Chapter 67: Chapter 68: Crying in Teacher's Arms Wouldn't Be So Bad
"Shisui," Haneul said with a smile, extending an invitation, "we should train together sometime."
Obito had awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan, so his potential couldn't be bad, but he was a late bloomer during his Academy days. Shisui, on the other hand, would experience a massive power surge in a few years during the Third Great Ninja War, becoming an elite among Jonin. It was an easy choice who to farm Fire Style talent from.
"Okay, Senior Haneul," Shisui agreed immediately. Unlike other Uchiha, he wasn't averse to interacting with ninja from other clans. Besides, Haneul was no ordinary person. His status and strength were both worth cultivating a relationship with.
"See you tomorrow," Haneul said, not lingering. He said his goodbyes and left.
As he passed a ramen shop that was under renovation, he couldn't help but stop. The sign hanging in front read 'Ichiraku Ramen.' Is it about to open? Haneul curiously looked at the shop but didn't see the legendary Otsutsuki Ichiraku, only construction workers. He looked away and soon arrived at Tsunade's house.
He was about to take out his key when he noticed the door was ajar, open by a finger's width. Is Tsunade home? He was surprised.
Haneul pushed the door open and walked into the living room. Tsunade's head was resting on the sofa armrest, her eyes slightly closed, her lips a rosy pink. Her slender waist supported her full figure, and the heavy burden of her chest naturally tilted, putting a strain on her clothes. Her hips sank deep into the sofa, and her long legs were crossed, the right one on top, her pale, delicate foot swaying gently in the air. Her toes were a pinkish-white, neatly aligned and adorable. The only flaw was that her red nail polish was a bit faded, lacking its initial vibrancy.
"Master," Haneul greeted her. "Mhm," Tsunade acknowledged him. "Is something troubling you, Master?" Haneul sensed she was different from usual. "It's nothing," Tsunade said, sitting up. "I was just thinking about what mission to take." "Huh?" Haneul was surprised. "You're going on a mission?" "What's with that look?" Tsunade couldn't help but glare at him. "It's the first time I've seen you go on a mission," Haneul said, blinking. "Do you think I'd tell you every time I go on a mission?" Tsunade asked, her expression unchanging. "But why are you telling me today?" Haneul quickly found the loophole. "Because you're coming with me," Tsunade said with a light laugh. "Are you scared?" "Why would I be scared?" Although it was sudden, Haneul was eager to try. He had never been outside the village before. He hadn't dared to leave the Academy before because he was worried about Danzo, but with Tsunade along, it shouldn't be a problem. "Missions are no joke," Tsunade said, flicking his forehead. "Just don't come crying to me when it's time to kill someone."
Haneul was taken aback. He had indeed never killed anyone before, but for a ninja, if you don't kill, you will be killed.
"Crying in teacher's arms wouldn't be so bad," Haneul said, tilting his head and looking at her ample chest.
"Crying also takes time," Tsunade laughed, pinching his cheek. "There's no time to cry on the battlefield."
Battlefield? A thought struck Haneul. He remembered that Asuma, Kurenai, and the others had graduated at age nine, which was the prelude to the Third Great Ninja War. In other words, there were less than two years left.
"I won't cry," Haneul said, shaking his head. With the experience of two lifetimes, his mental fortitude was naturally stronger than his peers.
"Your strength isn't bad right now. I'll choose a slightly more difficult mission," Tsunade said with a smile. "I believe in you."
"But not too difficult," Haneul coughed lightly. "I haven't even graduated yet."
"Sly little brat," Tsunade said, patting his head. But she preferred this kind of personality. Being too righteous didn't allow one to survive long on the battlefield.
"I call it being smart," Haneul couldn't help but correct her.
"Whatever you say," Tsunade said dismissively. "The matter with Sakumo Hatake, I've already spoken to the old man about it. It will be resolved soon."
"As expected of you, Master!" Haneul praised her immediately.
"Hypocrite," Tsunade said, retracting her hand. "Go make dinner."
"Yes, ma'am!" Haneul stood up straight. "Mission accepted!"
Tsunade watched him go into the kitchen, the smile on her face quickly fading. She scratched her head, still struggling with which mission to choose. Too difficult, and she was afraid Haneul would get hurt. Too easy, and it wouldn't serve as a proper training experience. It was the first time she had been so conflicted over a mission.
"Master, dinner's ready!" A moment later, Haneul came out of the kitchen with bowls and chopsticks.
"Did anything happen at school today?" Tsunade asked casually, sitting down at the table and picking up her chopsticks.
"Nothing major," Haneul said, picking up a piece of fried shrimp. "I had a spar with Shisui."
"Uchiha Shisui?" Tsunade recalled. "I've heard the Uchiha ninja at the hospital mention him. They say he's a rare genius."
"He's pretty strong," Haneul nodded. "He can even use Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson."
Tsunade was surprised. Being able to use that jutsu wasn't a big deal, but considering his age, it was terrifying.
"Who won?" she asked, looking at him.
"Me, of course," Haneul said, lifting his chin proudly. "I definitely wouldn't bring shame to you, Master."
"You're the strong one," Tsunade smiled, then asked, "So, does that mean your genjutsu and kenjutsu are at the Chunin level?"
"More or less," Haneul said, chewing his shrimp.
"Is that so?" Tsunade was thoughtful. "After dinner, I'll take you to meet someone."
"Who?" Haneul asked, puzzled.
"There are many in the village who are skilled in Konoha-Style Kenjutsu. He just happens to be one of them," Tsunade explained. "And he has combined genjutsu with it, which would be a perfect fit for you."
Maruboshi Kosuke. His name immediately came to Haneul's mind. The legendary Eternal Genin. In his youth, his rashness had led to the deaths of his comrades. To atone, he swore to the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, that he would remain a Genin for life. He even refused the Third Hokage's offer to promote him to Jonin. His true strength was formidable even among Jonin.
"My great-granduncle had a connection with him and even taught him some Water Style ninjutsu," Tsunade finished. "Out of respect for him, he won't refuse to teach you."
If it weren't for Haneul, she wouldn't have been willing to call in a favor. But an extra bit of strength was an extra chance at survival.
"Thank you, Master," Haneul nodded. A child with a mother is a treasure; the same goes for a good teacher.
