Naruto: Reborn as Yagura Karatachi

Chapter 202: Chapter 201: Three Ninja Blades

The smoke from the explosion created the perfect cover for an enemy to escape.

To be safe, even with an explosive tag blast that could envelop the entire body, the odds of it actually injuring this Uchiha were slim.

Mangetsu swapped his grip. With a sweep of his dual blades, the Hiramekarei, he scattered the thick smoke and cleared his vision.

"Hiramekarei!"

It was a blade technique Mangetsu had developed himself. In the past, Hiramekarei could only be used for chakra-enhanced hammer strikes.

Now, with the blood-grooved blades releasing sharp chakra beams, he unleashed a relentless assault on Uchiha Obito.

Obito phased through the water spray and slashing chakra attacks using Kamui. Aside from being caught off guard by Mangetsu's initial Water Release liquefaction, none of his subsequent strikes had landed.

Even the Water Release move that hit earlier had been shrugged off. With Senju Hashirama's cells grafted into his body, Obito's regenerative ability quickly healed minor injuries.

He reattached the chain-linked gauntlets to his arms, weapons in disguise.

Standing tall across from Mangetsu, unscathed, his blood-red Sharingan glared through the mask.

"Get out of my way."

Mangetsu smiled, goading him further.

"Uchiha, huh? Maybe I shouldn't call you a sewer rat—you're more like a scythe. Hard to hit, and even harder to kill."

His attacks moved faster than Obito could absorb and flee. The only real way to injure him was to strike faster than he could phase.

Mangetsu would have to ramp up the speed and rhythm of his attacks.

He sheathed his blade behind his back and charged forward in a low crouch, closing the gap instantly.

Obito ducked and sidestepped the horizontal slash from Hiramekarei.

Mangetsu narrowed his eyes—he dodged that one cleanly.

Obito formed hand seals and spat out a stream of fire right in front of Mangetsu.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball Jutsu!"

He'd realized it now. Unless he fought this Mist swordsman head-on and put him down, there was no way he'd escape Mangetsu's pursuit.

So he changed tactics, no longer relying solely on Kamui to avoid battle.

The massive fireball engulfed Mangetsu completely—but his liquefied body took the hit head-on. One empowered arm, reinforced by the Water Arm Technique, swatted the fire away.

From behind his back, his other hand had already swapped weapons—this time, the long blade: Nuibari.

A flick of the wrist and the needle-thin blade shot forward.

Obito heard a faint whoosh, his Sharingan catching the Nuibari flying at him from the side!

Too slow by just a beat. The needle blade pierced clean through the gaps in his chain weapon—perfectly threading through and dragging his body along with it!

His stance faltered, feet stumbling from the impact.

Mangetsu didn't waste the opening. He didn't even pause to use another blade technique—he raised his hand instantly.

"Water Gun!"

The Water Gun Technique—Mangetsu's fastest attack.

Even at close range, Obito managed to phase just in time, letting the water bullet pass through harmlessly.

The attack failed, but Mangetsu only smirked.

He's solid when attacking... and only phases when he's about to be hit.

Which means... he can't keep that phasing ability on constantly. He has to pick his moments. There's a limit.

BOOM!!

Obito's fist slammed into Mangetsu's chest with brutal force—shattering the upper half of his body!

What remained of Mangetsu collapsed to the ground, then dissolved into water, merging into the pool that had formed during the battle.

Thanks to the Hozuki Clan's Hydrification Technique, he was immune to physical attacks as well.

Submerged in the puddle, Mangetsu silently analyzed this Uchiha with his unusual jutsu.

In a ninja world where most shinobi had high attack and low defense, surviving a fatal blow was often more valuable than having one more offensive jutsu.

Mangetsu had already noticed during their earlier clash—this enemy was physically stronger than him.

And Mangetsu ranked second only to Kisame among the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist in terms of raw strength.

A Sharingan user. Definitely an Uchiha. He possessed a phasing ocular technique and an extraordinarily durable body.

But this wasn't taijutsu. Raw strength and endurance weren't enough to qualify.

Mangetsu could tell: Obito had a tough body and brute strength, but lacked refined technique.

Someone like this shouldn't be an unknown. But Mangetsu couldn't recall any Konoha Uchiha that matched what he was seeing.

He'd have to extract intel bit by bit, mid-battle.

...

Obito was also starting to piece things together. He jumped back and unleashed a stream of fire at the water-covered battlefield.

"Fire Style: Great Fireball!"

Mangetsu didn't follow, instead reforming from the puddle, standing firm as he made hand seals.

"Water Bubble Technique!"

A barrage of water bubbles flew forward, crashing into the incoming fireball.

The delicate bubbles burst on contact with the flames, each releasing a massive surge of water that smothered the fire entirely.

More powerful water bubbles followed, punching through the fire and smoke in waves.

Mangetsu's Water Release overpowered Obito's fire jutsu easily.

Obito's gaze darted through the battlefield, assessing the position and number of water bubbles.

"Fire Style: Phoenix Fire Jutsu!"

Small fireballs shot out in rapid succession, intercepting the water bubbles one by one.

Upon impact, the bubbles burst—and inside was not just water, but a thick, flammable liquid.

The small flames exploded into raging fires, igniting a wide area—and even scorching back toward Obito!

"That's not water... it's oil."

His Sharingan had spotted it. When the bubbles burst, the liquid inside was sticky and combustive—nothing like water.

...

Frustrated at being played, Obito snarled.

"Enough with the damn tricks!"

Knowing his last attack hadn't finished the job, Mangetsu dove into the flames, closing the distance yet again.

In each hand, he gripped one half of the dual-blade Hiramekarei, slashing fiercely in close combat.

Even with his body greatly enhanced by Hashirama's cells, even with the Sharingan tracking Mangetsu's every move, Obito was still being overwhelmed in taijutsu.

Time and again, Mangetsu's strikes landed—only for Obito to phase through at the last second.

Why... Why is he still attacking, knowing it won't land?

As the seconds ticked by, even though Obito was adapting to Mangetsu's blade techniques thanks to the Sharingan, his expression grew darker behind the mask.

He's testing my limits!

This guy doesn't have much combat experience...

Mangetsu had a clearer picture now. He deliberately slowed his attack, feigning an opening for the third time.

Obito couldn't resist. Convinced that he'd adapted to Mangetsu's moves, he lunged forward!

Gripping a wooden spear, he broke through the block from Mangetsu's blade and rammed it into his body!

Chakra surged into the spear—

Spikes of wood burst outward from inside Mangetsu's body in all directions!

"That's... the Wood Release? The legendary bloodline of the First Hokage, Senju Hashirama?"

Mangetsu had thought he was taking this fight seriously enough already. Still, he liquefied his body again to escape the wooden spikes.

"You really are dangerous."

Even Wood Release couldn't kill someone who could turn to liquid.

Obito followed up immediately. "Fire Style: Great Fireball!"

Wood fueled the flames—an inferno surged forward, burning away Mangetsu's liquefied form entirely.

FWIP!

Nuibari shot at him again. Obito leaned to the side and dodged.

Two more Mangetsus closed in.

Chakra surged from Hiramekarei as a massive chakra beast smashed down from above—missing as Obito dodged.

Another Mangetsu struck upward, exploding water and fire from his blade, forcing Obito higher into the air.

Then—he landed.

Right into nearly invisible wire threads strung across the battlefield.

A clone in the distance yanked the threads.

"Long Blade Technique!"

Obito had to phase again—if he didn't, those tightening wires would slice his feet clean off.

The real Mangetsu and two clones—each wielded a different ninja blade.

Even with his top-speed strikes, Mangetsu alone couldn't consistently force Obito to phase.

But with clones and layered attacks, the pressure was constant.

"My liquefied body can keep going all day."

Mangetsu stared straight through Obito's mask, as if he could see inside.

"You're deliberately cutting back on using your ability. Running out of steam already, Uchiha Scythe?"
