My Real Job is Spying on Konoha, but I'm Also its Hokage

Chapter 76: Chapter 78: Ichiraku Ramen Opens

In the dark of the Hidden Mist Village, all was quiet.

"No! Is he sick in the head?!" Mei Terumi suddenly shot up in bed. Just now, she had dreamt of Haneul, a replay of the memory where he stole her wallet. "Bastard!" she clenched her fist and punched her blanket.

Ever since she was young, her talent had been exceptional. She was a true prodigy and had never suffered such a humiliating defeat. What was most unacceptable was that her opponent was her own age. Mei thought back to the file she had read on Haneul. His specialty was supposed to be medical ninjutsu, not kenjutsu or genjutsu. Yet she had lost to his swordsmanship. She bit her lip, her face red with anger. She swore she would get her wallet back!

A new day.

The chirping of unknown birds came from outside the window. Haneul sat up and stretched. He had slept well last night. The past few days had been spent in a tent, which was far from being as comfortable as a bed. "Home sweet home."

He got dressed and went to the bathroom. "Good morning," Kurenai said, making room for him. He stood beside her and started brushing his teeth. Shinku Yuhi glanced at them and felt a pain in his stomach. He carried a bowl of ramen to the table and said with a flat expression, "Time to eat."

Soon, the three of them were sitting at the table. "Haneul, when is your next mission?" Kurenai asked with concern.

"I don't know," he shook his head. "Master didn't say." Knowing Tsunade, it would probably be next month. This mission had taken a week, which had seriously interfered with her gambling. She would likely be living at the casino for the next few days.

"Kurenai," Shinku couldn't help but say, "your main priority right now is to study." He didn't want her going on missions. The real reason, of course, was that he didn't think she was strong enough.

"I know!" Kurenai puffed out her cheeks, a little unhappy.

"It's fine," Haneul comforted her. "There will be plenty of opportunities after we graduate."

"That's true," Kurenai nodded.

"..." Shinku was speechless. Are my words completely useless now?

"But... I heard we get split into different teams after graduation," Kurenai said with a worried expression.

"Not a problem," Haneul said with a smile. "My master is Tsunade. We'll have her help us out."

"Really?" Kurenai's eyes lit up.

"Mhm," Haneul said confidently.

"That's great!" she said excitedly.

"..." Shinku shot a glare at Haneul. You're already planning that far ahead, you little brat! But... if Kurenai could be on Haneul's team, it would be nothing but beneficial. After all, his teacher was Tsunade.

After breakfast, Haneul and Kurenai went to Maruboshi Kosuke's house. There was still an hour before class, which couldn't be wasted. Haneul took out his sword and continued to train in Konoha-Style: Willow.

"Goodbye, Uncle Kosuke!" After training, the two of them headed to the Ninja Academy.

"Kurenai," Haneul said, patting her shoulder. "Uncle Kosuke gave you a Water Style training scroll. Can I borrow it?"

"Of course," Kurenai handed him the scroll without a second thought. "Are you going to learn Water Style?" She remembered his affinities were Lightning and Fire, not Water.

"I ran into a Water Style user in the Land of Water, and it was a tough fight. I want to learn more about it," he explained.

"When I learn Water Style, I'll help you beat her!" Kurenai said, shaking her little fist.

"Sounds good," Haneul smiled and agreed.

When they got to the classroom, Asuma Sarutobi greeted them. After all, Haneul had just treated him to barbecue yesterday. "By the way, Haneul, this is for you," Kurenai said, getting a notebook from her desk.

"Thanks," Haneul was taken aback but accepted it. He didn't really need it, though.

"Damn it!" Asuma was suddenly hit with a wave of PDA and couldn't help but groan.

"Do you have a problem with that?" Kurenai glanced at him. Asuma covered his face and sat down. He couldn't win a one-on-two.

Haneul went back to his seat and opened the notebook. It was clear Kurenai had put a lot of effort into it; her handwriting was neat, and the notes were very detailed.

"Haneul," Rin Nohara's voice came.

"What is it?" Haneul looked up, saw the notebook in her hand, and asked, "Is there something you don't understand?"

"This is..." Rin suddenly stopped. She saw the notebook already on Haneul's desk. Someone had beaten her to it. "It's nothing," she said, a hint of disappointment in her heart, though her expression didn't show it. She shook her head and turned away.

"What was that about?" Haneul scratched his head, finding it a bit strange.

The class bell rang. Just as Eiichiro walked in, Obito came running in right behind him. "Sorry, sensei," Obito immediately apologized.

"Go to your seat," Eiichiro shook his head and walked to the podium. "Everyone, take out your textbooks. Today we're learning about ciphers."

Haneul put away the class notes and took out a book—not his textbook, but the Water Style training notes. Mei had dropped a 30% bonus Water Style talent for him; he couldn't let it go to waste. Besides, he needed to learn Water Style to synthesize Wood Style.

Footsteps approached. Haneul turned and met Eiichiro's eyes. He blinked and nonchalantly continued reading the Water Style notes. "..." Eiichiro was at a loss for words. So you're just going to cheat on me right in front of my face? But even after staring until his eyes were tired, Haneul showed no signs of remorse. Eiichiro could only give up.

Time passed, and soon it was the end of the school day. Haneul used to train with Asuma, Kakashi, and Kurenai. But because he was learning Konoha-Style: Willow, he had temporarily separated from them. Later, he had roped Kurenai into learning Water Style, so they had split into two training groups. Today was no different. However, he had heard some unexpected news from Asuma: Shisui Uchiha had joined their training. He and Kakashi were apparently having intense spars every day. This hadn't happened in the original story; it was a butterfly effect of Haneul's actions.

"Hey, you two kids!" As Haneul and Kurenai were walking down the street, they suddenly heard someone calling them. A man in a white chef's uniform appeared before them. "I'm Teuchi, the chef at Ichiraku Ramen," he said, handing them two coupons. "We're officially opening next month. Everything will be discounted. We hope to see you there."

"Thank you," Haneul said, taking the coupons. "We'll definitely be there." As a fan of the original story, the grand opening of Ichiraku Ramen was an event not to be missed. And he also wanted to know what the ramen that Naruto was so obsessed with tasted like.

A new week.

Haneul woke up early today because he wanted to try out Water Style on his own. He changed into his tracksuit and went for a jog as usual.

"Haneul!" Tsuchibashi suddenly appeared and grabbed him, saying excitedly, "I finally found you!"

"What is it, Uncle Tsuchibashi?" Haneul raised an eyebrow. "Are there new instructions from the Hidden Cloud?"

"It's about the new book!" Tsuchibashi said with a pained expression. "You haven't released a new book in so long. Think of all the money we've lost!"

Do you even remember you're a spy? Haneul wanted to ask. Oh, wait, so am I. Never mind.

Haneul was an orphan and had no fond memories of the Cloud Village. All his friends were in Konoha. As for his spy identity, it was useful for now, so he kept it. If it became useless, he could discard it. With his current status and position, even if the Cloud Village exposed him, Konoha would probably just think they were slandering him. Of course, if they offered to make him the Raikage, he wouldn't refuse.

"Does your friend have a new book?" Tsuchibashi asked eagerly.

"I'll go ask him," Haneul said after a moment's thought.

"When will you get back to me?" Tsuchibashi complained. "You haven't been to the bookstore in almost half a year. You can't take that long this time."

"Tomorrow," Haneul's lip twitched. Why are you acting like a jilted lover? Watch out for the Konoha gays.

"Alright, I'll be waiting," Tsuchibashi said, relieved.

As he ran, Haneul thought about a new book. Soon, an idea came to him. He was going to release his treasured epic masterpiece: Kuroinu (Black Beast)! In his past life, he had even bought a figure of Celestine.

Third Training Ground.

Haneul arrived early, and since it was Sunday, the training ground was empty. He stood there, took a breath, and then formed hand seals. Water Style: Water Trumpet!

Chakra gathered quickly in his throat, but... it didn't come out. Haneul started coughing violently. He had choked on the water, and his ninjutsu had failed. He wasn't discouraged. After a short rest, he tried again.

[E-Rank Ninjutsu Trait: Water Style: Water Trumpet.]

Activation Condition: Successfully execute the technique.

Effect: The technique automatically reaches 'Proficient' level.

An hour later, Haneul had obtained a new trait. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and left without lingering. To synthesize Wood Style, his Water Style needed to be at the Jonin level. There was no point in rushing. For now, he wanted to focus on mastering Konoha-Style: Willow.

March passed, and soon it was April.

Ichiraku Ramen.

"Wow! So many people!" Kurenai exclaimed, looking at the long queue.

Haneul frowned slightly. There really were a lot of people. He counted over thirty in line.

"Haneul!" Kushina Uzumaki called out in pleasant surprise.

"Sister Kushina," Haneul turned and greeted. "Senior Minato."

"That's strange," Minato Namikaze couldn't help but complain. "Why do you call her 'sister' and me 'senior'?"

"That's because Haneul and I are close," Kushina said, glaring at him. Minato could only retreat in defeat. The truth was, Haneul just didn't want to call him "big brother," as it brought up some unpleasant images.

"Haneul!" Just then, Asuma Sarutobi's voice rang out. With him were Kakashi, Rin, and Obito.

"Haneul! Kakashi!" Might Guy shouted, running on his hands.

"Haneul is really popular," Minato said with emotion.
