Chapter 28: Death of an old hag...
He rubbed his dry and calloused hand on her smooth skin. From his point of view, with her upside down and her clothes falling off her head, he could see glimpses of her breast hidden underneath her sports bra.
He felt hotter and hotter and couldn't contain himself any longer. He reached down to touch her boobs but with his short arms he couldn't quite reach her but still he kept on trying.
"Jezz, I hope mom doesn't catch me."
Bang!
The sound of gunfire echoed through the woods and a loud scream followed it, an intense cry of pain and the snakes grew frantic as blood dripped on them.
"I'm sorry mama!" He cried. "I'm sorry, I wasn't going to do it, I swear!"
His leg had been shot and the shot had been so powerful that the rest of his lower leg was hanging on by a string of flesh about ten sizes shy of a thread.
His lips quivered as he couldn't bear the pain he spun around and looked at the tree tops, trying to find the direction the shot had come from. Then it dawned on him that it might not be his wife after all.
"Where is it? Who's hiding out there? where are they?"
She tightened her grip on the sharpened piece of wood.
"Where are you!?" He screamed. His face was covered with sweat and exhaustion as his leg slumped to the side, falling off the bridge and stretching the string of flesh to its limits.
He screamed in pain and turned to see his severed leg fall into the pool of snakes, "No!" He cried and in that instant she pulled her whole weight up like an athlete doing an upside down sit up and the instant he saw a flash of her jet black hair, she sent the shared wood straight into his throat.
His eyes quivered and blood ran down his mouth. "Oh birdie," he said in a cracked voice. "You shouldn't have."
He slumped over and joined his severed leg at the bottom of the snake pool. She pulled herself up on the bridge. She saw the blood around her and wondered who it was that had saved her.

"I'm a sitting duck"
Bang!
The kite dropped William's near lifeless body on the branch of a very large tree, there were no snakes on the tree so he was safe there but yet he was dying and dying fast.
He could see everything in a blur and he saw what looked to him like a moving smudge swinging its way towards hi. .
'They've come for me,' he thought, he couldn't move, he could only feel the venom wrapping around his heart.
He saw someone land beside him, then they grabbed him but still he couldn't tell who it was, suddenly his vision went blank and all that came up was what felt like memory but still it was her again and she was still waiting.
She checked her watch a couple times and he felt his heart sink. He couldn't tell but the person he had mistook for his assailant was actually Nod.
Nod was shaking him and screaming at him to keep fighting but he couldn't hear him at all, all he could hear were the faint voices around him that seemed to grow louder and louder.
"He's dying sir."
"I know, I can sense it."
"But what do we do?"
"Nothing, we've lost."
"But if it releases at this level, could it?"
"It would, it would destroy everything and everyone in the outskirts of purgatory. I had hoped he would at least make it to the heart."
"But can't we save him?"
"We could, but that in and of itself is quite risky, he's too unstable to risk it and worse, Dorma will sense our interference, so we'll let him die and when the next batch comes we'll see if we can pull someone new."
"But wouldn't that…."
"It could… I could die the next time I try this again but I can't help it, there's no time left today."
"Who are these people?"
"Sir, I think he can hear us."
"So even now it's still working, I'm proud, it twisted our frequency on us, I'm very proud. Sleep William, sleep, it'll all be okay, you'll see her soon."
William slowly felt himself falling into a deep sleep, his body was still conscious but this was something else, his soul and whatever little light illuminated his mind was now gone and his body was soon to follow.

With a single touch the old man transferred several items he had gathered to Ingrid. "Now go, I'll hold them off."
"But there's five of them," Ingrid said. "Let me at least help then we can go."
"There's no time, he needs you, if it's ass% you say it then he must be in a far worse condition than you remember, enough time has passed for it to kill him, I just hope he's still fighting. You need to go, I'll be fine."
Ingrid turned and left in a hurry and the old man cocked his rifle and hid behind a tree then.
bang!
A bullet hit the side of the tree sending a flurry of splinters flying directly at his face.

Ingrid ran as fast as she could but not as carefully, the urgency of the situation wouldn't allow for that.
Usually with her special tool she would constantly scan the place as she ran to make sure she was all alone but she had failed to do so now as she was fully focused on getting to William on time.
"Come on William keep fighting, don't you die on me, now when I'm this close."
She saw that the bridge she was on was coming to an end, she had braved it despite the snakes, taking a couple bites and losing a couple minutes in the process but that didn't matter.
"Come on William, just keep fighting."
Bang!
The sound of gun fire so close shook her to her core, her mind was consumed so much worry that it startled her more than anything had in her whole life. It felt like the sound of everything coming to an end.
'Am I hit?' It took a moment before she realized she wasn't hit but instead it was the rope bridge that had been shot. The bullet had severed the ropes and it all began to crumble into the pool of snakes.
"damn it" She cried as she jumped up and grabbed onto a branch over her head.
"You damn witch! What have you done with my husband!*
"Mama, she's pretty, if we kill her can I keep her."
"Shut up!"
'Who the hell are these idiots? I've got no time for this.'
Ingrid quickly swung herself back and forth till she built enough momentum to throw herself unto another branch..
"Looks like we've got an Olympian on our hands. I don't even know what that idiot sees in you! Here you go son, shoot at her! if you get a clear shot, you shot, okay!"
"What are you gonna do mom?"
"I'm gonna kill her myself."
Ingrid was about to throw herself at the next branch but she couldn't help but feel a mix of luck and discomfort all at once.
She felt that for some who had shot out her bridge with a single shot, would find no challenge in shooting her who'll she was swinging on the branch, it would be no different from her standing still or was that perfect shot just a fluke?
Ingrid timed her swing but before she could make her move, she heard curses coming at her like bullets.
"You're gonna die! You dirty, filthy, shit eating whore!"
The mother was out in the open, her crazed youthful face glowing in the beams of sunlight she swung past on a vine as she headed directly for Ingrid with a black machete on one hand
"Die you old hag!"
'Old hag? I've got perfect skin now?' Ingrid turned and with one look at the crazed women she could predict her future with an accuracy that would beat any time traveler.
She knew if she stayed there or attempted to move forwards or backwards, she would either lose an arm or her head or both.
The branch she had planned for was out of the question, it was a forward move, and a head or an arm wasn't worth the risk.
So instead she…..
