Chapter 200: Preparations

Although Baishi had decided on his target, he wasn't planning to act immediately.

As the saying goes, "Before the soldiers march, prepare the provisions."

If he were to strike, it would be with overwhelming speed and force. Thus, thorough preparation was paramount. And fortunately, he didn't need to handle everything personally.

With a thought, Baishi activated Mind-Link Jutsu, connecting with Hotaru and Natsuki.

"Come see me," he instructed.

"Yes, my lord!"

A moment later, there was a knock at the door.

"Enter."

The door creaked open, and Hotaru and Natsuki walked in together, dropping to one knee.

"My lord, you summoned us?"

"Indeed."

Baishi nodded, his gaze sweeping over the two.

Hotaru's transformation was especially notable. Compared to his frail and pain-ridden state months ago, he now radiated vitality.

This was no coincidence. During his research on the meteorite's radiation, Baishi had incidentally cured both their lingering ailments, resulting in their marked improvement.

Returning his focus, Baishi calmly outlined their next tasks.

"You're to leave immediately. There are two missions."

"Your orders, my lord!" Hotaru said earnestly.

"The first," Baishi began, "is to investigate Takigakure and its surroundings. Pay special attention to a girl named Fū—she's the Seven-Tails' jinchūriki."

Seeing them nod, he continued, "Second, find a wandering monk named Rōshi. He's the jinchūriki of the Four-Tails. He may still be traveling the world, or he may have returned to Iwagakure. Pin down his whereabouts as soon as possible."

Although Baishi had prioritized capturing the Seven-Tails, he wasn't going to overlook the Four-Tails. If Rōshi was still outside Iwagakure, he'd seize the opportunity.

However, the Four-Tails' retrieval was secondary in priority.

Receiving their instructions, Hotaru and Natsuki resolutely replied, "Rest assured, my lord. We will give it our all!"

"Good."

Satisfied, Baishi added, "I'll assign additional personnel to assist you. Remember, you have only..."

He paused briefly, calculating the time needed for Energy Absorption to advance, then resumed, "...one month to report back. No exceptions."

At Level II (88.1%), his Energy Absorption would likely reach Level III in about a month, based on its current progression. The timing was ideal for acquiring a new tailed beast to offset his increasing chakra demands.

Hotaru and Natsuki acknowledged without hesitation.

"Yes, my lord!"

"Very well."

Waving them off, Baishi said, "Make your preparations."

"As you command."

Once they departed, Baishi shifted his focus inward. Using the Mind-Link Jutsu, he relayed tasks to several subordinates through their mental imprints.

With everything in motion, Baishi exhaled deeply.

"Indeed, training is the most straightforward," he muttered.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, Baishi summoned the System, setting new goals to further his evolution.

A month passed in the blink of an eye.

In the training room, Baishi opened his eyes, gazing at the faintly glowing purple meteorite before him.

"The results are becoming less impressive..."

Despite his efforts to suppress Radiation Resistance, it had naturally progressed to Level V over time.

The meteorite's radiation, once a significant force in accelerating his physical evolution, now barely affected him.

This wasn't solely due to Radiation Resistance. His new ability, Absolute Adaptation, had gradually conditioned his body to the radiation. Together, they rendered the meteorite's effects negligible in a surprisingly short period.

"Still..."

Opening the System interface, Baishi's eyes landed on Energy Absorption: Level II (99.1%).

A satisfied smile appeared.

Even without drawing new energy types into the fold, advancing Energy Absorption to Level III would dramatically enhance his ability to harness natural energy. The resulting energy surplus would more than compensate for the meteorite's declining utility, pushing his evolution speed to new heights.

However, all of this hinged on capturing the Seven-Tails. Without it, none of these plans could materialize.

"I wonder how Hotaru and Natsuki are progressing?"

As if on cue, the sharp cry of a hawk pierced the air outside.

Baishi's lips curled into a smile.

"Speak of the devil."

Extending his arm, he gestured for the messenger hawk to land.

The hawk circled briefly before descending, perching gracefully on his forearm.

Removing the message tube, Baishi quickly broke the seal and read its contents.

His smile deepened.

Both Takigakure's situation and Rōshi's whereabouts had been successfully uncovered.

Rōshi, it seemed, was still wandering the ninja world.

"So bold," Baishi chuckled, shaking his head.

Though he'd heard of Rōshi's clashes with Ōnoki, it was surprising that the jinchūriki remained undeterred. If the man was so willing to flaunt his independence, then Baishi wouldn't hesitate to act.

Connecting via Mind-Link, Baishi instructed Hotaru and Natsuki to await further orders and to refrain from rash actions.

With everything in place, Baishi returned to his training room. Sitting cross-legged, he summoned the System and initiated the final push for Energy Absorption's evolution.

At Level II (99.1%), it wouldn't take more than a day.

Dawn broke the next day.

Baishi opened his eyes, exhaling a long breath of relief.

Finally, Energy Absorption had advanced to Level III (0.1%).

"Now let's see if it lives up to its potential."

Murmuring to himself, Baishi infused chakra into his space ring, activating the Flying Thunder God: Guidance Seal etched into it. A portal of swirling darkness appeared before him.

Without hesitation, he stepped through.
