Naruto : I Became the Daimyo of the Land of Grass

Chapter 53: War is Coming Again

For some reason, hearing the word tractor from a seasoned shinobi felt strange. shinobi inventions were supposed to be weapons, right?

If it were a chakra cannon, it'd feel more normal. After all, the shinobi world usually saw shinobis as killing machines!

Looks like over the last few years, some mindset shifts had taken root here in the Land of Grass. Charlie walked over curiously and tapped the machine, then chuckled, "still sounds pretty loud."

"Loud? We actually reduced the power of the Wind Release so the noise dropped," Yojin said, a bit surprised by the comment from the lord.

Then he sighed and explained, "Every autumn harvest for the past three years, the whole Land of Grass has to mobilize.

Kids help out after school; even some shinobis get sent to assist in the fields. But it still takes a long time, and sometimes heavy rain ruins the work. We just Don't have enough manpower, every industry is short-staffed."

The old man and the team had decided to create a machine to make harvesting easier. Gripping the tractors handle nervously, he looked toward their curious lord and asked, "What do you think, lord?"

Charlie snapped back to reality, smiling and nodding at Yojin and the others. "Its good. Really good," he said.

It wasn't a weapon for battle, but having a tractor was a big help. More importantly, this was a successful first step, and he was confident that their other research projects would succeed as well.

"A smashing success! Congratulations to everyone!"

Just as he finished speaking, a familiar voice called out urgently. Charlie turned to see Kado running toward them, looking anxious. "lord! lord! Konoha's White Fang, Sakumo Hatake, has died by suicide out of guilt!"

Charlies eyes widened in shock. "What?!"

Konoha's White Fang was known as a genius shinobi, incredibly powerful and respected throughout the Land of Grass. During the Second Shinobi World War, when the legendary Sannin of Konoha launched their offensive against the Land of Rain, most of Konohas forces were sent there to face the Rain shinobi, led by the so-called demigod of the shinobi world.

Seizing this opportunity, Sunagakure launched a surprise attack while Konoha's defenses were stretched thin. The Leaf forces were pushe'd back repeatedly, facing the threat of devastating losses.

Then, suddenly, a man appeared. He single-handedly took down two of Sands top generals, turning the tide of battle. Not only that, he even managed to infiltrate and attempt to assassinate the Third Kazekage himself.

Although the assassination failed, he escaped without a scratch. His daring actions shocked the Hidden Sand shinobi and laid the foundation for Konohas eventual victory over the Sand.

After the war, his name echoed across the nations. lords from various villages warned their shinobi: "If you encounter the Konoha White Fang, abandon your mission first!"

Even the famed Legendary Sannin of Konoha had to acknowledge his strength and skill.

'Yet, despite his incredible power, this shinobi chose to take his own life, overwhelmed by fear and guilt.' Charlie sighed deeply, reflecting on how the Land of Grass had once tried to reach out to him.

But what could be done? Talent was everything to the Land of Grass, and he was a rare gem.

Unfortunately, he was a traditional samurai-style shinobi who believed in honor above all else. When faced with accusations, he chose to end his life rather than defend himself with words. Such a man was impossible to persuade to defect.

"Although Konoha tried to suppress the rumors, claiming the White Fang died a hero's death and quickly covering up the truth, that didn't fool us Kusa shinobi," said Mujie, a shameless fellow, lamenting the loss of such a strong comrade. "Who would have thought that such a powerful shinobi could be undone by mere rumors?"

Next to him, Youma sighed quietly. "None of us expected Konoha to come to this. To die like that… what good is being called a hero if you can't live with it?"

"Isn't that enough?" Kado replied from across the room, showing no regret. "Konoha lost a strong shinobi, and That's what matters. What business is that to us, Kusa shinobi?"

The question hung in the air, catching everyone off guard. He had a point, the tail wagging the dog. Now that they were shinobis of the Kusagakure, what did it matter if Konoha lost a shinobi?

How did that concern them? In fact, if a powerful force in a neighboring great nation weakened, wasn't that something to celebrate?

Of course, for Charlie, that wasn't the real issue. What truly mattered was the looming threat of the Third Shinobi World War.

Before Charlie could speak, Mujie stepped forward. "Reports from Kusa shinobi across the lands say the atmosphere in the shinobi world is tense. Kumogakure, in particular, seems to be secretly plotting something.

Meanwhile, Sunagakure, probably frustrated from their defeat in the last war, has had their military budget cut by their daimyo. They're likely training harder than ever to prove themselves." He sighed, turning to the lord. "War might be coming again."

A sharp intake of breath echoed around the room. The other Kusa shinobi lords exchanged worried glances, hesitant to voice the thought aloud.

"Its only been a few years of peace. Could war really be starting again?"

"We Don't know for sure," Charlie replied, "but as Advisor Mujie said, the atmosphere feels different. Whether war breaks out or not, the Land of Grass must be ready."

His gaze swept across the room, his voice steady and serious. "We may be a small country, but we value peace just as much as anyone…"

He paused, noticing the uneasy looks on the faces around him. Clearing his throat twice, he forced a faint smile. "Of course, theres no need to panic. The Land of Grass will continue to do what it must."

Stockpile food, stockpile explosives, stockpile people, this war could also be an opportunity.

"We must focus on developing scientific shinobi tools, freeing up labor, and pushing forward industry, education, economy, and technology. Development is the key for the Land of Grass right now!"

He emphasized the core message for their nation.

"At the same time, we must make it clear that the Land of Grass will remain neutral. We wont take sides. Anyone seeking alliances must understand this firm stance."

Everyone nodded solemnly in agreement. Exactly, stability and steady growth were what mattered most for the Land of Grass today.

Everyone could see how much had changed. It had only been four years since the rebuilding began, but under the lords guidance, the Land of Grass had completely transformed.
