My System has a Glitch

Chapter 41: Ten seconds?

One...Two...…Three...Four

The seconds stretched out to excruciatingly long moments, and William couldn't help but feel like something would go wrong at any moment.

He looked at Ingrid as the whole structure shook, she did well enough to balance herself even with one hand on the loot and leaning forward.

William worried a bit about her, with her hand on that thing she was a target now.

Then he heard clicking noises, like the one they had heard before, only the noise was a lot smaller and sound layered, like two, no three, maybe four sources were making and they were all over lapping on each other.

"What's going on!"

*I'm almost done," Ingrid said.

William looked around, something was going wrong,he could sense it. He looked at the far end of the web structure and saw a red spider about the size of his hand crawling towards them.

He said nothing, not single reaction, he just kept calm for Ingrid sake

I'm in, she said.

William looked to his left and saw two more coming from that end and then to his right and when he glanced back he saw what he guessed to be sixteen large spiders crawling on the webs towards them.

"Oh Ingrid, remind me again how long would the extraction take?"

"About twenty seconds, why?"

"You know at first I thought ten seconds was for the whole thing, but now I know better, I think we better get the hell out of this place."

Ingrid raised her head to look at him but instead she saw the swarm of spiders closing in on them from all sides and she gasped.

"Ready to leave, honey?" William asked and still she kept her hand on the loot, "damn it, I'm so close"

William moved closer to her as the spider surrounded them.

"Do you think they can get through our shields?"

"I wouldn't risk it, would you get your hands on that thing already? You're pissing them off!"

"I'm almost done."

William looked around trying to find a way out for them, then he got it. a vine not too far from them, if it's a man eater all the better but then the trees shook and the spider web tore in several places.

It was hard for them to keep still as the webbed structure shook, it caused William to fall on the loot, forcing Ingrid's hand off it.

"Oh god, I was so close," she gritted her teeth and a hard a vicious anger on her face but that all fade into a softened look of surprise and then dread as she saw the giant spider blaring eyes as it made its way to them

"William, what are we going to do?"

William raised his head and saw the face of his fate, the eight shining red eyes, the fangs, tipped with deadly poison, larger than tree trunks and were certain to cut a man in half. William knew he would be that man if he didn't find a way out of here.

What stuck out to Ingrid more were the hairs on the spider, they were very sensitive and reacted to every slight movement, like they were their own living being, it gave her a crawling sensation all over.

William hadn't seen a moment's rest, it had been one trouble after the other with no chance of him catching a break. He had been so distracted by worry that he still had the old notice waiting at the corner of his pov,

[ACTIVATE NONE (GliTcH)]

[YES] [NO]

In and of itself, it was a glitch in his system for the notice not to have disappeared this long.

The spider screeched, expelling whatever little hope they had left. William saw nod riding a kite their way but that gave him no hope, he was just too slow to get there on time.

'Alright, glitch it is.'

[NONE, GLITCH ACTIVATED]

A single streak of lightning shot out of his chest and it startled him so much he knew he had to protect Ingrid, he grabbed her and covered her and the spider lurched in and swallowed them whole.

So many glitch notices filled his vision, disappearing instantly just for many others to take their place, but that didn't bother him. What did was the sensation that he was falling, but how could he, by his knowledge he was just swallowed whole.

With the glitch notices still flickering about he managed to catch a glimpse of the spider not only that, the webs as well.

"William!" Nod cried, hold on. He swung his hand but nothing came out, "Shit I forgot my system limit is two items."

Nod quickly dissolved his flame thrower and turned his kite in their direction as they were falling. He saw streaks of lightning shot out of William's body but made no note of it as he was fully focused on saving them from the fall.

He swung his hand and his last kite came out and it flew downwards, locked on to William's presence. It went straight at him and straight through him without being tethered.

What! Nod cried then he heard a loud screech and he turned around to see his whole pov eclipse by the giant spider as it tried to swallow him.

Nod quickly swung away, having no choice but to leave his sister and William to their fate. William tried to grab onto a vine but his hand went straight through it.

Nod made a sharp turn as he tried to block the spider with a tree but the spider maneuvered and heavily grazed its body against the tree, keeping itself on a direct course to its prey.

Nod quickly pulled out his flame thrower and aimed its nozzle at It. He sent a blast of blue flame directly at the spider.

The spider screeched as the flames engulfed it and Nod took the opportunity to make his escape.

William reached for every life line he could but they all went through, while Ingrid kept her eye shut and her head pressed against his chest.

'No, this landing could kill us both!'

They fell into the pool of water but the landing wasn't as hard as he had anticipated, in fact he felt like he was still falling.

"What the hell is this," William said.

He looked up and he could see everything, through the shimmering water, he saw the spider blinded by the fire as it crashed into a tree.

Ingrid opens her eyes and almost lets go of him as she was beyond startled. They had fallen through the earth and were now completely surrounded by darkness. It felt like they were partially falling and partially floating all at once. She looked up and saw all the chaos above.

"William, where are we? What is this place?"

"I don't know, I think we're underneath everything."

"But how?" She said in complete disbelief.

"I don't know, I think it's the ability, remember? I told you about it."

"Yeah"

Ingrid was still shaken up by everything but she was alive and that joy alone drove what worry she had about where they were now,at least for the moment.

"I'm just glad we survived that," she said. "I thought we were goners."

"Yeah me too"

"But how do we get out?"

"Huh? Get out?"

"Yes, how do we get out?"

William couldn't hide his worry as he had no idea how he even got here to begin with, let alone how to get out, so instead played it off,

"Hey why are you in such a hurry, can't we stay here a little while and reminisce about how far we've come?"

Ingrid wasn't quite in the mood for jokes but still she said,

"Yes,that sounds like a great idea"

"Really?"

"Not only that, how about we start a family here too, having too little williams floating around here doesn't seem like a bad idea."

"I know you're joking but still I'd start a family with you anywhere just name the time and place, just no here, I've never tried it while floating."

He lightened up with a smiled and said with laughter in her voice, " Oh william you animal"

They had managed to calm each other down at a moment of immense uncertainty and danger, no real intention whatsoever. They were both just trying their best to keep a level head.

William looked up again, and saw the water simmering and spider on the tree, then he sighed and said,

"Boy are we screwed."
