Chapter 66: My Wives Of Simulation [66]
Chapter 66: Seeded Player Busujima Saeko?
_____
"Kendo competition?"
Seeing everyone looking at him, Elric didn't feel nervous at all. "This thing… even if you ask me, I don't know."
He turned his attention to Haruno and shook his head.
If you asked Elric to talk about kendo, he could definitely say a thing or two. After all, he had spent a considerable amount of time sparring with a swordmaster from Avalon. The King of Glory himself was an expert in combat.
But if you asked him to recommend someone proficient in kendo, he would honestly have no idea.
Does Mouri count? She could kick through telephone poles with karate.
However, a faint impression surfaced in his mind. It seemed like he had met someone skilled in kendo before.
Her name was... "Busujima Saeko."
Shaking her head at Elric's unhelpful answer, Haruno sighed. She realized that Elric was just here to mess around today. Knowing that asking him any further would be futile, she wrote two names on the blackboard.
"As the top seed for this kendo competition, the highest-ranked and most popular participant is the leader of Fujimi Academy's kendo club, the daughter of a renowned kendo family, Busujima Saeko."
"And the second is Yuuki Asuna from Ain Academy. Unlike Busujima Saeko, this young lady has displayed astonishing talent in kendo despite only a year of training," Haruno continued.
After posting the details of Saeko and Asuna in the student council chat group, Haruno elaborated further, "At present, these two are considered the strongest seeded players in the national 427 competition."
"I also contacted a few kendo players from Toyogasaki University. While they mentioned that they don't have any trouble participating in the preliminaries, there is still quite a significant gap for them to overcome to reach the finals."
"Even though men of the same age may have a strength advantage over women, kendo isn't merely about physical strength. It's a combination of martial arts, skills, talent, reflexes, and more."
"So, I hope everyone can offer me some advice. Although I know it's highly unlikely, Toyogasaki university still hopes to achieve a respectable ranking in this competition."
After slightly bowing to the group, Haruno conveyed how much effort she was putting into this for Toyogasaki's benefit. After all, the University provided the student council with an activity fund of 5 billion yen every year. If she failed to accomplish this, she would feel too embarrassed to continue as the student council president.
"Busujima Saeko… the name sounds a little familiar," Yuki muttered, looking at the information about her on her phone.
Suddenly, Yuki jumped to her feet. "I remember it now!"
"Yuki, you scared me half to death!"
Chika, seated next to her, flinched in shock.
"Does Suou have something to say?" Haruno asked, intrigued by her sudden outburst.
"Ah, it's nothing, really. It's just…" Yuki trailed off, hesitating as she glanced over at Elric.
"It's nothing. It's just that I played tennis with Busujima Saeko back in junior high school—and I won that match," Elric interjected, speaking up before Yuki could finish.
Back in junior high, Elric had just lost his parents, and life with Sora had been financially challenging. Given his age, there weren't many ways for him to earn money.
Thanks to his exceptional physical abilities since childhood, he tried his hand at several popular sports to see if any could lead to competitions that offered prize money.
And as it turned out, he was quite talented in tennis. In just three months, he managed to win first place in the national junior competition, which significantly alleviated his financial struggles at the time.
His opponent in the finals? None other than Busujima Saeko.
"Junior high? Tennis?"
Having never heard of what Elric said, Haruno looked up the original information. A large headline, "Congratulations to Elric for Defeating the Kendo Genius," caught her attention.
"No, isn't this Saeko from the kendo club? Why is she playing tennis?"
Looking at Yuki suspiciously, Chika tilted her head. She didn't recall this incident from junior high. Although she and Kaguya attended the same school back then, and she spent every Saturday and Sunday playing with Yuki, she had no memory of any tennis competition involving Saeko.
"Ah… This…" Yuki stammered before turning toward Elric. "Elric, please explain it for me."
Even someone as elegant as Yuki had her shy moments. She wasn't comfortable sharing the details of what happened between her and Elric in junior high. Choosing to dodge the topic, she "kicked the ball" to Elric and quietly sat down.
"Well… Actually, it's nothing much," Elric began. "I participated in a tennis competition when I was in junior high. I was naturally talented and made it to the national finals."
"My opponent in the finals was Busujima Saeko. According to her, playing tennis helps improve overall body coordination, so she would occasionally play to relax in her free time."
"Maybe I was just lucky, but I won the final. Back then, the national competition didn't have separate categories for boys and girls, so we competed together."
Reflecting on the match from four years ago, Elric recalled that Saeko seemed genuinely surprised to lose. After the game, she even said something cryptic about giving him an unforgettable memory the next time they met.
"Tennis competition? Is that so," Haruno muttered, her curiosity piqued.
Considering that Elric might also know kendo, she glanced at him and asked pointedly, "Elric, don't tell me you're going to say you also know Yuuki Asuna."
"I don't," Elric replied, shaking his head. 'I've never met her. Unless we're talking about before the time travel, then sure, I've read about her in two books.' he thought.
"Well… Let's get back to the main topic. Does anyone have any recommendations?"
The conversation shifted back to the matter at hand: finding someone from Toyogasaki who could stand out in the kendo competition. As Haruno expressed her concern, Kaguya raised her hand.
"Although my knowledge of kendo is limited, I can participate in the competition if needed," Shinomiya offered.
Due to her natural talent, Kaguya was well-versed in martial arts like naginata and held a first-dan rank in aikido and a second-dan rank in judo. Her confidence in her skills was evident.
Suzune chimed in, "If I remember correctly, the Kanto region karate champion, Ran Mouri, is also a student at Toyogasaki this year. Wouldn't she know something about kendo?"
The group began discussing potential candidates. As everyone was lost in thought, Yukino suddenly spoke up.
"Um… Everyone, I have a friend who said she might be able to do it."
With her lips pursed, Yukino hesitated before continuing. She was referring to none other than Utaha, who had just sent her a private message in the chat group.
