Chapter 99: Chapter:21:5th level!
Naruko's clones had been tirelessly searching through the endless expanse of crystals, their hands brushing against countless surfaces. Finally, a victorious cheer echoed through the cavern as multiple clones dispelled at once, relaying their findings.
"We found five blood-red crystals, dattebayo!" Naruko grinned, holding up the shimmering red stones.
Yuto smirked. "Good. This will make things harder for the rest of the teams. If we take all five, no one else will be able to complete the level easily."
Hitomi nodded in agreement. "So, what's the plan?"
Yuto quickly unrolled a scroll, placing four of the rare crystals inside and sealing them with a swift flick of his fingers. "We'll keep these stored for now. As for the last one, we'll use it to move on."
Hitomi took the final crystal and approached the blue crystal pillar where the instructions for the fourth level were inscribed. She placed the blood-red crystal onto the pedestal, carefully aligning it with the center of the seal. Taking a deep breath, she pushed her chakra into it.
Poof!
A burst of smoke erupted, and as it cleared, a samurai clad in steel armor stood before them, his posture initially stiff with surprise. His gaze swept over Team 7 before he spoke.
"I didn't expect anyone to reach the fourth level so quickly," he admitted, his deep voice carrying a hint of respect.
Naruko puffed out her chest. "Heh, we're just that good!"
The samurai quickly composed himself. "Regardless, congratulations. You have successfully passed the test."
The samurai then turned on his heel. "Follow me."
Without hesitation, Team 7 trailed behind him, navigating through the glistening maze of crystals. Naruko frowned, glancing around. "Wait a second… My clones searched this whole place already. There's no exit here."
The samurai didn't respond. Instead, he calmly reached for the hilt of his sword, chakra beginning to flow through the blade.
Yuto's Kamigan flared to life, the Scanner ability analyzing every movement. 'His chakra flow technique is insane… It's beyond what even Kakashi can do. If I can replicate this, my swordplay will improve by leaps and bounds.'
Then, in one fluid motion, the samurai thrust his sword forward—right into the crystal wall.
No cracks…?
Team 7 watched in shock. The blade had pierced straight through the crystal without a single fracture. The seemingly solid wall rippled slightly before glowing faintly, revealing a hidden seal embedded deep within.
Yuto's eyes narrowed. 'So that's it… That seal has been here the entire time. I noticed it when we first entered, but since it was just a chakra detection seal, I ignored it. To get to the 5th level, the seal will check the chakra signatures and when the encoded chakra signature, likely that of the Samurai's, are passed through it, the way to the 5th level will be opened.'
As the seal activated, a section of the crystal wall slid down smoothly, revealing a passage leading deeper into the cavern.
The samurai withdrew his sword, stepping aside. "Your path to the fifth level lies ahead. Proceed."
Yuto, Naruko, and Hitomi exchanged glances before nodding in unison. Without hesitation, they stepped forward, disappearing into the newly revealed corridor.
Behind them, the samurai sheathed his sword and pressed his palm against another seal on the ground. A moment later, his body flickered and vanished in a swirl of smoke—reversed-summoned back to the Land of Iron. The crystal wall then closed itself, sealing the door to the fifth level again.
As Team 7 moved through the tunnel, they remained on high alert. The dim glow of the crystals behind them gradually faded, replaced by an eerie coldness in the air. Their footsteps echoed slightly against the walls as they advanced.
However, as they reached the tunnel's end, they stepped into an unexpected sight.
The cavern before them was vast, its ceiling high and lined with jagged stalactites. Rocks and patches of snow were scattered across the ground, and an unsettling chill seeped into their bones.
But what truly caught their attention was the lone figure sitting in the middle of the cavern.
An old samurai, clad in worn yet regal red armor, sat on his knees. Before him lay a katana, its blade resting atop the frozen earth. The moment Team 7 entered, his presence seemed to intensify. Slowly, he lifted his head, acknowledging their arrival.
Yuto's gaze flickered past him, and his breath hitched.
Behind the old samurai stood a monstrous three-headed dog.
'A summon like a Cerberus?!' Yuto's mind raced. The beast's massive bodies radiated raw power, each of its heads bearing sharp, menacing red eyes that glowed faintly in the cavern's dim light.
Hitomi's Sharingan activated in an instant, her crimson eyes locking onto the katana in front of the samurai. A pulse of energy rippled off it, sharp and controlled.
'That sword… It's emitting strong chakra…! No, it's atleast as strong as a B-rank ninjutsu!'
Her instincts screamed danger.
"DUCK!" she shouted.
The trio barely had time to react before the samurai's hand flicked forward, gripping his sword in a single fluid motion.
SWISH!
A blinding slash tore through the air, passing right above their heads as they threw themselves to the ground. The attack didn't just stop there—it extended outward, slicing clean through several large rock formations in its path before finally dissipating.
A chilling silence followed.
The old samurai lowered his sword, standing tall as his deep voice resonated through the cavern.
"The fifth level has begun."
Team 7 quickly scrambled to their feet, adrenaline rushing through their veins as they prepared for battle. The samurai's piercing gaze fell upon them.
"You must endure for ten minutes against me. If you succeed, you pass."
His grip on his sword tightened.
"I am Daichi, the previous leader of the Land of Iron."
The trio stiffened in shock.
'The former leader?!' Yuto thought, his Kamigan swirling to life. This old man was likely elite Jounin to low kage level in kenjutsu and chakra flow technique from what little Yuto could gather, and that was not taking into fact the summon behind him.
Before the trio could fully process the weight of his words, the Cerberus behind Daichi let out a guttural growl, its three heads baring their fangs in unison.
Daichi remained calm, his face unreadable. His features were lined with age, his eyes barely open—similar to how Brock from Pokémon appeared. Yet, despite his aged appearance, his presence was suffocating.
His red armor looked ancient, yet it carried an unbreakable aura of authority. It was similar to Hashirama and Madra's from the warring states period! His black katana, tinged with a faint blood red hue at its edge, pulsed ominously in his grasp.
As his gaze lingered on the trio, he silently wondered, 'Will they discover the true meaning of this test? The true goal hidden within it?'
Without another word, he took his stance.
The battle had begun.
