Naruto (SI) Starting With Glint Glint Fruit

Chapter 20: Chapter 20: First Mission – Friendship

In the end, Kakashi still didn't take off his mask in front of them. Instead, he turned to the side and slurped up the whole bowl of noodles in one go while they were busy eating.

No one knew if eating that fast burned his mouth.

"Hey, what do you guys think Kakashi-sensei really looks like under that mask? Why doesn't he ever let us see his face?"

The next day, while Team 7 was waiting to meet up, Sakura suddenly asked curiously.

"No idea. Maybe he has uneven eyes and sausage lips," Naruto said with a grin, clearly messing around.

Sakura and Sasuke imagined a Kakashi like that and couldn't help but laugh a little.

"What if we try to take off Kakashi-sensei's mask and see what he actually looks like?" Sakura suggested.

"Not interested."

"Boring."

Naruto and Sasuke both shot down her idea right away, leaving Sakura a little annoyed.

Just then, Kakashi showed up at the training ground.

"Yo, morning everyone!"

Seeing Kakashi late again, Sakura couldn't help but say, "Kakashi-sensei, why are you always the last to arrive? Did a black cat block your way again?"

"Ah… This time it was a grey cat~"

"..."

The three of them stared at Kakashi silently.

"Ahem."

Kakashi cleared his throat. "Anyway, back to the main point. Today, Team 7 will carry out our first mission together, so stay sharp!"

"Alright then, let's move out!"

...

Half an hour later, Team 7 accepted their first D-rank mission from the Hokage building—babysitting for the Tanaka family for a day!

"Do missions like this really need ninja?"

At the Tanaka home,

Naruto and Sasuke stood on the roof beam, watching as Sakura played happily on the lawn with a 3- or 4-year-old kid.

"The village assigns us a bunch of missions every day, some tough, some easy,"

Kakashi stood next to them and said, "Missions are ranked from D, C, B, A, to S."

"As new Genin, you have to finish at least ten D-rank missions before you can take on harder ones."

"Doing ten missions like this sounds like a pain." Naruto couldn't help but complain.

"By the way, how much do we get paid? How much do we earn from this mission?"

"Hmm... five hundred ryo."

"..."

"If we split five hundred four ways, that's 125 each. A bowl of ramen costs four hundred, Kakashi."

Naruto rolled his eyes. He was speechless.

Worked all day and couldn't even afford a single bowl of ramen!

He really didn't feel like eating instant noodles today!

"Ah, sorry. I'll talk to Hokage-sama tomorrow and try to get us some better-paying missions."

Kakashi apologized, as if he had just remembered Naruto's money issues.

Naruto didn't say anything. He just sighed.

Looks like he'd have to go freeload at Konohamaru's house again today.

Even though completing AI-chan's mission yesterday got him five thousand ryo, that was only enough for maybe three or four days of meals.

He still needed to save.

'AI-chan, got any new missions?'

[Ding!]

[Yes, Master!]

[Beginner Mission: Complete your first D-rank ninja mission perfectly!]

[Mission Reward: Maxed Chakra Control! 500 ryo!]

Five hundred ryo—not much, but better than nothing. At least it was more generous than that old man Hiruzen.

As for maxed chakra control...

This ability actually solved his problem of not knowing how to swim.

Naruto didn't fear water because his Glint-Glint Fruit was weak against it—he just didn't know how to swim!

He had already tested it the night he ate the fruit, just to see if his powers would be affected by this world's water.

Turns out, they weren't.

As for whether ocean water could counter the Glint-Glint Fruit, he wasn't sure. After all, there was no seawater in Konoha.

Unless you count clean water with a bit of salt in it as seawater.

"Sakura!"

"What is it, Naruto?"

"Be careful!"

Sakura didn't understand why Naruto was suddenly worried about her, but her heart still felt warm.

"Got it, Naruto!"

She smiled brightly.

She thought Naruto was becoming more and more likeable, not annoying at all anymore.

But if she knew that Naruto said "be careful" just to protect the Tanaka family's kid, she'd probably take back everything she just thought about him.

Kakashi, watching from the side, felt genuinely pleased.

Team 7 was really starting to come together~

Soon, it was evening.

Mr. Tanaka, the client from the Tanaka family, came back from his trip. After returning the kid to him, their mission was complete.

"We'll get the reward tomorrow after reporting the mission to Hokage-sama, so you'll have to wait a bit, Naruto," Kakashi said.

Usually, rookie teams like them would report their previous mission when picking up a new one the next morning.

This was to save time, so they wouldn't have to keep going back and forth to the Hokage's office.

Of course, Kakashi also had his own little trick in mind.

The fewer visits to the Hokage's office, the lighter the Third Hokage's workload would be.

Naruto waved it off, saying it didn't matter.

Since Kakashi had treated them to lunch earlier, Naruto wasn't going to sweat something like this.

Besides… he was going to Konohamaru's house for a feast tonight. A little reward money didn't mean much to him anymore.

Seeing Naruto didn't mind, Kakashi dismissed the team and told them to meet at 7 a.m. the next day.

"Sasuke-kun, let's go home together!" Sakura said happily, jumping in front of him.

"No."

Sasuke walked right past her and went up to Naruto. "Naruto, do you have a minute?"

"?"

"?"

'Why does it feel like Naruto is my love rival now?'

'Why does it feel like I'm Sakura's rival in love now?'

Naruto and Sakura looked at each other, a question mark practically floating over both of their heads.

"What is it?" Naruto asked Sasuke.

"I want to spar with you," Sasuke said.

"Spar…"

Naruto thought for a second, then gave a condition. "If you treat me to dinner, I'll agree."

"Fine."

Sasuke was different from Naruto. Even though he hadn't inherited the full Uchiha fortune, he wasn't short on money.

At least he didn't have to worry about food like Naruto did.

Sakura saw Sasuke and Naruto about to leave and quickly ran up to them. "Sasuke, Naruto… can I come too?"

Sasuke looked at her. Seeing how nervous she was, he nodded. "Come with us."

"That's great! Thank you, Sasuke-kun!"

Sakura got so excited she hugged Sasuke, but he looked super annoyed.

"Let go of me, you!"

Naruto watched from the side and couldn't help but chuckle.

After spending the past two days together, their bond might not be deep, but they had become real friends.

Even Sakura didn't seem that annoying anymore...
