Chapter 31: Meeting
After Minato subdued the intruder, his eyes immediately caught the forehead protector of Konoha Village. He took a closer look.
"Dosuke, why are you here?" Minato asked, glancing at Dosuke, who stood frozen, not daring to move.
Before Dosuke could respond, a voice called out from the distance, "Minato!"
Minato looked up to see Jiraiya, clad in a red coat with long white hair, leaping toward him across the rooftops.
"Hahaha, Minato, I knew you'd be here! That Gama guy is pretty reliable," Jiraiya said as he reached Minato.
Looking at his disciple, Jiraiya felt a surge of joy from the depths of his heart.
"Teacher Jiraiya, Dosuke, why are you both here?" Minato asked in surprise, releasing Dosuke from his hold.
"Well, let's head inside to talk. Dosuke, are you hurt?" Jiraiya asked, pointing at Dosuke's neck.
Though Minato had stopped his attack upon recognizing Konoha's forehead protector, his sharp kunai had lightly scratched Dosuke's neck.
"I'm fine," Dosuke replied, his hands glowing with the green light of the Mystical Palm Technique as he covered the wound. The bleeding stopped, and the injury began to heal.
Such a minor surface wound didn't require advanced treatment.
The brief clash between Minato and Dosuke had drawn the attention of the people in the garden below. A group of men dressed in samurai armor gathered beneath Minato's house.
One of them, dressed in a kimono, called up to Minato on the roof. "Mr. Minato, are you alright? We failed to detect the intruder, and it startled you."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Nagaike. It was just my teacher and a friend arriving. We've caused you some trouble. Also, our roof is damaged, so it may need repairs," Minato said with an apologetic smile.
"No trouble at all. I'll arrange a new room for you right away, Mr. Minato," the kimono-clad man replied. He dismissed the samurai in front of him and signaled an elderly man who appeared to be a servant, giving him some instructions.
The elderly man waited for them to descend from the roof and said, "Master Minato, please follow me. If you have any belongings, I'll arrange for someone to bring them to you."
"Thank you, Steward Kitamura," Minato said, cupping his hands in gratitude.
He then called into the house, "Obito, Kakashi, Rin, everything's fine. Pack your things, we're changing rooms."
Inside, the three who had formed a defensive formation lowered their kunai.
"The crisis is over. Rin, look after Fuu. Obito, pack our personal belongings," Kakashi said, sliding the ninja sword onto his back.
"Kakashi, are you ordering me around? Why should I listen to you?" Obito said, glaring at Kakashi with slight irritation.
"I'm the highest-ranking ninja in the team besides our teacher, and I have three more years of mission experience than you. Is that reason enough?" Kakashi replied, looking steadily at Obito.
"Obito, I'll help you pack," Rin said softly, trying to ease the tension between the two.
"Hey, Rin, don't worry about it. These bags we brought? I can handle them no problem. Watch me!" Obito said, his whole body tingling at Rin's words.
Packing was nothing, if Rin asked, he'd rebuild the whole house without complaint.
After a burst of activity, Obito finished packing, and the three completed their preparations.
Kakashi stepped out first, followed by Rin, who carried a three-year-old child.
"Whoops!"
Obito, the last to leave, was burdened by too many bags. He bumped into the doorframe, lost his balance, and fell out.
The items he'd just packed spilled everywhere from the bag.
"Ow, that hurt!" Obito groaned, clutching his waist as he slowly got up.
"Dosuke, long time no see. Still the same as ever!" Dosuke said with a smile, stepping out from behind Minato to help Obito up.
"Okamoto Dosuke? What are you doing here?" Obito pulled down his goggles and rubbed his eyes, confirming it was indeed Dosuke.
Kakashi and Rin also turned to Dosuke with surprised expressions.
"Dosuke, are you here to support us?" Rin asked, her tone tinged with delight.
Dosuke glanced at Jiraiya, who nodded.
"Yes, I'm here to support," Dosuke confirmed.
Seeing everyone gathered, Steward Kitamura called out, "Master Minato and everyone, please follow me."
"Because of the earlier fight, Mr. Nagaike has arranged a new residence for us. Let's follow Steward Kitamura," Minato said to the group.
Soon, they arrived at the new room.
"Master Minato, if you need anything, feel free to call me or any of the other servants. I'll take my leave now," Steward Kitamura said after settling everyone in, then departed.
The group sat around a table in the room. Rin placed the sleeping Fuu nearby, covering her with a quilt.
Minato spoke first. "Teacher, from what you said earlier, did you and Dosuke come here specifically to find me?"
"It's because of this kid," Jiraiya said, giving Dosuke's head a hearty pat.
"He wants to learn the Flying Thunder God Technique, so I brought him to you. I hope you can guide him in your spare time."
"Brother Minato, please teach me!" Dosuke said earnestly, bowing deeply to Minato.
"Since you're eager to learn, I'll teach you everything I can. Don't worry! You can temporarily join our team for now," Minato replied.
As a forbidden ninjutsu, the Flying Thunder God Technique was rarely taught to others. The fact that Jiraiya, his teacher, had personally brought Dosuke, and that the Third Hokage had likely approved, meant Dosuke had permission to learn.
Seeing his disciple's willingness, Jiraiya smiled faintly. The task Tsunade had given him was complete. Whether Dosuke succeeded in learning was no longer his concern.
"Minato, I'm leaving this kid in your hands for now," Jiraiya said, giving Dosuke's head another pat. "If you don't understand something, ask your Brother Minato, got it?"
"Got it, Jiraiya-sama. Thank you, Minato-san," Dosuke said, looking up at both of them.
After discussing Dosuke, Jiraiya turned to Minato. "Minato, haven't you finished your mission yet? I recall you started it a week ago."
"Teacher, your timing is perfect. I was about to request backup from the village," Minato replied.
"What's the situation? Are you facing a challenge with this mission?" Jiraiya asked, sensing concern when Minato mentioned needing support.
