Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Subjugating the Mizukage

"So this really is the Bloody Mist... even the fog reeks of blood that won't fade."

You had no intention of stirring up trouble upon arriving in Kirigakure. The last thing you needed was for Black Zetsu to detect your presence early and start deducing your weaknesses and goals.

To avoid being discovered, you'd made ample preparations in advance.

Before setting out, you'd used Genjutsu to connect to White Zetsu's consciousness, borrowing his sensory ability for a test.

The results were clear: with both your Transparent Escape and the Dustless Bewildering Cover layered together, White Zetsu couldn't sense you at all.

Of course, this meant you had to keep your own activity to a minimum. Fortunately, with your level of stealth, combined with the buoyancy from the Lightweight Boulder Technique and the mobility of Flying Thunder God, you didn't need to fight much to complete your objective.

To limit unnecessary actions and avoid complicating things...

You circled Kirigakure once before doing anything else.

This reconnaissance gave you a decent grasp of the village's current situation:

At this point in time, the Fourth Mizukage—Yagura, also the Jinchūriki of the Three-Tails—was still alive and holding his position as Mizukage.

But the man was a tragedy incarnate, having been placed under Mangekyō Sharingan Genjutsu not once, but twice—first by Uchiha Madara, then by Obito—his will and the beast within both twisted to serve others.

Because of this, the bloodstained reign of violence in Kirigakure, which forced ninja to kill each other for survival, not only hadn't ended but had grown even more savage.

The destruction of the Kaguya Clan, Haku becoming an orphan, and even Zabuza's eventual defection—all of it was tied to this brutal regime.

Besides the Mizukage, the next most influential figure was Genshī, a village elder who wielded authority equal to the Mizukage.

However, his chakra had long since withered away, and judging from his behavior, he wasn't even a shinobi by origin—one of the rare cases of a civilian rising to power in a hidden village.

Within Genshī's faction were some of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen, the sensory ninja Ao with the Byakugan, and a rising star named Mei Terumi, a dual Kekkei Genkai user of Boil Release and Lava Release—potential Mizukage material.

You also discovered Kirigakure's Ninjutsu Research Facility.

Contrary to your expectations of a rundown, regressive lab, it was anything but. Despite the oppressive politics, their advancement in ninjutsu and ninja tools was impressive—reminiscent of Orochimaru's methods, even.

There were signs of Bloodline Limit research as well. Using your Uzumaki sensory abilities to scan the area, you detected the perfectly preserved body of a Kekkei Genkai user.

That scent—wind and fire… Scorch Release! No doubt about it.

Sifting through your memory, you identified the corpse: Pakura of Sunagakure. Her death was nothing short of a disgrace—betrayed and buried by internal strife before she could realize her Kage-level potential.

Around the outskirts of the village, you also noted the ravaged remains of the several other exterminated Kekkei Genkai bloodlines. These clans had centuries of history—though pillaged, they still housed valuable seals and barriers worth investigating later.

"Mizukage... Three-Tails... Byakugan... Genshī... Mei Terumi—all useful. Scorch Release… Pakura… feint to the east… ancient ninja clan ruins… too central, postpone for now…"

After this initial scouting, a plan began to form in your mind.

Not long after, Genshī returned home to find a strange letter carved into a shard of ice lying on his desk—alongside a golden mask.

The letter was from the leader of the Mask Organization, inviting him to join and promising to share rule over the shinobi world ten years from now—on one condition: he must covertly help the organization seize control of Kirigakure.

If he accepted, he was to wear the golden mask—and in return, you'd share with him an important secret.

If he refused, then… you'd share the truth in another way.

As expected, Genshī rejected the offer and threw the mask to the ground.

Exactly what you predicted. After all, a man who rose to power in a shinobi village despite being a mere civilian couldn't be underestimated. He'd never surrender control willingly.

That night, Genshī awoke from a nightmare—only to find the golden mask gone.

But the slowly melting ice shard on the floor made the whole affair feel all too real…

...

Right now, you possess a Six Tomoe Sharingan, your Ocular Power so potent it could shatter stones with a glance. With both of Uchiha Itachi's eyes as a reference, your Genjutsu: Time-Space was nearly indistinguishable from Tsukuyomi itself.

With your first plan failed, you shifted tactics.

Focusing your Ocular Power from afar, you subtly manipulated the blood flow in Ao's body—not to steal his Byakugan, but to induce an untraceable discomfort.

No matter how many times he sought treatment, no cause could be found—his health appeared perfectly normal.

Repeated occurrences like this drove Ao to the edge.

Eventually, during a gathering with both Genshī's faction and the Fourth Mizukage in attendance, you seized control of Ao once more. Finally unable to bear it, Ao tore off the seal on his Byakugan in a last-ditch attempt to understand what was happening inside him.

The moment Ao unveiled his Byakugan, you activated Flying Thunder God, instantly teleporting to a location on the other side of the village—near the research facility.

Back at the meeting, the first to react to Ao's action was the Fourth Mizukage.

Before Ao could even apologize, he noticed something shocking—inside the Mizukage's brain, a faint Mangekyō imprint.

Noticing Ao's intense stare, Yagura—his true consciousness still suppressed by Genjutsu—reacted on instinct, attacking a member of Genshī's faction.

A full-scale battle broke out in an instant.

...

Though Mei Terumi had immense chakra and dual Kekkei Genkai, her combat experience was still limited. Her combined Bloodline Ninjutsu briefly held back Yagura, but once he activated his Tailed Beast Cloak and charged in for close combat, she quickly fell behind.

A single blow, empowered by the Three-Tails' chakra, left her spitting blood—her light outer robe nearly shredded.

She was just moments from death at Yagura's hands...

Thankfully, some of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen from Genshī's faction arrived in time to rescue her.

But their numbers were incomplete. They could only rely on their swords' unique abilities to barely keep up with the not-yet-fully-Tailed-Beast-transformed Yagura.

Fortunately, Mei recovered quickly. With Ao's Byakugan guiding her, she located a weak point in Yagura's chakra cloak.

Combining her dual Kekkei Genkai, she launched a precise Ninjutsu assault, breaking through the Tailed Beast Cloak.

The sealing squad arrived just in time, subduing the Mangekyō Genjutsu chakra in Yagura's brain before he could fully transform.

With his mind restored, Yagura no longer resisted.

As he recalled the hazy torment of his mind-controlled days, he silently accepted the situation.

Watching it all unfold within your expectations, Genshī frowned.

"Is this what you meant by 'another way to tell me'?"

But this method… was it not underestimating Kirigakure's strength a little too much?

...

Meanwhile, having used Flying Thunder God to withdraw from the scene, you waited patiently until all the guards near the Ninjutsu Research Facility had been pulled away.

Then, you slipped in through a window—ready to take Pakura's preserved body.
