Chapter 241: Slaughter!
"Why wouldn't I dare?" Grey's entire being was wracked with overwhelming pain.
His nerves were flaring, his tendons torn, and his organs felt compressed. Cracks split across his skin like shattered glass, this was the sheer backlash he endured for using Drayken's attack.
As he had said, Grey could only summon the soul of Drayken, but the toll of Drayken's power still ravaged his body each time it was used because his body wasn't strong enough.
Even so, there was not a hint of fear in Grey's eyes as he stared at the king of the Celestria Kingdom, surrounded by hundreds of guards.
'A cowardly man,' Grey thought, 'despite being a Book-Taming Grandmaster.'
The king didn't hesitate as he pointed a finger:
"Kill this bastard right now."
With the command of the king, all the soldiers instantly moved in unison, the ground trembling from the sheer number of soldiers as they advanced towards him.
Grey could feel the terrifying presence of many Book Tamers here, some were even at the master level.
Just the sheer number of these soldiers would have driven any sane individual, even a grandmaster, into terror and to the brink of despair.
However, Grey was no ordinary individual. His eyes shone with an unbridled determination, not to fight or cause violence, but to protect. Protect the one he considered a friend.
Drayken vanished from behind him. His body, in its current state, couldn't endure another backlash, but it was recovering. With every breath, his regeneration mended his muscles, tissues, and everything in between.
Then, a black Grimoire appeared, oozing with darkness. But on second thought, he send the Grimoire back and focused on Lilith.
Grey took a deep breath as he eyed the army. Barely a few moments had passed while he was thinking, yet the soldiers were already closing in on him.
Then Grey shot forward, the ground beneath him cracking from the sheer force of his descent.
At the same time, he wrote a simple word in Lilith's Grimoire:
"All souls are severed under my Will."
Bang!
Immediately, an invisible wave surged out with Lilith as the epicenter. Wherever it passed, soldiers began to fall to the ground with heavy thuds, one by one.
Just then, a loud shout came from the king, who was cowering behind the soldiers like a little coward:
"Don't fear, my soldiers! Does this bastard think he's the only one with a Diamond Grimoire?"
A humongous Grimoire, nearly ten feet tall, materialized in front of the king. Its pages began to flip rapidly before him.
Then the king started to write in the Grimoire, his spiritual energy surging into the quill pen:
"Where chaos rends the soul, I summon balance. Let harmony flow and sever none, return all to the rhythm of life."
Boom!
In an instant, the wave from Lilith was completely cancelled out. Not only that, the soldiers who had fallen from Soul Sever began to stand back up, one by one.
Grey looked at this with widened eyes.
"I didn't expect that this old man would have the Diamond Harmony Grimoire. Haha, a natural counter to many of my abilities," Lilith spoke from the side casually.
"Is it a counter to even your Primordial Light?" Grey muttered under his breath.
"Yeah, even a counter to that."
"Oh? So you're essentially useless in this battle then?" Grey frowned as he casually punched a soldier, sending him flying to the ground, almost crushing his entire body into bits.
"Who will summon… your clones, if I'm not here?" Lilith's voice was filled with meaning.
"..." Grey didn't respond. His eyes scanned the soldiers as he moved. With a casual strike, he ended a life in a single punch, and another with a swift kick.
Even a mere brush of his attacks caused soldiers' organs to rupture from the sheer rebound.
This was how powerful he was. Even without the Grimoires, he was still considerably strong, terrifyingly so.
"Ahhh! Monster!" The soldiers cried in despair as they looked upon the bloody, mushed remains of their fallen comrades.
"Monster?" Grey chuckled, his eyes scanning everyone around him, his pupils glinting with a hint of ruthlessness.
"I do not blame you, nor do I hold a grudge against you. You're simply standing in my way and I must kill that bastard."
He spoke in a deep voice just as his figure blurred, vanishing from his initial position, right as two attacks, a giant fireball and a wind slash, collided there from opposite directions.
Grey had used <Acceleration> and <Dash> to weave through the soldiers, casually punching them into bloody mush from the sheer force of his attacks.
It was a scene of carnage, brutal and unforgiving. The stench of blood cloaked the air, and countless cries of pain and despair echoed across the battlefield.
He was precise and masterful. Even without using a single Grimoire, he relied solely on his body and still absolutely destroyed everyone in his path.
Grey deliberately ignored the Grimoire users within the army. Engaging them would only slow him down, and any delay could allow others to catch up to his movements and strike him.
That would be troublesome.
Right now, speed was his greatest advantage and he would do everything in his power to maintain it.
Suddenly, the earth beneath him convulsed violently, splitting apart with a deafening crack.
From the jagged fissures, thick, sinewy vines burst forth like serpents, writhing and twisting as they lunged upward, eager to ensnare him ruthlessly.
But Grey used his reflexes to weave through the tangled onslaught, each movement fluid and precise.
He was unmatched, almost invincible, as he slaughtered everything and everyone in his path.
The memories of Chun Ma and his titles granted Grey exceptional combat sense, perfectly honed with his body.
He didn't need to use a Grimoire, his own strength without any external tool was enough!
"Just attack, you fools," the king growled anxiously, watching as Grey remained unscathed while nearly a hundred soldiers had already fallen.
No matter what they tried or how desperately they tried, it was all useless against Grey.
Meanwhile, Grey's body steadily recovered already to his prime and pristine state.
By the time the sun had reached dawn, Grey was drenched, soaked in blood. Not his own, but that of his enemies.
The ground beneath him was slick and stained crimson, rising to around his knees.
The remaining soldiers knelt, eyes wide and pupils frozen, their will to fight utterly broken.
"Ho. Ha." Grey took ragged breaths, every fiber of his body exhausted, his vision blurred crimson from the blood of his foes. Мy Virtuаl Librаry Еmpirе (М-VLЕМРYR)
He tilted his head and met the king's cold stare:
"I have almost killed all your soldiers, King. Now, come fight me."
"Hmph." The king snickered in disdain and laughed without stopping:
"You really think you're some kind of big shot, don't you? These were just expendable pawns I used to wear you down. Now that you're exhausted and your spiritual energy is drained, what more can you do to me?"
The king raised his head toward the sky and laughed maniacally, striking a "T" pose.
"After I kill you and sever your head, I'll do the deed with my daughter right in front of your severed head before I send her off to another kingdom." he spoke with a lecherous grin.
"Hehe, you're too much of a threat to be kept alive. I actually have to thank you. I'd been trying to kill you, but I never expected you to come to me on your own, how could I let such a threat remain in my enemy kingdom?"
Grey looked at the man with a blank expression.
"Who said my spiritual energy is exhausted?"
"Huh?"
The king was stunned for a moment, unaware that 'Huh?' would be the last word he ever spoke.
With a bright flash, Lilith appeared, and Grey summoned Drayken.
Swish!
A giant image of a white-scaled dragon instantly covered the sky.
The people around were instantly horrified at the sight, their bodies trembling uncontrollably.
"What, scared already?" Grey chuckled, pointing directly at the king.
The majestic white dragon's pupils locked onto the king. The sky darkened as clouds gathered, and the rumble of terrifying thunder echoed through the area.
The king gulped hard, barely able to contain his fear:
"W… what are you trying to do? I still have your lover, so I advise you to—"
"She is my friend, not a lover and you were never worthy of being her father." Grey was utterly disgusted with this man.
Bang!
A bright flash erupted. The king hastily summoned his Diamond Harmony Grimoire, but all his defenses were shattered by the black lightning. In the blink of an eye, his existence was erased. The diamond Grimoire evaporated along with him.
Ahhh.
Grey fell to his knees, staring at the sky as he cried out loudly. Blood seeped from his eyes, that attack was Aura Lightning, and the backlash was overwhelming to his body.
Just then, at his most vulnerable moment, a silver spear shot forward…
