Chapter 346: Ch 346 : The Prelude to World Collapse

"Judging by your expression, you recognize this old man," said the Sage of Six Paths as he gazed at Makoto and spoke slowly.

How strong was the Sage of Six Paths?

Makoto wasn't sure.

A thousand years ago, he and his brother had sealed away Kaguya because she was immortal—impossible to kill.

What kind of strength did the Sage of Six Paths possess after a millennium?

Perhaps only ghosts knew.

Makoto considered himself invincible in the present world, yet even he dared not be arrogant before this man.

"I do recognize you..." Makoto murmured.

Standing nearby, Kabuto watched the Sage of Six Paths and his Rinnegan with evident shock.

He was certainly familiar with the Rinnegan—after all, there was a pair stored within his research facility, which he had studied for a long time without making any significant progress.

Sage of Six Paths then shifted his gaze toward the grand hall.

He lightly tapped his black staff against the ground, and Makoto and Kabuto watched as two streaks of light shot forth and vanished.

"They were meant to go to the Pure Land," the Sage of Six Paths stated.

"..."

A sudden thought crossed Makoto's mind—could it be that the Sage of Six Paths controlled the Pure Land, and had come here to question him because the Solarity Tower had summoned those two souls?

Based on the Sage of Six Paths' appearances and actions in the original work, this possibility did seem plausible.

"There's no need to be so hostile toward me," said the Sage of Six Paths.

"I am already dead. What you see before you is merely a fragment of my chakra. Besides, I do not interfere in the affairs of the living so easily. You are now the ruler of humanity, and that, in itself, is actually a good thing for this world."

Makoto's eyes flickered slightly at the Sage's words.

He asked, "Why have you come? Is it because of those two souls?"

"Yes and no," the Sage of Six Paths replied ambiguously.

"In the past, I would have advised you not to tamper recklessly with souls. But now…"

His voice was deep and solemn, his expression grave and serious.

"Hyuga Makoto, I hope that you can save this world."

Upon hearing this, Makoto's eyelid twitched slightly.

This world… what had happened to it?

He felt like this Sage of Six Paths was acting suspiciously, almost like a con artist.

Was he about to start preaching some "Child of Prophecy" nonsense like that toad from Mount Myoboku?

"What do you mean?" Makoto asked slowly.

"The Shinigami, who governs reincarnation, recently visited the living world. Shortly after, it suddenly fell into a deep slumber. Without the Shinigami's management, the Pure Land has become a place of chaos, and the souls of the living now have no place to go."

Makoto's eyes filled with surprise.

He understood the Sage's meaning now.

If what he said was true, then it also explained why the Solarity Tower had begun summoning souls.

The souls of the deceased are always summoned by the Shinigami.

Makoto had learned this during his research on souls alongside Orochimaru.

When attempting to transfer souls into new bodies, they encountered numerous obstacles precisely because of the Shinigami's presence.

However, souls from other worlds were not affected by the Shinigami's summons.

Makoto had utilized this loophole when constructing this grand hall.

If the Shinigami was no longer overseeing the souls of this world, then it made sense that they had become the target of the Solarity Tower's summons.

This Sage of Six Paths probably wasn't here to waste his time.

Makoto asked, "Why did this happen?"

Sage of Six Paths slowly spoke a single name: "Orochimaru."

Makoto was immediately shocked upon hearing this.

The Sage continued, "Over the past few years, a large number of souls have emerged. After investigating, we discovered that these souls were not the result of natural deaths but were instead fragments of Orochimaru's own soul, which has been continuously splitting."

"Though they are mere fragments and have become so weak that they barely retain their original power, each of them remains an independent entity. The rate at which Orochimaru's soul splits is astonishing. Over the past few years, the number of fragments has reached an unimaginable scale. Because they exist as souls, they haven't directly affected the physical world."

"Orochimaru seems to have realized that his soul's division is uncontrollable, so he attempted to seal himself. However, the seal did not fully contain him. Countless soul fragments continued to escape and further divide."

"If this continues, the sheer number of souls will reach an overwhelming level. More recently, these soul fragments have begun absorbing the natural energy of the living world to strengthen and restore themselves. This forced the Shinigami to intervene."

"Orochimaru's soul fragments have grown too numerous to be allowed into the cycle of reincarnation. If they were to enter the Pure Land, it would cause a catastrophic disturbance. As a result, the Shinigami chose to eliminate and consume them instead. However, this process drained an enormous amount of the Shinigami's power, leading it to fall into a deep slumber. No one knows how long it will take for the Shinigami to recover."

After explaining everything, the Sage of Six Paths patiently awaited Makoto's response.

Kabuto, standing nearby, was still processing the shocking information.

Though Makoto had never explicitly introduced this elderly figure, Kabuto had already pieced together the truth.

A man possessing the Rinnegan, casually speaking of concepts like the "living world," the "Pure Land," "reincarnation," and the "Shinigami" — who else could he be but the Sage of Six Paths?

The fact that the Sage of Six Paths truly existed—and was still present in the world—left Kabuto deeply shaken.

Makoto remained silent for a long time, lost in thought, before finally asking the Sage, "What would happen if we simply ignored these souls?"

Sage of Six Paths replied, "This is not just a matter of the Pure Land. The cycle of reincarnation must not be broken. If it is, the continuation of human life in this world will also be affected. You are now the ruler of mankind—do you wish to see a future where every child born among your people is stillborn? I have been working tirelessly to transfer souls from the living world, but my power alone is not enough."

Makoto asked another question, "What about Orochimaru? Is he dead?"

"You need not worry about that—he has been completely erased by the Shinigami."

Makoto finally let out a breath of relief, then followed up, "What do you need me to do?"

Sage of Six Paths turned his gaze toward the great hall and the Solarity Tower, saying, "I hope you can expand this tower and the grand hall to cover as much of the inhabited world as possible. I will oversee the Pure Land in the meantime and restore the cycle of reincarnation."

Makoto's eyebrows twitched slightly—this was no small task.

It would require an enormous amount of manpower, resources, and time.

After pondering for a while, a sudden thought struck him.

"Perhaps there's another way."

The Sage of Six Paths looked at him with a hint of surprise.

Makoto pointed to the sky and said, "There is a giant Tenseigan on the moon. I believe it alone can handle this task."

"I've already connected it to the Solarity Tower. We can use it to locate the wandering souls on Earth and bring them here."

Sage of Six Paths pondered for a moment and then said, "I will teach you the techniques for searching for and transferring souls."

Makoto nodded lightly.

But the Sage of Six Paths continued, "This is not a power that should belong to humans. Hyuga Makoto, I hope you will always maintain the order of this world."

Makoto sneered lightly. "Haven't I done enough already?"

Sage of Six Paths said nothing.

He slowly raised his hand and placed his palm in front of Makoto's forehead.

Seeing this, Makoto didn't resist.

The next moment, he suddenly felt a surge of power enter his body.

In an instant, it merged with his limbs and bones, and his mind grasped the method to use this newfound power.

"You have already mastered Yin-Yang Release. You should be able to use this power with ease," Sage of Six Paths said.

Makoto looked down at his hands; this was a power completely different from that of ninjas—it was divine power!

Suddenly, he reached out and slapped the shoulder of Kabuto standing nearby.

In an instant, Kabuto's soul left his body, floating in mid-air, while his physical form collapsed to the ground.

"Your Majesty?" Kabuto's soul, in a stunned state, looked at Makoto in confusion.

Makoto lightly waved his hand, and Kabuto's soul returned to his body.

Kabuto opened his eyes, his gaze filled with disbelief.

With a mere gesture, Makoto could control life and death.

Sage of Six Paths knew Makoto was testing the power and did not stop him.

"No wonder you said this isn't a power that should belong to humans," Makoto said, looking at the Sage of Six Paths.

"Does this mean I'm a god now?"

Sage of Six Paths replied calmly, "There are no gods. The Shinigami is just a title. This power was granted to me by him."

"Hyuga Makoto, you've done what I once tried to do when I created the Ninja Sect… no, you've done even better. There's no harm in you possessing this power. I believe you won't harm this world."

His words made Makoto's heart stir.

He asked, "Then, what exactly is Shinigami?"

Sage of Six Paths said, "The Shinigami is an existence older, stronger, and more selfless than I am."

Makoto then said, "There's a forbidden technique among ninjas, called…"

"That's just part of Shinigami's power," the Sage of Six Paths seemed to anticipate his words and spoke first.

"…"

"I don't know much more about him. There's no need to ask further."

Finally, Sage of Six Paths said to Makoto, "I will manage the Pure Land, and the world of the living will be entrusted to you."

He came to Makoto solely because of the issue of soul reincarnation.

This made Makoto regard him with a measure of respect.

Such a sage, concerned about the world, deserved to be honored.

Makoto didn't have many things to do, or else he wouldn't have agreed to this matter so easily.

However, he never imagined that one day he would become a deity overseeing the reincarnation of souls.

"From now on, this great hall shall be called the Reincarnation Hall, and ordinary people are not allowed to enter or leave."

Makoto looked at the great hall and said to Kabuto.

Upon hearing this, Kabuto bowed deeply.

After everything that had happened, his respect for his Emperor had only grown stronger.

The Emperor was a god!

Makoto placed the soul transfer technique within the great hall.

Souls that came here would be transferred to the Pure Land.

He then went to the moon and made some modifications to the giant Tenseigan Eye there, enabling it to search for souls on Earth, then guide them to the Solarity Tower in Konoha and the Reincarnation Hall.

Once all of this was done, the giant Tenseigan Eye immediately responded.

Every day, countless people on Earth died, and countless new lives were born.

Even though the Shinigami had just fallen into a deep sleep, during the time he had turned his back, countless souls appeared.

They were all guided by the Tenseigan and made their way to Konoha, only to be transferred to the Pure Land.

After carefully observing, it seemed like these souls were lining up.

They were purely souls, without any chakra. Bound by the Tenseigan, they couldn't do anything but passively accept everything.

...........

Late at night, it began to rain heavily in Konoha.

Makoto held Ayari in his arms and slept especially soundly amidst the sound of the heavy rain.

Boom!

A thunderclap suddenly startled Makoto awake.

He opened his eyes, but his gaze was unusually clear.

It wasn't the thunder that had woken him, but something else.

He quietly got up from the bed, not disturbing Ayari.

The clothes on the nearby clothes rack flew over by themselves and draped over him.

He walked out of the sleeping quarters, and the sound of the rain outside was deafening.

He looked up at the sky, his expression filled with shock.

Before him was an incredibly narrow, pitch-black rift in space, extending from the Temple of Reincarnation straight up to the heavens, with no visible end.

Before this space rift, even the light from the Solarity Tower had dimmed.

A figure appeared in an instant—it was a member of the Anbu.

"What's going on?" Makoto asked, still gazing at the rift.

"A monster suddenly appeared in the Gakkai Domain. Lord Hakumen has already gone there."

The Gakkai Domain referred to the moon.

Since the moon remained a secret, it was given a different name.

Some had heard of the Gakkai Domain, but they only knew it was a top-secret place, with no idea of its location.

A monster... Where did a monster come from on the moon?

Makoto's expression remained calm as he pondered.

When he had previously visited the moon, he had already scanned it.

There were no signs of life there anymore; it was just a barren place with some abandoned structures.

His gaze remained fixed on the rift in space.

Such a large rift... How had it appeared?

"Can't you see it?" Makoto spoke up.

The Anbu member, hearing this, looked up in confusion.

Seeing that Makoto's gaze was focused in one direction, he also looked toward the space rift above the Reincarnation Hall.

But from his vantage point, apart from the heavy rain, he could vaguely see the Solarity Tower, and nothing else.

He leapt into the air, intending to investigate further.

The heavy rain poured down, but it didn't touch him.

The dense raindrops parted as they neared him, falling aside on their own.

Just as Makoto got closer to the space rift, he suddenly sensed something and looked in one direction.

Through the rain, on a utility pole, stood a shadow.

Makoto's eyesight was extraordinary, and he clearly saw the person's appearance and figure.

A black kimono, a sword at her waist, short hair falling to her shoulders, and a small stature.

It was a girl.
