My System has a Glitch

Chapter 39: Unsuccessful..

The spider jumped at them and William quickly leaped towards Ingrid, knocking her out of the way. The spider flew past them and landed on one of the men.

He screamed and ran toward the other one who was already trying to jump off the tree. His cries got even louder as the spider sunk its fungs into his skin.

William and Ingrid quickly got on their feet and they could only watch as the man slowly turned red with his body decaying from the venom.

Of the three players, one had a press jump off and the other was cowering on the edges.

"Damn it!" William said."That one had the bombs"

From the interactions of the men he had already deduced which one of them had the explosives. Before he could react Ingrid ran in and grabbed the man's hand.

"Ingrid no!"

The man's eyes popped and Ingrid gasped as she stared into his hollow sockets, as what remained of his eyes drained away like water through a sink.

The redness and decay creeped up his arm heading toward Ingrid's hand.

"Got it!" Ingrid said as she managed to infiltrate his guide and steal all the explosives she could.

"Watch out!" William said and immediately Ingrid felt a pull on her hair, it was the rotting man, he should be dead. 'How could he still move that fast.'

The redness crept up the man's hand and then her jet black hair slowly turned red from where he had gripped them.

'It's infected her!' William thought as he dashed in, and swung the sharpen tree bark Ingrid had even him .

He easily cut through her hair as it had already been damaged by the red effect. He freed her from the rotting man grip.

She ran off to the side and William moved back as the walking corpse turned its focus to him.

'It seems that spider has taken control of him, this thing keeps getting deadlier and deadlier.:

'All I've got is that brass knuckle and I can't punch this away, I can't risk touching it.'

It backed William into a corner leaving him no choice but to jump off the tree if he wished to escape. He looked back and saw the water and a few vines but before he could make his move the corpse crumbled before him.

William knew he had no chance to catch a breather, as long as that spider was still around then the worst was yet to come.

'Where is it, the more they looked around the steam rising from the corpse obscured it. Every one was on edge, they were all too scared to run away, too scared to turn their backs to it and too scared to face it.

The last man of three stared at the shattered corpse of his friend and his face grew more weary and more frightened. He searched around for the creature but long er it was out of sight the more his tension rose, soon he was heaving and they all could hear he was having a panic attack then he blurted out

"Just how much did you take from him!"

Ingrid didn't answer, they were both trying to keep calm as best they could and his frustration grew and he screamed at her again.

"Answer me! Damn it"

But before he could finish, the spider jumped at him, it grew to the height of a little boy in an instant but the man was already standing by the edge of the tree.

Seeing the spider coming for him made him jump off the tree which sent him falling into a tangle of vines.

Due to his uncoordinated jump he got caught up in one of them, it wrapped him around the neck, strung him out and broke his neck in an instant, leaving him dangling like a spider in the wind.

"We've got to jump," William said but the spider had already turned its attention to them and they slowly backed away to the edge of the tree.

"We've got to leave him with something," Ingrid said. "a parting gift perhaps."

"What have you got in mind?" William asked.

The spider screeched at them, it was now the size of a standard table and was about to jump at them when they heard a gun shot and the spider got hit with a bullet that knocked it to the side.

"It's pops! We've gotta go."

But first, Ingrid swung her hand towards it and in a flash a round silver object about five times the size of a hockey puck materialized out of her guide.

it landed beside the spider and the lights on it turned on, showing it was active and they had only three seconds till it explodes.

They both jumped out of the tree and the mine exploded, blowing away as many branches as it could and setting the tree on fire.

They grabbed onto the vine and made it to the safety of a different tree. William helped Ingrid up the tree and they stood on the edge of it and looked out at the burning tree.

William caught a glimpse of the other man still dangling on the vine,he sighed and dropped his head.

It was a sad way to go, but still the better of the two.

William heard a strange sound behind him and Ingrid called his name in a cold alarming way like there was danger just like back then when she had seen the spider.

William turned to his surprise he met a group of fellow players but they all had guns and they were all pointing at them.

"Now, don't you make any sudden movements, or I'll send you home early, understand!" one the men in the group said.

There were a total of four of them, three guys and a girl, and William guessed this guy was the one in charge here.

William sighed, he had gotten weary of all the fighting, it had been one thing or the other ever since he set foot in this jungle. So much so that in the presence of monsters, human conflict seemed like a big joke to him and he couldn't help but find their guns a little funny.

Oh no sir, William said. Please don't send us home, our parents are very cruel to us, they call us fat and beat us with olive branches.

No one else seemed to find the humor in it but Ingrid which only put them in more trouble.

"So you're a joker too huh? drop your weapons!"

William slowly reached for his back pocket to grab the tree bark. He kept his eyes trained on them, reading their slightest reactions, everyone seemed more savage and more unstable than the next, like at the slightest out of place movement they would open fire right away.

'This world has really gotten to them,' William thought. 'I can see it in their eyes, they've killed before I'm sure of it or else they wouldn't have this many guns.'

William through the bark on the floor and immediately the man exploded,

"What the hell is that thing! I meant real weapons!"

"You don't want to underestimate that thing."

"Enough joking around, I know you've got explosives."

"No, he did," William said.

"Who?"

Wilaim turned around and pointed to the corpse dangling by the vines.

"That guy had it all, it's a shame really too bad you can't get it while they're dead."

"Then how the hell did you blow that thing up."

"It was the last one, he threw it before he jumped off unsuccessfully."

"You're lying to me and I know it."

The spider screeched from within the fire and they all turned and looked at it. William saw their agitation grow ten fold and knew this confrontation was pasted the point of a calm resolve, he just hope the old man had a clear shot but could he really see through that tight space, he wondered as the branch moved quite close to each other at that side, leaving a very narrow gap, only an expert marksman could shoot through.

"You can lie all you want but I'll see for myself," the man got closer to William and placed his hand on his chest.

"Oh no," William said. "This happens all the time, you've fallen for me haven't you?"

"Joke all you want but I'll take everything you have and every single second and you're gonna die."

William smiled trying his best to keep up the facade of an undisturbed jester but he had no plan all he had was hope, hope the old man go get a shot through that narrow gap. If the old wasn't out of commission already.
