Chapter 45: CHAPTER 45 - Successful Fusion

"Your existence taints the Hyuga clan."

Before Hyuga Mirai's Shadow Clone could finish delivering his melodramatic line, it was dispelled with a single strike, vanishing into a puff of smoke. Without missing a beat, Mirai formed seals to create a new Shadow Clone, which promptly resumed recording data for him.

"The gene fusion is progressing remarkably well," the clone reported as it meticulously inspected the results. "Chakra reserves have increased by 30%, cellular activity has doubled, and the Wood Release kekkei genkai remains an unknown factor. Furthermore, the Caged Bird Seal on your body has completely disappeared."

While continuing its examination, the clone reported these findings to the original, then carefully scrutinized Mirai's black eyes, now indistinguishable from those of a normal person.

The results aligned perfectly with the research: once the genetic sequence was altered and the Byakugan vanished, the Caged Bird Seal on the forehead would also disappear. Next, all that remained was to remove the imprint on the soul. If successful, Hyuga Mirai would finally attain true freedom.

However, even in his current state, Mirai no longer feared the main family activating the Caged Bird Seal. His research had confirmed that the physical aspect of the seal was the key to the main branch's control.

"Let's proceed with the fourth injection," Mirai decided, his tone calm. "During this time, I should keep producing more healing talismans. Let them think I'm devoting myself entirely to the Leaf Village."

How much chakra does a medical Chunin have, after all?

Creating ten healing talismans a day would exhaust roughly 80% of an average medical ninja's chakra reserves, leaving them unable to perform medical jutsu while treating patients. Though a prodigy among medical ninjas, Mirai was still just an eleven-year-old boy. Producing an additional five talismans each day beyond the norm earned him widespread praise for embodying the "Will of Fire."

Even Hiruzen Sarutobi, upon hearing about this, could only puff on his pipe and commend Mirai's contributions to the village.

For the next week, Mirai either stayed in his laboratory or returned home. On the rare occasion he went out, he employed special methods to make his black eyes appear as Byakugan.

After the final injection, Mirai's eyes slowly reverted to their original Byakugan form.

"This is the true Byakugan."

With a surge of chakra, Mirai activated his Byakugan without forming seals—a feat made possible by his refined chakra control and mastery over his dojutsu. Furthermore, the veins around his temples, usually so pronounced when the Byakugan was activated, appeared significantly less prominent.

As his vision extended outward, Mirai reached his limit only when he could see the outskirts of his usual training grounds.

"Almost eight kilometers," he noted.

This range exceeded the capabilities of most Hyuga Jōnin, but Mirai had achieved it. The yang chakra nurturing his eyes and surrounding meridians, combined with the integration of Hashirama Cells and the flawless genetic sequence from the main family, had significantly enhanced his Byakugan.

And he was only eleven years old. As his body continued to grow, the influence of the Hashirama Cells would further amplify his strength.

"These weights are becoming useless. If only I had access to the Hidden Stone Village's Added-Weight Rock Technique. It's unlikely Konoha possesses it, but perhaps I can inquire with Orochimaru," Mirai pondered. If he could learn that technique and combine it with sealing techniques, he wouldn't need to rely on his increasingly ineffective weights for physical training.

After integrating the Hashirama Cells, the burden of these weights had become imperceptible to him.

Mirai had also made some progress in his training of the Spirit Transformation Technique but had yet to fully grasp the essence of yin chakra. He needed more secret techniques to study for comparison. Unfortunately, Konoha had few yin-based secret arts, most being clan-specific, leaving Mirai at an impasse—even Orochimaru couldn't provide what he sought.

"The most challenging part of the Spirit Transformation Technique is the entry-level step: attaching the soul to yin chakra. This alone is enough to stop most people in their tracks," he mused as he left the laboratory and headed home.

"You're so slow! It's like you're living at Konoha Hospital now!"

At Mirai's doorstep, two girls were waiting impatiently. Kurenai Yuhi leaned against the wall, holding a box of snacks, while Kiyo Hyuga's expression clearly showed her irritation.

"The village's demand for healing talismans has been overwhelming lately. Why didn't you just visit me at the hospital?" Mirai asked as he opened the door and invited them inside. Accepting the snacks from Kurenai, he smiled. "Thanks, Kurenai. You really didn't need to bring anything."

"Hehe, it's just good manners," Kurenai replied, her gaze sweeping over every corner of Mirai's modest, tidy home. Finding nothing of interest, she sighed in mild disappointment.

After serving tea, Mirai asked, "So, what brings you two here together?"

Fixing Mirai with a glare, Kiyo retorted, "As our team leader, do you not care about the village's current situation?"

"Ahaha… Sorry, I've been swamped lately," Mirai admitted sheepishly.

"Hmph." Kiyo huffed before delivering her news. "We're being sent to the front lines. You'll likely receive the official notice tomorrow. After discussions between the clan head and the Third Hokage, thirty Hyuga clan ninjas are being dispatched."

Hyuga ninjas were typically assigned to reconnaissance units on the battlefield. Sending thirty at once suggested a dire situation, possibly the prelude to a large-scale conflict. More scouts were clearly needed to prepare for such an event.

Mirai understood the gravity of the situation. If this was the Hokage's decision, other clans in the village would also be contributing shinobi to the front lines.

"Our team will likely be reassigned and reorganized depending on the front line commander's orders," Kiyo continued. In wartime, not even her grandfather could influence the arrangements made by the battlefield commanders. While their team composition—two Byakugan users for scouting and Kurenai's genjutsu for interrogation—was ideal, Mirai's exceptional medical skills meant he might be transferred to the medical corps.

"So, another war…" Mirai sighed. "I don't know what the village's plans are, but be cautious when the time comes. Do you both have enough healing talismans?"

"Of course! Having you as our leader makes everyone envious," Kurenai chimed in with a smile. Apart from the village higher-ups, only she and Kiyo possessed specialized medical equipment crafted by Mirai. Even Kurenai's father couldn't hide his envy.

Carrying a personal medical ninja significantly increased survival rates during missions. The Hyuga main family had tried to commission similar items from Mirai, but the materials had already been purchased by Hiruzen Sarutobi for the village's use, forcing them to abandon the idea.

The three discussed battlefield precautions until nightfall, then went their separate ways.
