Naruto: Starting with Snatching the Mangekyō Sharingan

Chapter 166: Chapter 166: Preparing for the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan

Meanwhile, as Orochimaru and his companions delved into the Ryūchi Cave to train in Sage Mode, Uchiha Akira appeared at a hidden base outside one of Orochimaru's villages.

This base had been discovered after interrogating Orochimaru. Akira's objective was straightforward: according to Orochimaru's intel, Jūgo was located here.

The base, situated in the Land of Fields, was sparsely managed by only a handful of shinobi. Orochimaru hadn't had time to relocate its contents—or perhaps he hadn't found it necessary. To him, this base had become dispensable. His research was complete, and the materials within no longer held any value to him.

It didn't take long for Akira to find Jūgo. The boy, now just three years old, was at an age where he was only beginning to form memories.

Orochimaru had obtained Jūgo only recently, but it had been enough time for him to refine his understanding of curse seals. With Jūgo's unique abilities, Orochimaru successfully developed the Cursed Seal, granting him indirect access to Sage Techniques.

Silently, Akira brought Jūgo back to Konoha, entrusting the boy's care to the Uchiha Clan. After ensuring Jūgo was settled, Akira went straight to his laboratory to commence cloning experiments.

With Jūgo's addition, Akira finally had all the pieces necessary for his Chimera Technique. However, this was merely the first step, it was far from complete. He still lacked the Rinnegan and the revival of the Ten-Tails.

"Next, it's time to prepare for the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan," Akira thought to himself.

For him, achieving the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan was a certainty—he just needed to follow the steps methodically. However, since the eyes he intended to use weren't from a blood relative, the evolution process would require some time to stabilize.

In his laboratory, Akira retrieved the remains of four tailed beasts he had acquired from the battlefield, storing them in massive containers.

The Eight-Tails had the largest portion, almost half of its body. Next was the Four-Tails, followed by the Two-Tails with a single hind leg, and finally, the Five-Tails, represented only by a few severed tails. Additionally, parts of the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path were stored, with fragments distributed for various experiments.

The severed arm from the statue had been injected with chakra from five tailed beasts. Akira planned to use it as a fusion medium when the time came.

"As expected, the Nine-Tails must be added last," Akira muttered, staring at the arm suspended in a container. Despite absorbing chakra from five tailed beasts, it resisted the Nine-Tails' chakra—mirroring the behavior of the Demonic Statue itself. The Nine-Tails always had to be sealed last.

The arm had undergone subtle changes after absorbing the chakra, giving Akira the eerie impression that it was alive.

"It's almost as if it's pulsating with life… even though it's just an arm," Akira murmured.

After observing it for a while, Akira turned his attention to the experimental clones designed to awaken the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. These clones, created for testing purposes, had not undergone Mangekyō transplants. Even if they succeeded, their eyes wouldn't meet Akira's standards.

"The fusion progress is much slower than anticipated. Non-bloodline eyes are surprisingly incompatible," Akira noted, frowning after a thorough examination. At this rate, it would take at least a year for the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan to fully stabilize.

"Too slow…" he muttered, before moving to a clone derived from Ōtsutsuki Toneri. Unlike the Eternal Mangekyō, the Tenseigan required chakra from the Ōtsutsuki clan. Akira needed to channel his spiritual body into the clone to refine the chakra continuously.

"The progress of the Tenseigan is even slower," he concluded after his inspection. Despite daily chakra infusion, the process lagged behind his expectations.

"At this rate, it'll be impossible to complete the ritual in time for the solar eclipse in Year 56," Akira speculated, leaving the lab deep in thought.

He headed straight for the Uchiha Clan's shrine, descending into its basement to examine the ancient tablet. Activating his scarlet Mangekyō Sharingan, Akira studied its inscriptions.

"As expected, with the Mangekyō at its current strength, the tablet reveals information about the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. There are no more secrets here for me," he thought, nodding slightly.

After unlocking his Mangekyō, Akira had previously attempted to decipher the tablet but had only understood fragments due to limited ocular power. That initial revelation had provided him with the method to awaken the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan.

"Six Paths: Ten-Tails Coffin Seal… the method to awaken the Rinnegan… and Infinite Tsukuyomi," he read, a cold smirk spreading across his face.

Akira knew the tablet had been tampered with by Black Zetsu. The original text was lost, but Black Zetsu's alterations directed readers toward Infinite Tsukuyomi. For an ordinary person, such manipulation might fail—but to an Uchiha who had unlocked the Mangekyō, the path was all too tempting.

Even so, the tablet held immense value, detailing the Ten-Tails Coffin Seal and the method for Rinnegan awakening—priceless insights.

Two days later, Hiruzen Sarutobi convened a meeting of Konoha's elite jōnin. His complexion had improved after days of rest, and his injuries seemed largely healed. Seated at the head of the room, he surveyed the gathered jōnin and spoke with a steady, firm voice:

"The recent ambush on our border patrol by Kumogakure has dealt a heavy blow to Konoha. I bear undeniable responsibility for this failure. Following this meeting, I will issue a public apology to the villagers."
