Chapter 32: Chapter 32: Moonlight Night Decision
"Qin Yu, are you finished?"
Inside the dimly lit cave, Minato Namikaze looked at Qin Yu, his tense shoulders relaxing slightly. He wasn't the only one relieved—the entire squad, including Moonlight Night, had been watching with bated breath.
No.
To be precise, everyone present, from the seasoned Jonin to the wary Chunin, had placed their silent bets.
Would Qin Yu defect from Konoha?
After all, they had witnessed it firsthand—despite his injuries, Qin Yu had performed C-rank ninjutsu with effortless precision.
Moonlight Night's words echoed in their minds:
"I would rather face a stranger than an enemy."
"What's wrong? Do you think I would run away?" Qin Yu met Minato's gaze.
"Relax, there is no one in this world who makes me afraid."
The confidence in his voice was almost unsettling. No one dared to refute him, though they exchanged uneasy glances.
Minato sighed, a wry smile tugging at his lips. "Of course, I know."
"However, both Kirigakure and Kumogakure forces have been defeated. They won't dare move for a while."
"So, the stronghold will be left in Moonlight Night's care. You and I will return to Konoha immediately. If you have any objections, speak now."
Silence fell over the cave. All eyes turned to Qin Yu.
"Is it Kannabi Bridge?"
Qin Yu had a rough idea of the war's timeline but lacked precise details.
If it was, then the Battle of Kannabi Bridge was imminent.
Which meant the Third Great Ninja War was drawing to a close.
Minato's eyes flickered with surprise. "How do you know?"
"Just a guess. Do you believe me?" Qin Yu smirked, patting Minato's shoulder. "When do we leave?"
"Tomorrow morning," Minato said, his relief evident.
The biggest concern had been Qin Yu misunderstanding the mission's purpose and refusing to cooperate at such a sensitive moment.
"That's fine," Qin Yu agreed.
His primary goal in returning to Konoha was twofold: gaining access to forbidden jutsu and ensuring Obito Uchiha's descent into darkness.
Rin Nohara would soon become Kirigakure's target, forced to host the Three-Tails and used as a weapon against Konoha.
If timed correctly, Qin Yu could locate the Three-Tails before it fully manifested, securing an immense chakra source for himself.
"I'm starving. Let's eat something," Minato announced, leading the way out.
Qin Yu followed without hesitation.
"Father, are you sure I should return with Uchiha Qin Yu?" Moonlight Blast asked anxiously. "What if he decides to kill me halfway?"
He had witnessed Qin Yu's terrifying strength firsthand and regretted ever crossing him.
For the sake of a woman, he had offended a shinobi feared even by the higher-ups.
If Qin Yu survived this war, he would become a nightmare for years to come.
"Calm down," Moonlight Night replied. "He concealed his power, only striking at Kirigakure and Kumogakure when it mattered. That proves he still has loyalty to Konoha."
"If you sincerely apologize and I offer him our family's most treasured technique, we may be able to smooth over these tensions."
Moonlight Blast's eyes widened. "Father! That technique is our clan's lifeline! Isn't that too much?"
"No." Moonlight Night shook his head. "If he accepts, it could bring new opportunities for the Moonlight Clan."
"Besides, I've made up my mind. This will be a lesson to you—learn who you can and cannot provoke."
Moonlight Blast fell silent. Under his father's unyielding gaze, he begrudgingly nodded.
"Let's go. It looks like there's a feast outside."
Beyond the stronghold, the terrain was strategically sound.
After two devastating battles, the area had been reduced to rubble.
Seventy or eighty shinobi sat around a massive bonfire, its flames illuminating the night.
The flickering light cast long shadows, the heat thickening the already tense atmosphere.
Most of the shinobi stole cautious glances at Qin Yu, visibly uneasy in his presence.
"Ahem." Yūgao Uzuki's father coughed, breaking the silence. "I caught three wild goats nearby. Tonight, we feast on roast lamb!"
The tension in the air barely shifted. Though the promise of food was tempting, few dared to relax near Qin Yu.
"I'll cook," Minato offered, standing up to lighten the mood.
Before he could move, Qin Yu stopped him.
"I've dabbled in cooking. Let me handle it." Qin Yu patted Minato's shoulder and, to everyone's shock, stepped forward.
For a shinobi, hunting three wild goats was effortless.
One of them, a particularly large specimen, had battle scars along its curved horns—evidence of its resilience.
Yūgao's father didn't miss a detail.
"Qin Yu, are you sure you can handle it?" he asked skeptically.
Qin Yu shot him a flat look.
"Don't question a man's abilities. A man who can't cook won't be loved by women. Who has extra chakra? Lend me some."
Laughter rippled through the camp.
Minato shook his head, smiling.
Only Yūgao and Shizune looked puzzled.
"Dad, what does Qin Yu mean?" Yūgao asked.
Her father coughed, cheeks reddening. "Little girl, don't ask too much. Just behave."
His flustered response made the laughter spread, lifting the weight in the air.
Minato and Yūgao's father exchanged a glance. Qin Yu, with a few words, had dispelled the lingering tension.
"Qin Yu, I didn't expect you to have a sense of humor," Moonlight Night said, stepping forward alongside his son. "If anyone has the best chakra blade here, it's me."
Without hesitation, he pulled the short blade from his thigh and tossed it toward Qin Yu.
Qin Yu caught it effortlessly.
Moonlight Night was testing him.
Without a word, Qin Yu funneled chakra into the blade.
A pale blue glow spread across its edge, but as he altered the chakra nature to lightning, arcs of electricity crackled along its length, illuminating the night.
"This chakra blade isn't bad," Qin Yu mused, examining the weapon.
Moonlight Night smiled. "If you like it, consider it yours."
