Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Elementalization – Light Transformation Jutsu?

Finding the Lost Little Tora

Maybe to get Naruto to take the fight seriously, Sasuke went all out and treated both of them to barbecue—way more generous than Kakashi ever was!

They ate from six to eight, a full two-hour feast, racking up a bill of six thousand ryo.

That was about the same as all the money Naruto had!

But Sasuke paid without even blinking.

That kind of rich-boy behavior definitely made Naruto a little jealous.

After eating, the three of them headed back to the training ground.

Sakura acted as the referee while Naruto and Sasuke got ready to fight.

"You go first."

After all, he just got treated to dinner.

Since Sasuke paid for that big meal, Naruto figured he'd go easy on him and spar for a bit.

Sasuke also knew there was a gap between their strength, so he didn't hold back and made the first move.

He quickly dashed into position and threw two shuriken to test the waters.

The shuriken flew through the air in a clean arc, heading straight for Naruto!

But Naruto didn't even try to dodge. He let the shuriken pass right through his body!

The sight left both Sasuke and Sakura completely shocked.

Sakura even shouted his name in panic.

"Naruto!"

"Huh? What?"

Naruto turned to look at Sakura with a confused face, showing no signs of being hurt at all.

"You... you're not hurt?"

Both Sakura and Sasuke looked stunned and unsure.

"Elementalization."

Naruto held up his hand, turning it into glowing golden light as he explained, "You could call it Light Transformation Jutsu. In this state, I'm completely immune to physical attacks."

"Phew!"

Sakura and Sasuke both let out a breath of relief, though they were clearly surprised by what he just showed.

"That's such an awesome jutsu... If physical attacks don't work on you, then doesn't that mean no one can hurt you?" Sakura said, clearly impressed.

Naruto just smiled and didn't answer.

Even if they were teammates, he wasn't about to casually reveal his weaknesses.

Sasuke stared at Naruto for a moment, then suddenly closed the distance between them and quickly formed hand signs.

If physical attacks didn't work… then what about fire?

"Fire Release: Fireball Jutsu!"

A fairly large fireball shot out from Sasuke's mouth and rushed toward Naruto!

But Naruto still didn't dodge.

He took the hit from the Fireball Jutsu head-on—and stood there completely fine, not a single burn on him.

"How can fire burn light?" Naruto looked at Sasuke with a teasing smile.

Physical attacks didn't work. Fire Release didn't work.

Sasuke suddenly felt powerless.

What's the point of fighting like this?

He dropped his stance and turned around without a word.

Until he found a way to counter Naruto, he wasn't going to challenge him again.

Sakura wanted to catch up, but Sasuke pushed her away again.

Naruto shook his head at clingy Sakura and turned to leave.

Being a simp never ends well.

...

In the days that followed, Team 7 kept doing missions together.

From pulling weeds, picking up trash, finding lost people, picking corn, delivering love letters... all sorts of odd jobs, until one day they had to help the Fire Daimyo's wife, Lady Shizumi, find her missing kitten, Tiger!

Naruto remembered—after this mission, Tazuna from the Land of Waves would come to Konoha to post a mission.

If Naruto hadn't gone to beg Hiruzen for better missions, they might not have been assigned that one at all.

"Here, one for each of you."

Kakashi handed Naruto and the others a communicator headset. "This mission might be a bit tough. We may have to search all over Konoha. With this, we can quickly share information."

Naruto put the earpiece in his left ear. As he listened to the others' voices coming through, he couldn't help but think about the tech in this world.

There were TVs, radios, cameras, even Orochimaru had developed cloning tech... but they still used carriages for travel and mostly relied on messengers or summoning animals to send messages.

If phones were more common, maybe Jiraiya wouldn't have had to die.

"Alright, one street per person. Go look for the kitten, Tiger!"

"Yes!!"

All three shouted in agreement, then each headed down a different street.

Tiger was a brown cat with a bow—easy to recognize. But even so, searching for a single cat in the whole village wasn't easy.

They searched all morning, covering nearly every street in Konoha and checking hundreds of cats—but no luck.

At noon,

while they were resting and eating lunch, Sakura couldn't help but complain: "Kakashi-sensei, why couldn't that cart yesterday have run into Tiger instead?"

Kakashi: "..."

"This afternoon we'll check the forest," Kakashi changed the subject. "It seems the cat isn't in the village."

"Looks like that's our only choice~"

Sakura looked defeated, clearly not in the mood for anything.

"If only we could talk to animals. Maybe they've seen the cat," Naruto said casually while glancing at Kakashi.

Kakashi noticed the look.

He knew Naruto was hinting at him.

But... how did Naruto know he could talk to animals?

Maybe it was just his imagination, but Kakashi felt like he had no secrets around Naruto.

"But how can people talk to animals? Animals can't speak human language. And if one could, that would be terrifying," Sakura joked, thinking Naruto was just messing around.

"Maybe normal animals can't speak, but it's not weird for summoned animals to talk," Naruto said.

"Summoned animals?"

Sakura and Sasuke only knew about them through Kiba and his dog, Akamaru.

And that dog didn't talk.

"Well, fine. Looks like I've got no choice. I'll get you some help."

Kakashi scratched his head, acting a little helpless.

Until now, he had never stepped in to help with any of their missions.

Partly to give them more experience and help them grow.

And partly because the missions were so simple, he couldn't be bothered.

But this cat hunt was actually a bit of a hassle.

If they didn't finish it today, it would delay Team 7's mission schedule.

Kakashi had originally planned for Team 7 to finish one D-rank mission each day, and then start taking C-rank missions on the eleventh day.

To make sure the plan went smoothly, Kakashi decided to help Naruto out.

"Summoning Jutsu!!"

Poof!

A puff of smoke exploded and faded away.

A small, funny-looking pug appeared out of nowhere.

"Summoning Jutsu?"

"A dog?"

Sasuke and Sakura had completely different reactions, but both of them stared at Pakkun in surprise.

Then suddenly, Pakkun raised his paw and said to Kakashi, "Yo, Kakashi, long time no see!"

"The dog… talked?!"
