Chapter 70: The Daimyo of the Land of Demons: Why Does It Feel Like I’ve Been Cuckolded?
Before the Daimyo could say anything, the battle below had already begun.
Crash!
The perpetually overcast sky suddenly unleashed a torrential downpour.
The extreme climate of the Land of Demons was unpredictable, changing at a moment's notice.
Guards quickly brought umbrellas for the Daimyo and Miroku, while the ninja near the arena below let the rain soak them without concern.
Each side had sent out two participants, competing in a best-of-three match.
Minato Namikaze and Jūzō Biwa had agreed beforehand not to join the fray themselves, a precaution to prevent the conflict from escalating beyond control.
After all, avoiding a full-scale war during this precarious period was a priority. Once war started, there was no telling when it would end.
The first contestants were Kakashi Hatake and a ninja named Yasuki Mitsumura from the opposing side.
The two clashed fiercely in the arena, sparks flying as their weapons collided.
"Water Release: Water Prison Jutsu!"
As Yasuki Mitsumura shouted, streams of water materialized from the air, quickly forming a membrane that rushed toward Kakashi to trap him.
"Earth Release: Splitting Fang!"
Kakashi's hand seals were much faster. Before the water could reach him, his figure disappeared, leaving behind only a pit where he had stood.
Boom!
As Yasuki Mitsumura searched for Kakashi's location, Kakashi launched a surprise attack from below, his sharp short blade stopping just one centimeter from Mitsumura's neck.
"The Konoha ninja wins!"
The guard serving as the referee announced the result.
Kakashi withdrew his blade, while Yasuki Mitsumura touched his neck with a lingering sense of fear.
"Tch, Konoha's White Fang."
Jūzō Biwa scowled as the sight of Kakashi's white hair and the gleam of his blade reminded him of someone he despised.
"Get back here."
"Yes, Lord Jūzō."
Mitsumura hurriedly returned to Jūzō's side, his face filled with shame for losing so easily.
Jūzō didn't dwell on the loss. Mitsumura was the weakest among them, and battles between ninjas often relied on strategy.
That white-haired brat, who seemed to be the heir of Konoha's White Fang, was likely their strongest fighter. Exchanging him for someone else would be a worthwhile trade.
"Mei Terumi, you're up next. Don't lose the last match. I trust you won't disappoint me."
Jūzō turned to the charming young woman beside him.
Mei Terumi was a rare prodigy in Kirigakure. Facing her was just some no-name kid, even if he was an Uchiha—it wouldn't make a difference. He would lose here.
With this, the score would be tied, and for the final match, Jūzō could send someone to defeat the medic ninja carrying the medical kit. The mission from the Land of Demons would then fall into his hands.
And with today's heavy rain, the advantage lay with Kirigakure!
Jūzō smirked inwardly.
Mei nodded and silently stepped into the arena.
"Shimizu, the next round is yours."
Minato Namikaze praised Kakashi for his victory and patted Shimizu on the shoulder.
Shimizu's strength had been evident during the bell test. He was on par with Kakashi, perhaps even stronger.
Rin Nohara, being purely a medic ninja, couldn't be expected to face off against Kirigakure.
With the rules set as a best-of-three match, Shimizu's victory would secure the overall win.
"Got it."
Shimizu nodded, used the Body Flicker Technique, and appeared in the arena, locking eyes with Mei Terumi.
"Ah, my opponent is such a handsome guy. Handsome, why don't you surrender? I'd hate to ruin that pretty face," Mei teased with a flirtatious smile, though her sharp eyes betrayed her.
Anyone foolish enough to believe her act often ended up in their graves.
"I know I'm handsome. I'll go easy on you. Let's start already."
Shimizu gave Mei a brief glance.
Though she was already well-developed for her age, it paled in comparison to her future self. Mei's true charm lay in her mature and dignified aura—qualities she had yet to fully develop.
For now, Shimizu wasn't particularly interested in her. Instead, he was more intrigued by the sacred and full-figured Miko. Could the Miko's chakra enhance sealing techniques?
In the original story, only a Miko had managed to seal Moryo and overcome overwhelming odds, so there had to be something special about them.
"Handsome, you're starting to make me angry," Mei said, sensing Shimizu's nonchalant attitude toward her.
"Water Release: Hidden Mist Jutsu."
Mei's lips parted slightly as she exhaled a thick mist that blanketed the entire arena.
Curiously, the mist stayed confined to the arena, unaffected by the heavy rain outside.
Shimizu closed his eyes. Beneath his eyelids, his once dark pupils turned pure white, with veins bulging near his temples.
The Byakugan allowed him to pinpoint Mei's position through the mist.
The Hidden Mist Jutsu, while excellent for obscuring vision, was no match for the Byakugan.
"Water Release: Water Wave Palm!"
With a sly smile, Mei launched a high-pressure water jet from her palm toward Shimizu.
Shimizu immediately recognized the jutsu.
"Not bad," he muttered, countering by channeling fire-nature chakra to his palm.
"Fire Release: Fire Wave Palm!"
Flames erupted from Shimizu's hand, colliding with Mei's water jet. The clash of elements filled the misty arena with dense steam, further obscuring the battlefield.
"This... what's happening in there?" Rin Nohara asked hesitantly.
"Shimizu is fine," Minato assured, using his sensory abilities to monitor the situation within the mist.
On the other side, Jūzō Biwa tapped his Executioner's Blade out of habit, growing uneasy.
Three minutes had passed—far longer than Mei's usual battles. Why was this taking so long?
