Chapter 83: Chapter 84: The Bird on the Bathhouse
"What do you mean, old man!"
Inside the Hokage Tower's office, Tsunade aggressively slammed her fist onto the desk.
"I'll compensate for the money and supplies," Hiruzen quickly replied, trying to placate her before his furniture suffered damage.
"Compensate this!" Tsunade snapped. "This is something for manga fans—Are the Daimyo and the princess manga fans?"
She glared at him. "And besides, do you even know how much I stand to make from hosting one of these events?"
"Tsunade, we can negotiate about the money. Besides, your grandmother Mito Uzumaki—"
Hiruzen attempted to bring up Mito Uzumaki's authority, but immediately noticed Tsunade smirking triumphantly. Suddenly, he felt a sense of impending doom.
"Don't try using my grandmother against me," she scoffed. "My grandmother is participating in this Manga Con too, cosplaying as Haku!"
"Nani? Mito-sama… as Haku?"
An image of pure beauty flashed through Hiruzen's mind—he quickly shook it off out of respect for elders.
He stiffened as the gravity of the situation hit him.
Up until now, he'd been confident facing Akahane because he believed Mito Uzumaki would keep Tsunade under control financially, and being a rational and responsible heroine, she would surely help persuade Tsunade to cooperate with him.
Plans rarely survive contact with reality!
His thoughts in disarray, Hiruzen quickly took a puff of his pipe to calm himself.
"From what I know, the Daimyo and the princess really are Akahane's manga fans."
Considering their current predicament, he decided to shift focus back to the Manga Con itself.
"Seriously?"
Tsunade looked genuinely surprised.
The idea that the Daimyo and the princess actually read comics was unfathomable.
"Yes, the Daimyo even issued an order to have nearby printing presses help print the manga."
"No wonder the printing has been so fast lately!"
Tsunade immediately understood.
There was simply no way Izumi Yamano's own factory equipment could produce such massive quantities of manga books within a day. It all made sense now—the Daimyo had stepped in personally.
Still, this alone wasn't enough to convince Tsunade to change her mind.
Hiruzen continued presenting terms. "As for financial concerns, I can calculate costs based on attendance numbers. Additionally, internal sales at the Manga Con won't be tax-free."
"If you're putting it like this, Master, what else can I say?"
Tsunade huffed, then waved her hand and turned away.
It was acceptable, barely.
"At this point, she should be furious enough to want to punch the table," Akahane silently mused.
Back when she was still in the Land of Whirlpools, she'd have already torn apart the entire office by now after going through all this trouble — only to see The Third reap the benefits.
"I wonder if the new comics have arrived. If timing worked out, they should've come today."
He checked his points.
476 total.
"Eight chapters. But since the Chunin Exams are coming soon, most Jonin are away from the village anyway. Slow point gain is fine—I'll just redeem some stats first."
While walking, he manipulated his interface.
It had been quite a while since his last stat upgrade. Currently, Physical Strength stood at 40 and Spiritual Power at 78.
After considering briefly, he chose to spend points on 10 additional Physical Strength and 7 more Spiritual Power.
Resulting stats: 50 Physical Strength, 85 Spiritual Power.
"Pity I'm still over two hundred short. Otherwise, getting to 90 would've been perfect."
He sighed.
Though not a severe perfectionist, round numbers always seemed nicer somehow.
"Brats, get those books unloaded now."
Hmm?
Izumi Yamano had arrived!
Akaba quickened his pace upon hearing the voice.
"Mr. Izumi Yamano, you made it here faster than I expected."
As he approached the manga shop, sure enough, he saw Izumi Yamano directing workers to unload cargo.
"Hahahaha, this shipment was massive—we almost couldn't make today's delivery."
Each book was half again thicker than before, filling up two full carts.
For Izumi Yamano to deliver so quickly showed just how strong their printing team was.
He kept giving orders to others, then moments later turned back to Akaba and said, "But honestly, time was tight—this batch might be a little smaller than usual."
"No problem. Just start with part of it. And don't forget to give your staff some extra bonuses—I'll cover it."
Akaba smiled as he spoke.
"That'd be great. Everyone's been running on fumes lately."
Izumi Yamano happily replied.
Through all their collaboration, they'd grown closer and weren't so stiff around each other anymore.
Of course,
Akaba invited them for dinner too—not only because everyone had worked hard recently, but also because he hadn't brought the posters prepared for the One Piece event or the upcoming manga con.
Since they were going to wait anyway, why not offer them something in return?
Smiling slightly, he suddenly thought of the manga con happening in a few days and casually mentioned to Izumi Yamano: "Mr. Izumi Yamano, our village will host a manga con soon. If you're interested, feel free to visit."
"Manga con? What's that?"
Yamano looked puzzled, while Sakuma Yunlang turned his attention over as well.
A manga con?
They'd never even heard of such a thing.
"You can think of it like people dressing up as manga characters, along with all kinds of special events happening at the con," Akaba explained with a slight smile.
"Besides purchased items, everything else is free."
"Free?"
Upon hearing that, Yamano immediately brightened and nodded enthusiastically. "Then count us in! I'll give everyone the day off!"
"Great!"
"Hear that everyone? Work hard—he's treating us to dinner, and the boss is giving paid leave!"
Immediately, everyone worked much more efficiently.
"Master, I want a holiday too."
Sakuma Yunlang hesitated briefly before speaking out.
"You won't need time off—you have to help me manage merchandise sales during the con."
Akaba said with a sly smile.
"Huh?"
Sakuma Yunlang blinked in surprise, then nodded uncertainly.
Elsewhere.
Tsunade left home heading into the mountains to discuss matters about the manga con with Orochimaru.
Just as she stepped out—
She noticed an unusual bird perched on the bathhouse roof, peering down at the hot spring.
"A bird? But why does something seem off about it!"
Furrowing her brow slightly, Tsunade didn't think the bird itself looked odd; rather, seeing it made her want to pummel it senseless.
Right, Jiraiya!
Putting two and two together instantly, she understood the strange feeling immediately.
Every time she saw Jiraiya acting foolishly, she always got the urge to beat him to a pulp.
And this bird gave her exactly the same feeling.
"I was actually worried he might be in a bad mood, but instead, he's sneaking around peeping into the women's bath."
Realizing the truth, Tsunade's anger instantly flared.
Unforgivable!
She leaped up onto the rooftop. Seeing Tsunade jump up, the bird immediately fled toward the other side of the roof in fright.
Didn't fly away?
Of course—it had to be that idiot Jiraiya again!
Tsunade suddenly accelerated, releasing a burst of chakra. In an instant, she dashed beside it.
Just one punch.
Boom!
The bird reverted to its human form, flying horizontally off the rooftop before crashing into a large tree outside the bathhouse.
"What was that noise?"
"I don't know, seems like it came from outside."
Some girls were chatting downstairs. Tsunade pulled her body back slightly while clenching her fist.
Outside the bathhouse, Jiraiya was panting heavily, temporarily unable to move. He felt like his bones had broken again.
"Damn flat chest, why did you hit so hard!"
Jumping down, Tsunade coldly replied, "Hard?"
Her voice was laced with icy mockery as chakra surged around her body.
"No! No! You'll use Monstrous Strength again? That'll kill someone!"
Terrified, Jiraiya's face turned pale. Immediately using Earth Release to escape.
However,
She leapt, then stomped down—the ground beneath her caved in with a crash.
Jiraiya barely managed to pop out from the edge, now even more bruised than before.
"What kind of jutsu is this? Don't hit me, let's talk!"
Feeling the monstrous strength from her foot, Jiraiya shuddered in fear and immediately knelt down begging for mercy.
"You! You!"
Seeing him kneeling, Tsunade took a deep breath before saying, "You can never peep on them taking a bath again!"
"No problem!"
Jiraiya immediately agreed.
He thought to himself, "Fine, no peeking—just gathering inspiration."
"You must impersonate Naruto Uzumaki!"
Tsunade presented another condition.
"What? Why do I have to impersonate such an idiot!"
Jiraiya grumbled discontentedly.
"Do you want another beating?"
"No, I'll impersonate Naruto Uzumaki!"
