Chapter 15: Earth-Style Wall and Thunderclap Arrow
"Ah? You're too lazy, Teacher Kakashi." Ishikawa was embarrassed when he heard that and complained loudly.
How could he possibly master it in one go when he didn't even have the Uchiha's Sharingan?
But thinking of Nohara Rin from beyond time and space, Ishikawa calmed down and nodded with gritted teeth. "I'll give it a try! But I need one offensive ninjutsu and one defensive ninjutsu."
Hearing this, Kakashi paused for a moment. He had originally been worried that Ishikawa would exhaust his chakra and fail to make meaningful progress.
He even considered giving him a warning. But he hadn't expected the boy to agree so readily!
You had to understand—even those born with dual-attribute chakra usually chose to specialize in one nature at the Genin stage, just to conserve energy and avoid wasting chakra.
"You think having dual-attribute chakra makes you a genius? Fine. I agree—but I hope you won't regret it." Kakashi gave Ishikawa a long, meaningful look and spoke coldly.
Genius? Maybe letting Ishikawa experience the cruelty of reality early on would prevent some unnecessary accidents in the future.
"Watch closely. This is the defensive ninjutsu—Earth Release: Earth-style Wall." Without giving Ishikawa a chance to respond, Kakashi stepped back, creating distance before swiftly forming hand seals.
'B-rank Earth Release: Earth-style Wall? Damn, he's making things harder on purpose!
But… I like it.' Random thoughts flashed through Ishikawa's mind, but his eyes remained locked on Kakashi's hands, not daring to blink.
'Tiger-->Hare-->Boar.' Under Ishikawa's intense focus, Kakashi completed the three hand seals with practiced ease, then slammed his palms onto the ground.
"Earth Release: Earth-style Wall!"
As Kakashi shouted, a sturdy earthen wall—five meters wide, 30 centimeters thick, and two meters tall—rose up instantly from the ground. At its center, a snarling, lifelike dog's head was carved into the wall, baring its teeth fiercely.
'It's here! Kakashi's Limited Edition Dog-Head Earth-style Wall!!' At first glance, Ishikawa couldn't help but mentally roast the dramatic detail of the earthen wall. But almost immediately, his face twisted in frustration.
He had no idea how to actually perform the jutsu—aside from memorizing the three hand seals, he hadn't understood a single method Kakashi had used!
"This is your attack jutsu—Lightning Release: Thunderclap Arrow." Almost before Ishikawa could recover from his shock, Kakashi flipped forward, landing atop the earth wall and forming hand seals again.
Seeing this, Ishikawa instantly focused his full attention once more, quickly locking down the three hand signs Kakashi used in a single breath.
"Lightning Release: Thunderclap Arrow!"
With a cold snort, Kakashi raised his palm, and white lightning—shaped like an arrow—burst forth with a crackling roar. The lightning shot straight downward, splitting the earth wall in half with violent force.
"Whoa! That's awesome!" Ishikawa gasped without thinking, completely stunned by this lightning-style jutsu that had only appeared in the Boruto series, used by the protagonist himself.
"The trick to Earth-style Wall is injecting Earth-nature chakra into the ground via hand seals to create a wall. Thunderclap Arrow, on the other hand, gathers lightning chakra in the palm and fires it like a javelin."
"Ishikawa, it's all up to you now." Kakashi gave him a teasing smile, offered that brief explanation, and vanished in a blur.
"Uh… that's it?" Staring at the spot where Kakashi had just stood, Ishikawa's jaw dropped, a clear look of disbelief on his face.
'Is he serious? He really just passed it on in one go?! "It's better to rely on myself than wait around for help. Let's give it a shot!'
Shaking his head to cast aside distractions, Ishikawa recalled the exact hand seal sequence Kakashi had used and slowly began forming them himself.
"Tiger-->Hare-->Boar. Earth Release: Earth-style Wall!" With a decisive slam of his hands on the ground, Ishikawa poured his chakra into the earth and shouted with determination.
In an instant, he felt his chakra uncontrollably surge from his hands, pouring into the soil.
The ground before him heaved and quaked, as if something was about to erupt from beneath.
'This sensation… could it be real? Could I actually be a hidden genius ninja too??' Unconsciously, the thought flashed through Ishikawa's mind.
And just as he was imagining this, an irregular wall of broken earth and rubble appeared in front of him. Not only was it less than a meter long, but it was also as thin as a palm, uneven in height, and shaky...
"Uh... I have no chance of being a genius." Staring at the wall of earth that could be toppled by a gust of wind, Ishikawa had a dark expression, panting and drenched in sweat.
That's right—his chakra was almost completely exhausted. Even though it was just a failed attempt, the chakra consumption was something his current reserves could barely handle.
"Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique..."
"Water Style: Water Wave..."
While Ishikawa was sitting and recovering, he heard the enthusiastic shouts of Taro and Jiro from either side. It was clear they had already entered a state of focused training.
"It's started, huh? Then I can't afford to fall behind!" A faint smile appeared on Ishikawa's face as he closed his eyes, reviewing the simple pointers Kakashi had given.
--
Night, Ishikawa's house.
As the time-space connection activated once again, Ishikawa—who had been full of anticipation—was left momentarily stunned when he entered the now-empty room.
Where was she? Where was his 'foreign teacher' Nohara Rin, whom he'd been thinking about all day??
"Hmm? This is..." Suddenly, Ishikawa's eyes lit up with joy when he saw a stack of books and an envelope that had appeared out of thin air on the table.
"Ishikawa, I'm on a mission outside the village. It might take a few days for me to return. I've left you some materials on medical ninjutsu and chakra control techniques. Study them for now."
"Leaving the village? Right... It is wartime, and there must be plenty of missions over there."
Ishikawa let out a slow breath of relief and didn't worry too much.
With the Yellow Flash, Minato Namikaze, leading them, Rin's safety wasn't a concern, at least not until she was eventually targeted in Uchiha Madara's scheme.
Time was precious, and Ishikawa didn't waste a second. Rather than learning on the spot, he packed up the materials and placed them by the door, planning to move them out half a minute before the time-space connection ended to avoid losing them when the room vanished.
"Let's give it a try! This cheat window doesn't last long—I can't afford to hesitate..." Looking at the door handle on the inner wall, Ishikawa stepped forward without a second thought and reached out.
"Crack…"
That familiar jolt surged straight to his soul. Ishikawa collapsed with a thud, his limbs twitching as static crackled around him.
The large, soft single sofa he had planned to buy still hadn't arrived; his tight budget had made sure of that.
Five minutes later, Ishikawa finally struggled to his feet, hands trembling as he forced himself to form hand seals, determined not to waste a single second.
Just as he was about to form the Earth-style Wall seal, a tingling numbness spread across his body, disrupting his chakra flow, and he switched seals mid-way.
"Lightning Release: Thunderclap Arrow..."
In a flash, as soon as he completed the hand sign, all the chakra in his body surged into his palm, erupting into irregular white arcs of lightning that crackled and flared violently.
But the lightning only lasted two seconds before his chakra was completely drained—then it vanished in an instant.
"Just as I thought... It's way easier to practice Lightning Release right now. I get twice the result with half the effort." Though his chakra was empty again and his legs felt like jelly, Ishikawa's face was filled with elation.
After that Earth-style Wall attempt, he no longer believed in any so-called innate Earth affinity.
"Then it's decided—you're first…" Looking up once more at the door handle, Ishikawa reached out his right hand with a burning, determined gaze.
