Naruto: My Bedroom Connects to Rin Nohara 14 Years Ago

Chapter 16: First Mission Reward

The next day, under the Torrii Bridge, in a corner of Konoha.

"By the way, is this our future gathering point?" Glancing around the familiar yet unfamiliar surroundings, Ishikawa leaned lazily on the railing and asked casually.

After the cross-time-space connection ended last night, he had buried himself in the study materials left by Rin—without food or sleep—until the two dragged him out and brought him here in the morning.

And this place was, of course, the iconic location of Class 7 from his memories! The red Torrii Bridge had appeared more than once.

"Brother, this is the location Kakashi-sensei's shadow clone mentioned yesterday. We came to confirm it last night—it's definitely here!"

"The teacher also said he's bringing us here to get familiar with the mission process. From now on, we'll gather here every day. He'll either give us our task or let us know if we have a day off."

The two younger brothers leaned on the railing—one on each side—explaining the situation.

"Is that so? What a pity the teacher is always late. Who knows what time he'll show up today..." Ishikawa yawned as he leaned back against the railing, causing both younger brothers to glance sideways at him.

"Brother, did you stay up all night training? You look exhausted."

"Yeah... this is a rare opportunity. Of course, I have to train hard and master ninjutsu as quickly as possible." Ishikawa nodded as he spoke, intentionally applying a little pressure on them.

Sweat more in peacetime, bleed less in war.

In this ninja world ruled by the strong, they were nothing more than extras. If they didn't work harder, they might not even survive long enough to reach the Chunin Exams.

"Brother, can you teach us how to climb trees before the teacher arrives? Yesterday during ninjutsu training, he said that if we learn how to climb trees, it'll help us master that ninjutsu faster!" The two glanced at each other, and Taro took the initiative to ask.

Brother Ishikawa had worked so hard—how could they afford to slack off and bring him shame?

"Sure, I promised you anyway." Ishikawa nodded, agreeing readily, though he also gained a new understanding of Kakashi's laziness.

This was originally Kakashi's responsibility... yet he passed the job to him.

"Tree climbing is essentially about evenly distributing chakra to the soles of your feet so you can attach to trees or other objects. To put it simply..." Though Ishikawa felt powerless to complain internally, he kept a straight face and carefully explained the chakra control technique required for tree climbing.

Thanks to his own training experience and Rin's detailed notes, his explanation was so clear and insightful that the two younger brothers listened with wide eyes full of admiration.

'Tsk... If only a pretty girl looked at me like that...' Ishikawa sighed inwardly, suddenly feeling bored, and waved the two of them off to go practice.

"Come on, Jiro!"

"Right! I won't let Brother Ishikawa down."

With two loud shouts, the younger brothers formed seals, gathered chakra, and ran toward a nearby tree trunk.

"Well! At least I'm not completely useless. I'm not a distraction to the team, and I'm staying focused during this stage." Watching the two slam into the tree trunk again and again, Ishikawa smiled faintly, then turned toward the gently flowing river.

Though it was just a small river, it was more than enough to practice water walking.

"It's time to pull myself together and start water walking." After patting his cheeks to wake himself up, Ishikawa formed seals and concentrated chakra on the soles of his feet.

The next moment, he leaped off the small bridge. Under the force of the jump, he managed to stay on the river's surface for only half a second before falling in with a loud splash.

"Good thing I chose the riverside… otherwise, that would've been really embarrassing."

Looking at the water that now reached his calves, Ishikawa smiled bitterly and muttered to himself. Then, gathering chakra again, he stepped back onto the river.

"Bang..."

"Plop..."

Soon, the sound of tree trunks hitting the ground and splashes in the river echoed one after another—the training scene was in full swing.

"Oh my, you three are working so hard! This makes me, as a teacher, feel ashamed!!"

More than an hour later, as the three were still training, sweat dripping from their foreheads, Kakashi's voice echoed leisurely from the top of the Torii, waking everyone up.

"Teacher Kakashi, you're finally here!"

"What's the mission today, Kakashi-sensei?"

The two younger brothers immediately turned around and shouted. Although Ishikawa said nothing, he leaped onto the bridge, waiting silently for instructions.

"Well, there's no mission today. I came here to tell you that you're free to practice ninjutsu—but I didn't expect you to be so self-aware and already hard at work." Kakashi scratched his head, looking relieved. Regardless of talent, no teacher would dislike a disciple who trained diligently.

"Ah? No mission today?" Upon hearing Kakashi's answer, the two younger brothers—full of anticipation—looked disappointed at first.

But soon, a thought struck them, and their eyes lit up again. No mission... doesn't that mean they have the whole day to train freely?

"That's right. Although I'm glad to see you working so hard, I should remind you—try not to overdo physical training before I arrive. If there's a sudden mission outside the village, it could affect your safety."

Kakashi paused, then added, "Of course, for now, you're free to train as you like. At least for the next two months, you shouldn't receive any dangerous missions outside the village."

"Understood, Teacher Kakashi." The three responded in unison, including Ishikawa.

It was clearly advice for their own good, and none of them was ungrateful.

"This is your reward for yesterday's mission—one for each of you." Kakashi nodded, pulled out three bills from his ninja pouch, and handed them over.

The three were overjoyed at the sight. After all, the living allowance stopped after graduation, and now that they were officially ninjas, mission rewards had become their only source of income.

How could they not be thrilled? In the world of cultivation, money was king. With money, the gap between ordinary people and geniuses could truly be narrowed...

"Five hundred Ryo? That much?!" Taro gasped as he looked at the face value on the bill.

He had heard that ninja work paid well, but he hadn't expected it to be this lucrative.

"If we can do ten D-rank missions a month, that's five thousand taels! I'm gonna be rich, I'm gonna be rich..." Jiro cried out, eyes gleaming with greed, wearing the expression of a classic money-grubber.

"You two are hopeless. You think too much." Ishikawa rolled his eyes, sneering at their beautiful delusions.

Ten D-rank missions a month? Do you even know what that means?

If a team completes eight D-ranked missions, they're eligible to register for the Chunin Exams. Though that's just a guideline, it still says a lot about mission frequency in the first year after graduation.

And since such a rule exists, there must be deeper reasons behind it. Not every team is the protagonist group, nor does every team get priority assignments!

That rule clearly exists for minor teams like them. After all, the number of low-level missions is limited, so how are they supposed to split the pie among the hundreds of Genin teams in Konoha?

Chances are, they'll only get one or two missions a month. And that's being optimistic…

Unless they show outstanding talent, stand out from the crowd, and catch the attention of the Third Hokage.

Otherwise, not even Kakashi would be able to get them more work. At best, maybe just a few more missions than the average team—but still, something is better than nothing...
