Chapter 133: Chinoike Extinction

After the First Great Ninja War, most of the older generation in the Chinoike Clan gradually passed away. There were fewer than 15 Chinoike Clan members left in Konoha, while in Uzushiogakure, their population flourished, growing to 200 people.

Setsuna played a key role in this change. He secretly visited Konoha and convinced most of the remaining Chinoike Clan members to leave. Only the elders, who were waiting for their final days, remained behind.

Even Mikoto Chinoike's parents were taken to Uzushiogakure, with Setsuna making sure Mikoto witnessed his actions. Although Mikoto parents was initially reluctant to leave Konoha, they eventually followed the elders' orders, as they trusted Uchiha Setsuna more than Sarutobi Hiruzen.

The elders stayed in Konoha as a diversion, not wanting to raise suspicion, particularly from Hiruzen and Danzo.

One day, Danzo visited the clan with the intention of recruiting the Chinoike into Root. However, his timing was poor, as two clan members had recently passed away, and their funeral was being held.

The remaining thirteen members looked at him.

"What an honor to be visited by a Konoha higher-up," greeted the elder, Shino Chinoike.

"I'm sorry, we came at a bad time," replied Danzo.

"It's alright. So, what brings you here?" asked Shino.

Danzo had originally planned to say he came because he heard someone was dying, but instead, he awkwardly mentioned the poor timing of his visit. Unable to take back his words, he stated his true purpose.

"We're here to recruit the Chinoike Clan into Root," Danzo revealed.

Shino, recalling his conversation with Setsuna, remembered that Setsuna had advised the remaining Chinoike members to leave Konoha, especially after Sarutobi Hiruzen had approved the creation of a new Anbu division called Root.

Setsuna had already shared his theory that members of the Chinoike Clan might be invited to join Root. Now that the theory had become a reality, he felt relieved that he had made the decision to relocate the remaining clan members.

"Sorry, but we won't be joining Root," Shino replied.

Danzo frowned, his anger evident.

"Do you intend to become rebel ninjas?" Danzo accused.

"Rebels? Why?" Shino asked calmly.

"Root was established by the Hokage. By refusing to join, are you rejecting the Hokage's authority and intending to rebel?" Danzo retorted.

Shino became angry, and his black eyes turned red as he activated his Ketsuryūgan.

"Attack them!" Danzo ordered.

The Root ninjas hesitated but ultimately followed the order. Before the fight could escalate, they quickly fell into a genjutsu.

Unlike the Sharingan's genjutsu, the Ketsuryūgan operates differently—it requires either physical contact or direct eye contact to work.

"Shino-sama, what should we do with them?" one of the elders asked.

"Subdue them and summon the Hokage," Shino ordered.

The orders were carried out, and after a brief beating, they called for the Hokage.

Hiruzen, busy with his duties, was suddenly interrupted by the message.

"What? Danzo attacked the Chinoike Clan?" Hiruzen exclaimed in disbelief.

"He said he came to teach us a lesson and even accused us of being rebel ninjas," responded a Chinoike shinobi.

"Danzo..." Hiruzen muttered, clicking his tongue in frustration.

He dashed out of his office, accompanied by Anbu, and headed to the Chinoike Clan's location.

Seeing the Hokage arrive, Shino greeted him and offered a stern warning.

---Root Downsized---

In the original timeline, Danzo could force any clan member who wasn't the heir or the leader's son to join Root. If they refused, he would throw out accusations like, "Are you trying to rebel?"

Most of them complied because the Hokage backed Danzo, but this was only a few years after Hiruzen had become Hokage. His influence wasn't as strong as in the story, so when Danzo tried to intimidate the Chinoike Clan, it ended badly for him.

Before Hiruzen could say anything, Shino spoke up first.

"Why are you accusing the Chinoike Clan of wanting to rebel against Konoha?" asked Shino Chinoike.

Hiruzen, hearing this, was confused, as were the other shinobi who had gathered after noticing the commotion at the Chinoike residence.

"Wait a minute, when did I accuse the Chinoike Clan?" asked Hiruzen.

"Danzo came here and forced us to rebel against Konoha," Shino replied.

"Rebel? Do you really intend to rebel?" Hiruzen asked, his tone accusatory after realizing this was Danzo's wrongdoing.

"We rebel? Hahaha," Shino laughed. "Dear Konoha shinobi, the Hokage is asking if we want to rebel!"

"That's not what I meant," Hiruzen responded quickly.

The other clan heads were now eyeing Hiruzen.

"Before accusing us, look at how many members our clan has left," Shino said.

It was like a reality check, and every shinobi began counting the Chinoike Clan members.

"One... two... five... ten... thirteen..."

"Hokage-sama, there are only 13 members of the Chinoike Clan left," an Anbu reported without being asked.

"Exactly, 13 members left and Danzo forced us to join Root. When we refused due to our small numbers, he accused us of treason and wanting to rebel against Konoha," said Shino.

"What?"

"How can that be?"

Other clan heads were also being visited by Danzo, as he had asked some of their members to join Root.

Some willingly followed, while others were forced. He hadn't managed to recruit members of the Aburame Clan because of Toka, being a Jinchuuriki, was protected by the Senju Clan.

"Hokage-sama, how could only 13 remaining members of our clan possibly want to rebel against Konoha?" Shino questioned.

"We never forced you to join Root. I will make sure Danzo faces punishment for this," Hiruzen assured.

"Okay, but will you promise that Danzo will no longer be able to force others into joining Root or brand them as traitors if they refuse?" Shino asked.

"I promise. From now on, anyone joining Root or Anbu will do so willingly, not by force," Hiruzen replied.

"Good," Shino said and everyone heard Hiruzen's promise. This meant they no longer had to fear Danzo, as he couldn't force anyone to join Root anymore.

"But why does your clan only have 13 members left?" Hiruzen inquired.

"Our clan is dying out after living in the Valley of Hell," Shino revealed. "Just today, we held a funeral for two of our members who passed away."

Shino decided to keep the information about his clan leaving Konoha a secret.
