Chapter 142: MSOC: Chapter 142
"Psh!"
Blood sprayed, causing everyone's eyes to widen in horror. A sharp spear pierced Hidan's chest, a self-inflicted wound that sent shockwaves through the onlookers.
"He… he killed himself?!"
Kuraki paled, about to retreat, when a hand grabbed his arm.
"Save… save me! I can't breathe! My heart hurts!" The Fūma young master clutched his chest, struggling for breath. But the blood gushing from his wound made everyone's minds race. The wound was in the exact same place as Hidan's self-inflicted injury.
"Cough… cough… This ritual is always so troublesome and painful. Can't we simplify it?"
Hidan, who should have been dead, knelt, wiping blood from his mouth. He calmly pulled out the spear from his chest. The wound rapidly closed.
A chilling wave of dread washed over everyone.
"Young Master!"
Fūma Long's cry made everyone tense. They saw the Fūma young master, eyes wide open, dead. A gaping wound had appeared on his chest, blood staining his clothes.
Everyone finally understood Kai's earlier words. It wasn't suicide; it was a death curse! The Jashin Cult was far more dangerous than they'd imagined.
"Haha, your terror is delightful," Hidan chuckled, pushing through the crowd, his gaze settling on Kai. "You're here to eliminate me, hired by the Daimyo."
"Having witnessed my power, I advise you to flee before I kill everyone here. Otherwise, you'll become a sacrifice to the god."
Everyone's nerves tightened. Konan said urgently, "Kakuzu-sama, we know you're not ordinary."
"We were reckless, misjudging the situation and ignoring your advice. If you help, we'll assist, and we won't ask for payment."
Kuraki and the others felt a pang of regret. They'd come all this way for the fifty million ryō bounty, only to risk their lives and gain nothing. They wished they'd never come.
"Sorry, I'm not here for the fifty million," Kai said playfully, looking at Hidan.
"Want to be my subordinate?"
His words hung in the air like a hypnotic spell. Both Akatsuki and the Jashin Cult members were stunned. They'd just witnessed Hidan's power, and now Kai was recruiting him?
"Hmph, Hidan is our saint. He won't listen to you," the elder said coldly. "If you're trying to buy time, I'm sorry, but this barrier is our strongest defense. Even if we kill everyone here, you can't break it."
His laughter echoed. The earlier attack had proven his words.
Konan and the others looked at Kai, who smiled warmly, before their pupils constricted.
"You mean, like this?"
Kai clenched his fist, lightning crackling. Without hesitation, he struck out.
"Sage Art: Heavy Thunder Righteous Axe!"
Purple lightning surged forth, a roar like a dragon's cry tearing through the air. The seemingly indestructible blood-red barrier dented slightly under the impact, then shattered.
A crack appeared, spreading like a spiderweb, until the entire barrier crumbled before their eyes.
Silence descended.
Kakuzu said coldly, "Boss, next time, tell me beforehand if you have such convenient methods."
"You didn't need to go to all that trouble."
His words snapped everyone out of their stupor. Black veins erupted from the ground, wrapping around the necks of the ten barrier-makers. Before they could react, the veins tightened. Blood sprayed, bones crunched, and their necks snapped.
Terror gripped everyone. Ten chūnin had been silently assassinated.
"Kakuzu? The legendary level nine bounty hunter from the black market?" Fūma Long gasped. "Remember our clan head? That's how he died." The Fūma clan head had thought the mission was safe because Kakuzu was involved. Now, Kakuzu stood before them, and their clan head was dead.
"I killed him," Kai smiled warmly.
Fūma Long wanted to slap himself. He'd just witnessed Kai effortlessly destroy a barrier that they couldn't break. They wouldn't stand a chance.
"Don't worry, I killed your clan head, but I won't kill you. He tried to kill me; it was self-defense. You didn't attack me, so I have no reason to kill you," Kai patted Fūma Long's shoulder.
Fūma Long's scalp tingled. Ignoring the dead Fūma young master, he forced a smile.
"Sir, well said, and well done. An eye for an eye. Justice is served."
