Chapter 49: Chapter 48: The Plan Begins
Felt was unusually happy today.
Although she had grown up in the slums, she had not resigned herself to fate. Instead, she had used the gift the world had blessed her with, the 'Divine Protection of Wind' to become a nimble thief.
Today, she had received a simple yet highly rewarding commission: to steal a badge of some sort from a silver haired half-elf.
After successfully stealing said badge, she used her agility and familiarity with the town to quickly lose the silver-haired half-elf.
Then, she had an unexpected bonus!
Some clueless idiot had been walking around the streets with a money pouch blatantly hanging from his waist!
Since he had crossed paths with Felt, it was his bad luck!
"Haha, wow~ So many holy coins! There must be at least 20 here! I'm rich! Felt finally has enough money to leave the slums and stop being a thief! Sorry, clueless idiot! Even without your money, make sure to live well, okay~"
After silently mourning the man whose pouch she had stolen, Felt hid the money pouch in her tattered pants' pocket and prepared to make a quick escape.
That silver-haired guy was clearly an outsider, so Felt felt confident and bold enough to steal from him!
"Hey, little girl, it's nice of you to pray for me, but calling me an idiot is a bit much, don't you think?"
A deep voice suddenly rang out behind her, and Felt's entire body stiffened, her hair standing on end. Without looking back, she bolted.
*Thud!*
Felt ran straight into the man who had somehow appeared in front of her, falling flat on her back.
"Ouch~! Why are you so persistent, mister? You don't seem like you're short on money. Just do a good deed and let me go!"
Felt's expression changed as she looked at Graham who was smiling at her. Her red eyes darted around, as if scheming something.
Seeing Graham's skills, she realized she had run into a tough opponent and immediately played the pity card.
"Don't worry, I'm not here to take the money back. But..." Graham placated.
"But what?" Felt shivered, sensing something ominous.
Graham smiled and said, "As you can see, I'm not short on money, but I am short on acquaintances. You're quite cute. How about becoming my maid or attendant?"
"Attendant?" Felt's face twitched.
Now she understood, this guy not only wanted his money back, but he also wanted her!
He wanted both her and the money!
"What, you don't want to? Then I'll have to follow the rules of Lugunica. Thieves who steal from nobles have their hands chopped off..." he threatened.
Hearing this, Felt turned pale and immediately clasped her hands together, begging for forgiveness and agreeing to his demands, pretending to compromise, "I-I get it! I'll be your maid or attendant! Please spare me!"
"Wise choice. Remember, my name is Graham M. Mathers, and from now on, you'll be serving me!"
"Yes, Graham-sama! I'll remember..." Felt answered cautiously. She knew nobles were not to be trifled with.
But if you thought she would just give in like that, you'd be dead wrong!
Who knew what this noble would do to her? She had no intention of becoming a maid!!
"Then tell me your name, little girl in tattered clothes?"
"How rude! It's not like I chose to dress like this..." Felt pouted, clearly annoyed.
But given the circumstances, she still answered, "Felt. My name is Felt, Graham-sama."
"That's a nice name. It suits you," Graham nodded in satisfaction, then turned around, "Let's go, little maid. Today... huh?"
When he turned back, the golden-haired thief named Felt had already disappeared.
"Haha, this is getting interesting~"
Graham looked pleased.
If he guessed correctly, another transmigrator, Natsuki Subaru, had already arrived!
How did he know? Well, he had just experienced a world reset.
The overwhelming black mist had swallowed the world, and time had rewound.
Fortunately, he had activated the 'Perpetrator and Victim' domain in time, avoiding the subsequent memory reset.
He could have also used his 'Mystic Eyes of Death Perception' to destroy the effect, but the strain would have been too great, not worth it.
Besides, it seemed the black mist had no intention of harming him, so he allowed it and the shadowy hands to enter his domain, resetting his time.
In other words, he had experienced a 「Return by Death」due to some rookie's demise.
As for finding Felt, that was even easier.
Felt's 'Divine Protection of Wind' was rudimentary. Since no one had taught her, she couldn't use magic and could only rely on the divine protection for agility.
When she had stolen his wallet earlier, he had already identified her. That's why he had placed a wind-attributed lesser spirit on her.
This was how he could easily track Felt down.
Based on his memories, the transmigrator named Natsuki Subaru possessed the Authority called 「Return by Death」, a blessing granted by the Witch of Envy.
This ability was incredibly powerful and had great potential for his current plans.
Think about it, if the world didn't develop as he wished, he could just stab Subaru and start over. How satisfying was that?
Moreover, due to the black mist protecting Subaru, Graham vaguely understood that the 「Return by Death」 blessing couldn't be stolen, at least not yet.
At most, he could use his 'Mystic Eyes of Death Perception' to kill Subaru directly, but that would mean no one else would take the fall.
As for his 'Perpetrator and Victim' ability, Graham didn't want to use it too much.
The activation condition was 'death', and he had no intention of dying repeatedly. Dying too many times would lead to unfavorable outcomes, he had a premonition of this, thanks to his Mystic Eyes.
Roswaal possessed a book left by the Witch of Greed, the 「Tome of Wisdom」, which vaguely recorded information about the 「Return by Death」 ability...
Therefore, Roswaal would definitely observe Subaru closely and carefully plot against him.
Through Subaru, Graham could invade Roswaal's mansion at the most opportune moment and take everything from him!
