Chapter 154: CHAPTER 154 -The Golden Goose
Hyuga Mirai planned to visit the moon in four months. If he sought to enhance his ocular power, the Ōtsutsuki Clan residing there would be his best target.
Unlike their counterparts on Earth, neither the branch nor main family of the lunar Ōtsutsuki carried the Caged Bird Seal. In fact, the branch family had even pooled all their Byakugan together to create a massive Tenseigan.
Ocular power, an intangible energy tied to Yin Release chakra, could be absorbed between those who shared a bloodline. The closer the genetic relationship, the more effective the absorption.
Now that Hyuga Mirai had modified his own genes, his lineage was nearly identical to the Ōtsutsuki. From a genetic standpoint, he could even be considered an ancestor of the lunar Ōtsutsuki. Absorbing the Tenseigan's power was entirely feasible.
Currently, his body was in a state of imbalance—his physical energy was far stronger than his Byakugan's ocular power, creating a disparity. His bloodline chakra could temporarily trigger the evolution into Tenseigan, but without a genuine source of Tenseigan energy, he couldn't sustain it indefinitely.
Still, this could serve as an ace up his sleeve. Based on his calculations, he could maintain Tenseigan Chakra Mode for approximately fifteen minutes.
In that mode, no one in the shinobi world could defeat him. Even Namikaze Minato and Obito Uchiha would be forced to rely on space-time ninjutsu to escape, and Nagato's Rinnegan would stand no chance.
After all, the Six Paths of Pain were merely the most basic application of the Rinnegan. Nagato couldn't even use the Rinnegan's exclusive ocular techniques.
Without attraction and repulsion forces at his disposal, Nagato's only remaining options were summoning the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path and using Chibaku Tensei. But Hyuga Mirai already had countermeasures for both.
"One less obstacle. At this rate, once I take care of the remaining three Ōtsutsuki, this planet will be mine."
Hyuga Mirai smirked. The power he had gained after stepping into the realm of the Six Paths had significantly bolstered both his strength and confidence.
"But I need to accelerate technological advancement. First things first—get rid of outdated feudal structures. Otherwise, they'll only hinder space exploration."
With that in mind, he began devising a plan. Raising the world's overall productivity was crucial. Right now, the technological ceiling was set by his laboratory, while the floor remained with civilians still using hoes to farm. The gap was simply too jarring.
By introducing advanced technology, he could monopolize the shinobi world's wealth, diverting the attention of nobles toward material gain. Once they had amassed enough riches, he could devalue their wealth overnight, turning it into nothing more than worthless paper.
They had enjoyed centuries of power and luxury—perhaps it was time for that to end.
As he contemplated his next steps, he suddenly received a message from No. 18.
"Sir, I have important intelligence to report."
"What is it?" Hyuga Mirai asked.
"The Nine-Tails Jinchuriki of Konohagakure is expected to give birth in 106 days."
"That is indeed crucial information. No. 18, remind me again in 103 days."
After giving his instructions, he got up to find Ayaka Uzumaki. A Jinchuriki of this level was a strategic asset—one best kept under his own control.
Kushina's childbirth presented an opportunity. If nothing unexpected happened, Obito Uchiha would likely attempt to extract the Nine-Tails.
That meant Ayaka needed to master Senjutsu within three months and integrate Senjutsu chakra into her sealing techniques.
Up until now, there had been no urgency, so he hadn't pressured her. But from this point forward, Ayaka Uzumaki would have to train relentlessly—whether she liked it or not.
---
Shortage Street was home to numerous casinos, which had only grown in popularity thanks to new entertainment systems developed by the Uzumaki Trade Association.
The technology had transformed gambling, making it more sophisticated and nearly impossible for even skilled shinobi to cheat their way to victory.
With a variety of new games, the casinos attracted droves of gamblers daily. But none were as infamous as one particular patron—the legendary "Golden Goose."
Unlike ordinary gamblers who experienced both wins and losses, this individual had an unparalleled talent for losing. Their win rate was precisely zero.
Because of this, gamblers flocked to play against them, seeing it as the fastest way to make easy money.
"Thank you for your patronage! We look forward to your next visit!"
At the casino entrance, the owner personally escorted Tsunade and Shizune out, a broad smile plastered across his face. If Tsunade spat on him right now, he'd probably wipe it off with a grin.
After all, in just under three hours, she had lost a billion ryo. The casino's earnings—after taking its cut—exceeded seventy million. It was faster than outright robbery.
"You bastards! Next time, if I catch you cheating, you're dead!"
Tsunade cursed loudly, furious after losing such a large sum. She was convinced the casino and other gamblers had rigged the games.
Otherwise, how could someone with her skill possibly lose so fast?
They had to be cheating—just in a way she couldn't detect.
"Hmph! Shizune, let's go drink!"
Frustrated, Tsunade stormed off, with Shizune quickly following, holding Tonton in her arms.
She hesitated for a moment before leaning in and whispering, "Lady Tsunade… do we still have enough money for food?"
"Wasn't the food money with you the whole time?"
"You took it from me earlier, Lady Tsunade!" Shizune fumed, grabbing Tsunade's sleeve and shaking it vigorously.
"Oh… right, I did. Whoops, my bad, ahaha!"
Tsunade scratched her head sheepishly, finally recalling what had happened at the casino. She quickly coughed and waved her hand dismissively. "Anyway, let's just go eat first. I'll figure something out for the bill."
Shizune eyed her suspiciously. "Really, Lady Tsunade?"
"Of course! I'm one of the Legendary Sannin!"
Turning her head away to avoid further interrogation, Tsunade strode straight into an izakaya. Technically, they were going for food, but in reality, she just wanted a drink. And an izakaya served both.
By the time the two women and a pig found a suitable place, the sun had nearly set, marking the start of the izakaya's busiest hours.
As soon as they sat down, Tsunade immediately ordered ten bottles of sake, while Shizune, stomach growling after an afternoon of stress, finally placed an order for food.
Before long, their drinks and dishes arrived. Tsunade downed several cups of sake in quick succession, then launched into a tirade about her misfortunes at the casino. There was no way she could've lost so badly—it had to be rigged! Someone must have been cheating!
Halfway through her drinks, Tsunade's face had turned a deep shade of red. However, she had quieted down, her earlier frustration giving way to a somewhat dejected mood. Even so, she continued pouring herself cup after cup.
"Lady Tsunade, can you help me train in medical ninjutsu tomorrow?"
Shizune knew Tsunade always got moody after drinking, so she tried steering the conversation in another direction to distract her.
"Medical ninjutsu… Sure, I'll teach you a new technique tomorrow."
Tsunade had long since considered Shizune her sole disciple. Whatever Shizune wanted to learn, she would teach. The only issue was whether Tsunade would actually remember this promise once she sobered up.
Just as she was about to take another sip, a familiar voice rang out from behind her.
"Well, well… if it isn't Tsunade. Didn't expect to run into you here."
Tsunade turned around and scowled at the sight of the man standing there.
"What the hell, Jiraiya? Why are you here?"
She clicked her tongue in annoyance, clearly unenthusiastic about seeing her old teammate.
"Gathering intel, of course. I was on my way back and happened to pass through."
Without waiting for an invitation, Jiraiya plopped down at their table, picked up a skewer of grilled squid, and took a bite.
"I was just wondering where to sit when I spotted an old friend. What luck! Hey, boss! Three more orders of chicken skewers and squid skewers!"
Tsunade sipped her sake and smirked. "Good timing. I was just about to use Tonton as collateral, but you can cover the bill instead."
"Lady Tsunade!" Shizune gasped, eyes wide with shock. "That's too much!"
"It's fine, I haven't actually done it yet," Tsunade waved her off nonchalantly.
Jiraiya leaned back with a satisfied sigh after a few bites. "Man, this latest intel mission was rough. Traveled halfway across the continent and came back empty-handed."
Tsunade shot him a cold look. "Jiraiya, if you're about to drag me into something, don't bother. Just leave now."
"Relax, relax! You haven't changed a bit—still so hot-tempered."
Jiraiya quickly raised his hands in surrender, then exhaled deeply. "Alright, I won't beat around the bush. I came to ask you something important."
Tsunade arched an eyebrow. "If you're here to convince me to return, don't waste your breath."
Jiraiya's expression turned serious. "It's not about that. I need to know how much you understand about Hyuga Mirai… and if you have any idea where he learned Senjutsu. It's critical for Konoha. Please, Tsunade."
"Senjutsu?"
Tsunade frowned slightly. She had only heard about Hyuga Mirai defecting alongside Orochimaru but knew little beyond that.
"Jiraiya, are you implying that brat learned Senjutsu from me?"
Jiraiya shook his head. "Of course not. But I spoke to the Two Great Toad Sages of Mount Myoboku, and they confirmed that the Senjutsu he used on the day of his defection didn't come from Ryūchi Cave. However, they weren't sure if it came from Shikotsu Forest, so I was hoping you could provide some insight."
Tsunade snorted. "You guys are really losing your touch. Going this far just to deal with a single kid?"
"He's different," Jiraiya said gravely. "Hyuga Mirai could destroy the future of all shinobi. If we don't stop him, the ninja world is in danger."
Tsunade scoffed. "Hah! The 'future of all shinobi'…"
But as she spoke, old memories resurfaced—memories of her arguments with Hyuga Mirai back at Konoha Hospital. Even back then, he had seemed far too mature for a mere child.
That was the moment Tsunade had decided not to take him as her disciple. He had been so young, yet already thinking on a level beyond most adults.
After a long silence, she finally spoke.
"Shikotsu Forest never passed down any Senjutsu techniques. The difficulty is too high. It's not something just anyone can learn."
