Chapter 52: Chapter 50: Why Don’t You All Come at Me Together?
"Yako!" Kakashi immediately called out to stop her.
No matter what, Haru's appointment as the Anbu captain was a direct order from the Third Hokage. Even if Yako and the others were dissatisfied with Haru, they couldn't openly defy their superior.
Moreover, Haru wasn't just all talk. His strength surpassed even Kakashi's.
"It's fine."
However, Haru had no intention of letting Kakashi fight his battles for him.
"If anyone else has a problem, why don't you all come at me together? I'm in a hurry to take my afternoon nap," Haru said lazily, even yawning as he spoke.
His words caused another uproar.
"What did you say?"
Yako was stunned for a moment, but soon grew furious at Haru's attitude.
Even among all the Anbu squads, their team was considered the strongest. Yet, Haru had the audacity to suggest they all attack him at once. Was he implying that his strength alone could crush all of them ?
"Hmph."
Yako snorted coldly. "Even if you truly have the strength of an Anbu captain, there's no way you can withstand a joint attack from all of us."
"That's right. Every member of this team has the strength of an elite jonin. If you keep this up, you'll only be asking for trouble."
"We just think Kakashi is more suited to be the captain. Sure, you might hold the title, but we hope you have the self-awareness to follow Kakashi's lead during missions."
Aside from Uchiha Itachi and Tenzo, the rest of the Anbu members stood united.
In their eyes, the Third Hokage's arrangement was likely meant for Haru to learn valuable experience from Kakashi. If Haru could understand that, they wouldn't have to resort to this.
However, Haru had been dismissive of both them and Kakashi. And now, he was even suggesting they all attack him at once.
"So…" Haru ignored their comments and spoke impatiently, "Are you all coming or not?"
To the Anbu members, his words were nothing short of mockery.
"Fine. You asked for this."
Yako growled, immediately assuming an offensive stance.
What Kakashi didn't expect was that even the usually calm Tenzo stepped forward, standing beside Yako.
"Tenzo."
Kakashi frowned. The other Anbu members hadn't witnessed Haru's strength, so it was natural for them to distrust him. Combined with Haru's attitude, it was no surprise they wanted to challenge him.
In fact, it was precisely because Yako and the others were confident in their own strength and trusted Kakashi that they were acting this way.
But Tenzo was different. He was calm by nature and had personally witnessed Haru's power. No one understood Haru's strength better than Tenzo, especially when it came to his formidable Wood Release.
"Kakashi-senpai," Tenzo took a deep breath, his expression serious. "I want to test him."
Tenzo was different from the others. He didn't think there was anything wrong with Haru being the captain.
First, Haru was strong exceptionally strong. His chakra reserves alone were over a hundred times greater than Kakashi's.
Moreover, since Haru had joined the Anbu, he was now their comrade and deserved their respect.
But…
Haru was the only other ninja in the village, besides himself, who could use Wood Release. And the power he had displayed was extraordinary.
If this opportunity hadn't presented itself, Tenzo might have let it go. But now that it had, he wanted to challenge Haru!
Seeing Tenzo's determination, Kakashi seemed to understand something. He sighed helplessly.
Since both sides were eager, there was no point in trying to stop them.
However, not everyone wanted to challenge Haru.
Uchiha Itachi, for one, instinctively took a step back, as if he didn't want to get involved.
In fact, ever since Itachi had joined the team, he had often kept to himself. Many times, he would go on missions alone.
Aside from Kakashi, it was difficult for anyone to get close to him.
Of course, noticing Itachi's reluctance to get involved, no one forced him.
"Then I'll"
Just as Yako was about to launch her attack, Haru yawned again and raised his hand, making a stopping gesture.
"Hmph."
Seeing this, Yako snorted.
Even though Itachi wasn't joining, Tenzo's strength was nothing to scoff at. He could even use the legendary Wood Release, the same technique that had made the First Hokage famous across the shinobi world.
In Yako's mind, once Tenzo revealed his true power, Haru would be left dumbfounded.
"Are you regretting it now?"
"Indeed, every member here has completed hundreds of A-rank missions. Even Captain Kakashi would have a hard time facing us all at once."
"At least this guy has some self-awareness."
However, what no one expected was that after making the stopping gesture, Haru pointed directly at Kakashi.
"Me?" Kakashi pointed at himself, unsure what Haru was trying to do.
Then, Haru pointed at Yako's group.
"Me? Stand over there?"
Kakashi studied Haru for a moment, then walked over to stand beside Yako.
With everyone except Itachi now standing together, Haru finally spoke in his usual nonchalant tone, "When I said 'come at me together,' I meant you too."
"What?!"
His words caused everyone to gasp.
Not only that, the sudden turn of events began to attract the attention of other Anbu members.
"Why me too…"
Kakashi couldn't help but complain internally. He didn't really care who the captain was. If anything, his subordinates were the ones who had a bigger problem with Haru.
Everyone knew Kakashi had been a genius since childhood. His talent was something no one could match.
By the time Itachi had entered the ninja academy, Kakashi was already a chunin.
Not only that, Kakashi had earned the title of "Copy Ninja" thanks to his Sharingan.
This alone was proof of Kakashi's exceptional talent.
After all, even Itachi, who possessed two Sharingan, couldn't copy others' techniques to use in battle.
"This will be the worst decision of your life," Yako said bluntly, glaring at Haru.
Haru ignored her provocation, his gaze shifting past her to land on Itachi. His tone remained as casual as ever.
"Aren't you going to join in, Itachi?"
