Chapter 916: Unafraid of Attacks
In summary, Gu Lan inherited the Power of the Heaven Path. He did so to protect the people around him, not to watch them leave one by one. His true energy surged, and with a single step, he vanished in a blur. The trouble here had come to an end for now, and it was time to return to the Human World. He had been away for several days and wasn't sure what the current battles looked like.
Because of his integration with the Great Path Qi, even his Blood Demon Kung Fu had been purified. As a result, Gu Lan's speed was ten times faster than before. While it took him several days to get here, it took only a few days to return.
But just as Gu Lan was racing forward, he suddenly felt a presence lurking behind him, tracking him from the shadows. Gu Lan's speed was remarkable, and at this moment, he felt a distinct difference. Whoever was following him had powers comparable to his own.
At first, Gu Lan ignored it, but after a few moments, he realized that the figure wasn't letting up in their pursuit. This irritated him. Fine, he thought, if you won't stop, then don't blame me for being ruthless.
He stopped in mid-air, above a cloud. Summoning the Hongmeng Sword, Gu Lan's eyes swept across the sky, and he pierced through the distance with a single glance. His pursuer, though moving at an incredible speed to hide, could not escape his gaze.
"Stop hiding. Your method won't fool me," Gu Lan's voice echoed from all directions.
The figure froze for a second, then slowly withdrew their power, appearing to make peace.
"Careless!" Gu Lan muttered to himself, then took a good look at the stranger: a handsome man clad in black robes, holding an iron fan. The man stopped just a hundred feet away from Gu Lan, giving a polite bow with a faint smile.
Gu Lan's expression turned cold as he spoke. "Who are you?"
The man smiled and replied, "Just a wanderer, nothing more. I noticed your extraordinary presence, so I decided to follow and see for myself."
Though the man claimed this, Gu Lan was not fooled. He poured true energy into the Hongmeng Sword, and a harsh screech filled the air as the sword's blade flickered with flames, creating thousands of sword shadows.
"You think I have time to joke with you?" Gu Lan's tone turned icy as his killing intent surged.
The stranger took a cautious step back, his smile fading into forced politeness.
"I'm not looking for trouble. I will introduce myself... I am Xuan Feng," he said, a bit of tension slipping into his voice.
Gu Lan chuckled. "Still not telling the truth."
He couldn't be bothered with this man's games. The level of his power was not enough to pose a threat.
"Is that so?" Gu Lan's expression shifted in an instant, and before Xuan Feng could react, Gu Lan struck.
The sky itself seemed to shudder as the sword flashed downward with a tearing sound.
Xuan Feng, startled, immediately retreated. He knew that if he hesitated even a second longer, he would face death.
Gu Lan wasn't intending to kill him, however. The blow was deliberate, slowed just enough to warn Xuan Feng off without ending his life.
The sword's light faded, and the sky dimmed as it had been partially shattered. Gu Lan vanished into the distance before Xuan Feng could react further.
Xuan Feng stood, his eyes glinting with something unreadable. "Master Gu, there's no need to rush. We will meet again, sooner or later," he murmured before vanishing in a swirl of black mist.
Gu Lan didn't slow down until he ensured that the man was no longer following. There was a nagging feeling in his mind about Xuan Feng's true identity. The man's power was not as strong as his own, but something about him felt hidden, something elusive.
But for now, Gu Lan had no time to waste on this. He would deal with Xuan Feng later if the man caused trouble.
A few moments later, Gu Lan arrived back in the Human World. The Jing Nation palace was not far, so he tempered his power and slowed his descent. However, just as he was about to land, a flash of cold light appeared behind him.
The attack was incredibly fast, and Gu Lan was momentarily stunned. He spun around, dodging, and then counterattacked with a palm strike.
Boom!
The impact exploded, sending a figure flying out into view. Gu Lan's eyes darkened as he recognized the energy signature.
"Wizard Clan!" he spat, the recognition hitting him like a wave.
He had expected these enemies to pursue him eventually, though he hadn't anticipated it would happen so soon.
"Daring to attack me from behind, then you'll leave no life to escape with!" Gu Lan gritted his teeth, his Hongmeng Sword flaring to life.
The sword's energy had fully recovered, and Gu Lan took the opportunity to test its strength. With a single swing, the sword released flames that lit up the entire sky.
The Wizard Clan member didn't move, his expression stoic, as if indifferent to the incoming attack.
Gu Lan was surprised, but before he could process the situation fully, the sword light descended, cutting through the figure before him.
Gu Lan assumed the problem was over, but to his shock, the Wizard Clan member emerged unharmed, surrounded by a strange, black aura. The power was several times greater than before.
"Die!" the man's cold voice rang out, and he disappeared into the shadows, moving faster than ever before.
Gu Lan's eyes locked onto him, and in an instant, he was on the move, cutting off the man's path with a swift dash.
Before the Wizard Clan member could react, Gu Lan grabbed him by the throat and slammed him into the ground.
Boom!
The ground shattered beneath their impact. Gu Lan gathered his strength and swung the sword downward without mercy.
The blow pierced the Wizard Clan member's body in a single strike.
"Pathetic," Gu Lan muttered as he drew his sword out.
He flicked the blood off the blade and began to turn, but just two steps later, the Wizard Clan member stood up unnaturally, his body moving as though it were not alive.
Gu Lan paused, eyes wide. He could feel the life force of the man had disappeared entirely.
Before he could react, a burst of blood-red light shot straight toward him.
The attack was sudden, and Gu Lan was momentarily taken aback, but he quickly swung Hongmeng Sword, shattering the bloodlight.
His gaze hardened as he locked onto the Wizard Clan member again.
"I don't believe I can't deal with you!" Gu Lan's patience had worn thin. The sword in his hand trembled as thousands of sword lights appeared.
Since ordinary attacks couldn't kill him, Gu Lan would destroy him completely.
The sword lights lashed out with devastating force, tearing through the air. The surrounding space trembled under the pressure.
When the sword light faded, the Wizard Clan member's body had disappeared completely, leaving only the smell of blood in the air.
Gu Lan's aura withdrew, his expression hardening. He wasn't sure what had just happened, but one thing was certain: the person he had just fought was no longer human.
