonin from the Hidden Mist, chose to lead his troops in retreat rather than face him.

The most incredible part was his age. According to the timeline, he was not yet ten years old when he fought in the Third Great Ninja War. Like Sakumo Hatake, he also died by suicide, but his was out of despair over his inability to bring peace between the Uchiha clan and Konoha. On top of that, in a questionable move, he had revealed his Kotoamatsukami to Konoha's leadership, which led to Danzo Shimura ambushing him and stealing his eye.

It couldn't be helped. Kotoamatsukami was too powerful, hailed as the strongest genjutsu. It could invade a person's mind without them noticing and alter their will. In short, it was mind control. It would be strange if Danzo felt at ease with such an ultimate weapon in someone else's hands.

"I'm telling you... hey, Shisui?" Obito suddenly froze, feeling awkward. He wondered if Shisui had heard what he'd just been saying.

"Brother Obito?" Shisui, who had been peeking into the classroom, brightened up. He had finally found a familiar face. "Brother Obito," Shisui hurried over. "Do you know who Haneul is?"

"..." Obito's mouth hung open, annoyed. Why is it always Haneul? Can't you people give it a rest?!

"He's Haneul," Kurenai said, pointing to Haneul. "What do you need him for, junior?"

"Thank you, senior," Shisui said politely. Kurenai beamed. It was the first time someone had called her "senior."

"Senior Haneul," Shisui said, handing him a challenge letter. "This is from Brother Tekka."

"Why are you delivering it?" Haneul asked, opening the letter and glancing at it.

"I wanted to meet you, Senior Haneul," Shisui replied honestly.

Haneul blinked. Am I that famous now?

"What's so great about him?" Obito couldn't help but mutter. He hated it when Haneul hogged the spotlight in front of Rin.

"I will be there on time," Haneul said, putting away the challenge letter.

"Thank you, Senior Haneul," Shisui said, secretly relieved. "I won't disturb you any longer. See you tomorrow." He said his goodbyes and left.

"Is he really an Uchiha?" Kurenai asked, puzzled. The Uchiha clan's reputation was well-known in Konoha—arrogant, proud, and difficult to approach. Shisui, however, was polite and well-mannered, not at all like an Uchiha.

"He certainly doesn't seem like one," Haneul said casually.

"Why did Tekka Uchiha go to so much trouble, even writing a formal challenge letter?" Kurenai asked, looking at Haneul.

"He was probably afraid I'd just send Kakashi again," Haneul said thoughtfully.

"He can't even beat Kakashi, so why would he challenge you and ask for trouble?" Kurenai shook her head.

After a brief chat, it was time for the opening ceremony. Led by their teacher, Eiichiro, the third-year Class A filed out of the classroom in an orderly fashion. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, walked to the podium and began his performance. Just then, a slight commotion broke out in the third-year ranks. Hiruzen saw Tsunade and couldn't help but twitch his lip. But he remained unfazed, continuing his speech about the Will of Fire in a steady voice.

To the envious gazes of his classmates, Haneul followed Tsunade and left the assembly ground.

"You look happy," Tsunade said, glancing at him.

"I'm happy to see you, Master," Haneul said with a smile.

"Smooth-talker," Tsunade's lips curled upwards.

"Master, where are we going next?" Haneul paused, then added, "We can't go to the casino."

"You're telling me what to do again?" Tsunade's expression changed in an instant. She raised her hand and rapped him on the head.

"It's the first day of school," Haneul said, catching her hand.

"What's so special about the first day of school?" Tsunade asked casually, letting him hold her hand.

"Nothing," Haneul couldn't find a reason and said directly, "Anyway, we just can't go."

"I really don't know what to do with you," Tsunade's beautiful eyes darted around as an idea formed. "Then let's go to Kushina's house."

"..." Haneul wanted to protest. He knew exactly what Tsunade wanted to do at Kushina Uzumaki's house: just find a different place to gamble.

"Master, I have a question," Haneul said, suddenly remembering the rumors about Sakumo Hatake.

"What is it?" Tsunade asked, pulling him along as they left the school and turned left.

"It's like this," Haneul explained what Kakashi had told him that morning. "Master, what do you think?"

"There must be something fishy about this," Tsunade frowned instinctively. Her first reaction was that Danzo Shimura was behind it. Sakumo Hatake's reputation was so great that many believed he could become the Fourth Hokage. Danzo would certainly not want that. In fact, he wouldn't want anyone to become Hokage except himself.

"I'll find time to ask the old man about it," Tsunade said after some thought.

"Okay," Haneul nodded. He didn't have the power to interfere himself. Having Tsunade look into it was the best possible outcome. At least it wouldn't be worse than what happened in the original story.
