Naruto: Chakra System

Chapter 39: [CHAPTER 39] Naruto's Compassion, From Annoyed to Sympathetic (Almost Too Quickly)

'Damn it!! This geezer is the worst client. I should give him a shot on the face.' This was what Naruto had thought when Tazuna insulted them.

But remained utterly dumbfounded and shocked when he saw Tazuna flying the next moment, and Kakashi's last words made all three Genin even more surprised.

Sakura asked, "Kakashi-sensei, what do you mean by him lying about mission difficulty?"

Naruto pointed his finger at the downed Tazuna, and asked, "Hey geezer, did you lie about something important?"

Sasuke also narrowed his eyes, staring at Tazuna. Tazuna himself got more tensed under Kakashi's kunai on his neck, and feeling that he got caught.

Kakashi sighed at the reactions the Genin gave, but said to Tazuna, "You hire us ninjas, then even disrespecting us and acting like you know everything, when you have no actual idea what ninjas really are. Plus you even lied about the mission rank, now tell us the truth, I wanna hear it from your own mouth, otherwise, we aren't going to move from here."

Kakashi pulled back his kunai into his Inventory Seal and stood, staring at Tazuna with his single visible eye. A shiver ran down Tazuna's spine, as he slowly got up, wiping sweat from his forehead and blood on his mouth with the dry towel on his neck, but when he looked at Team 7 staring at him, his throat went dry, unable to think where to start speaking, his legs slightly trembling from fear.

He took a deep breath, to calm his tense nerves and started to speak. Despite all this, Tazuna still tried to play dumb and said, "Umm, Ninja-sama, y-you have mistaken, I—"

SLAP!

Suddenly a hard slap hit Tazuna's right cheek. Kakashi was getting really impatient. At first, he didn't want all this; he just wanted to take Gato's wealth and tried to let Zabuza and Haku alive if possible and didn't even want to speak with Tazuna.

However, his constant tantrum and complaining, plus his attitude towards his students, made Kakashi really frustrated, and he couldn't control himself, and wanted to beat this old shit. Kakashi's tone became more serious, killing intent leaking, tensing Tazuna even more with fear.

Kakashi said, "I told you to speak the truth, and I give you an advice, we Shinobi aren't that easy to fool, so don't even try to fool us, and if you keep playing dumb, I might slice my Kunai and kill you on the spot."

Tazuna froze, words stuck in his throat, and the killing intent that Kakashi leaked, made his whole body tremble with fear. Under Kakashi's intimidation, Tazuna gulped and gave in, understanding there was no chance to playing dumb.

Tazuna started to speak, and told how Gato, the well known businessman, had set his eyes on the Land of Waves, and hired rouge samurai, ninja, and goons to eliminate whoever stood in his way. And Tazuna's son-in-law also died because of Gato, because Kaiza stood against him, and he decided to make a bridge that connects Land of Waves to other nations; that bridge was their last hope, and he wanted to complete it.

Tazuna confessed everything, collapsed on his knees, clutching his head, and started to sob, though it couldn't be sure if he really was crying or not. "W-we from Land of Waves didn't have enough money, so... so I lied, and said this is a C-rank mission."

Sakura and Naruto, hearing his confession, felt bad for him, while Sasuke was also affected a little but not too much. Kakashi, however narrowed his eyes at Tazuna.

"You lied about mission rank, because you had no enough money to request it as a high-rank mission, but... how do you have enough to drink all the time, if you had quit drinking, maybe you could have collected enough money."

Tazuna was surprised, his eyes widened, because in his large backpack, aside from tools, there were many more bottles of sake present. Though even if he didn't have sake, the difference between the cost of a C-rank mission and a B-rank mission was still vast, and Kakashi knew it, he just said it to make Tazuna embarrassed.

Sakura's eyes twitched; she had already noticed that from the time they had met Tazuna, he had already drunk two bottles of sake, and the one broken due to the fall, was his third. "Well, whatever, I understand your situation," Kakashi said, crossing his arms.

"However, you lied about mission difficulty, and this puts Ninja's lives at high risk, and do you think while doing this, everything will go smoothly, huh?"

Tazuna stammered, "U-um, I... I just..."

Kakashi cut in and explained, "For C-rank missions, this is the team the village sends, with one Jōnin and Genin squad or two Chunin usually, and Gato has hired rouge samurai and ninjas, most of the time, the result would be in the death of you with your hired ninjas."

Tazuna gulped; he also understood what Kakashi was saying. He lied about the mission difficulty, and expected that Konoha would send a squad full of elites, which was obviously not going to be the case. And with this lineup, defeating Gato and his men, even buying enough time so the Bridge could be complete, wasn't much possible.

Kakashi said, "If you had told Hokage everything truthfully, he might have done something about it, lying didn't only put the lives of ninjas at risk, but also yours. Then if you die, what about the bridge and your so-called last hope of Land of Waves?"

Naruto said, "Yeah, if you told the truth, Old Man Hokage, he would definitely helped you."

Sakura also said, a hint of panic in her voice, "You didn't have to lie like this, w-what if Kakashi-sensei didn't know about it and we... we were to d-die?"

Tazuna, wiping his tears, said, "The Daimyō of our nation also is quite poor, and I don't think that any village would go directly against Gato if I told them that he was targeting us now, so that's why."

A small silence descended among them for a moment. Tazuna broke this silence and asked, "Um, w-will you help us and continue the mission?"

The Genin also looked at Kakashi. Naruto and Sasuke definitely wanted to do this mission; more difficulty meant stronger enemies and they wanted to fight them.

Sakura also wanted to help Tazuna and the citizens of Land of Waves, but wasn't sure if they should continue this mission; she understood that she might not be capable of doing such a dangerous mission currently. Kakashi then looked at Tazuna and answered.
